Best Cabin Camping near Sargents, CO

Cabins near Sargents provide rustic to modern accommodations with varying amenities across several campgrounds. Monarch Spur RV Park & Campground offers cabin rentals with picnic tables and access to showers and toilets, while Gunnison KOA features cabins without refrigerators or air conditioning but with comfortable sleeping arrangements. Taylor Park Trading Post provides full-hookup cabins that have been "beautifully remodeled" according to visitors. Mountain Time RV Park (formerly Tall Texan) maintains five cabins on their 10-acre property near the Gunnison River. "We stayed in The Loft above the lodge, and we just loved it. It was so quiet and comfortable with the two beds, living area, kitchen, and bathroom," noted one visitor to Sapinero Village Campground.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. BV Overlook offers cabin accommodations with varying comfort levels—some guests report excellent experiences while others note issues with insulation and heating. "We were put in a cabin that had a 2-inch gap between the bottom of the door and threshold. The heater was more like a hair dryer and didn't warm the cabin," one camper wrote about their winter experience. Most cabins are pet-friendly for an additional fee, though policies vary by property. Reservations are essential during summer months when cabins book quickly, especially at popular locations like Taylor Park Trading Post where one visitor mentioned, "It was an awesome experience. Nice to have a private shower after being out on SXS all day. And nice cozy 2 bedroom cabin."

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary widely—some cabins offer full kitchens with basic cooking equipment while others provide only minimal amenities. The Gunnison KOA cabins, for example, lack refrigerators, requiring guests to bring coolers. On-site camp stores at locations like Monarch Spur RV Park & Campground sell essential items, firewood, and basic groceries. A camper noted that Monarch Spur has "a nice camp store, WiFi that works, golf cart rental, a playground, kids games, a community area." Visitors planning extended stays should consider bringing supplies from larger towns, as local options may be limited to small markets with basic provisions.

    Arrowhead Point Resort

    Great campground!

This campground is right off the road and easy to find. They had RV sites in the front of the camp and tent sites up the road. We had showers and laundry, general store and wood for sale. Our site was very nice with lots of room. We had a picnic table and a fire pit in the site. There were a few portable bathrooms that were super clean available for night time runs.

    Great views of the mountains!

    Gunnison KOA

    Beautiful Setting and Family Friendly

The Gunnison KOA is in a beautiful setting with large trees that is about 75 yards from the river. The spaces are generously sized, although the camping sites could use power outlets. They are very kid and pet friendly; and have a dog park. There is a friendly donkey who roams the grounds, so make sure your 4 legged friends are okay around bigger animals. The bathrooms are clean and functional. The same could not be said for the dishwashing station that is outdoors. It is in horrible condition, including a dripping faucet. Also, be aware that you are very close to the river and there is a mosquito and moisture problem. Even with these minor problems, this is still a great place to stay.

    Dump Run by Crooks

This campground is an absolute dump run by dishonest crooks. We stayed here in October on a night that it got below freezing and snowed. We were put in a cabin that had a 2-inch gap between the bottom of the door and threshold. The heater was more like a hair dryer and didn’t warm the cabin. It was 40 degrees in the cabin so we didn’t sleep. The floor crunched while walking on it and the platform bed was metal. When we got off the bed there was a loud bang. When we tried to get a refund from the owners she blamed us and said the problem was we didn’t understand rustic cabins. We have stayed in rustic cabins in the cold months for 10 years and never experienced this. There are many places in Buena Vista…take your business elsewhere.

    Gunnison KOA

    Favorite KOA

Within minutes from Hartman’s Rocks and one of the only KOAs that has so much grass. We rented a cabin, no refrigerator or AC, and it was perfect for a fall trip. The colors of the Aspen made the entire area golden. Cabins are slightly close together. Would definitely tent camp and enjoy the grass and fire pits next visit.

    Sapinero Village Campground

    Fantastic Location in Colorado!

My friend and I stopped here on our way to Telluride. We stayed in The Loft above the lodge (so we did not camp), and we just loved it. It was so quiet and comfortable with the two beds, living area, kitchen, and bathroom.

The views of Blue Mesa reservoir were stunning. The park is tiered, so each site has a wonderful view. There are also three cabins available (they have all been beautifully remodeled), as well as a bathhouse. We had a boat ride (there is fishing available), and I heard there is ice fishing and snowmobiling available in the winter. I highly recommend this park!

    Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch

    Great location!

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it! There is so much to do on the ranch such as swim in the pools, play games, horseback ride, etc. The bathrooms and showers were clean and nice. It’s also in a great location with proximity to black canyon of the gunnison national park, crested butte, and so many lakes. The sites all had picnic tables, fire rings, and nice landscaping. It was really enjoyable. We’re living in my camper full time right now so it was a good break from true wilderness. The only thing i would add is water fountains. but that’s it!

    BV Overlook

Nice place to stop for a few nights!

The camp staff was all very friendly. We had a nice site with very easy hookups! There are hiking/biking trails right off the road from the campsites. Each site is quite spacious and each has a picnic table and fire pit with a grill top. The view is AMAZING and the hiking trail was worth the effort to get even better views of the mountains from a higher elevation. The town of Buena Vista is quaint and has options for gas fillups and groceries. I would stay here again!

    Gunnison Lakeside Resort

    Quiet campground

This was a very well kept campground. They were always watering grass, which the kiddos loved the sprinklers. We stayed in the smallest cabin they had, but it had AC, bathroom with shower, and small kitchen. Owners were very nice. There are a lot of mobile homes here that people seem to have purchased, but it wasn’t overly crowded with them or additional campers. RV spaces were semi-close together, but you didn’t hear your neighbors very much. Recommend getting a spot on the East side so you could have an actual lake view since it is technically across the highway from the lake. Speed limit was a strict 5 mph and they enforced it! Playground was a little older, but the kiddos liked it. Their little store had everything that you may have forgotten at home.

    Stayed in cabin

It was an awesome experience. Nice to have a private shower after being out on SXS all day. And nice cozy 2 bedroom cabin. Kitchen and small couch area. A campfire area too.

Many cabins in this mountain region lack cell service but compensate with proximity to recreational areas. Winter cabin rentals may require 4WD vehicles due to seasonal road conditions.

What to do

Hiking access: Near Monarch Spur RV Park & Campground, the Colorado Trail provides direct access just a mile from the property. "Stayed here while thru hiking the colorado trail, what a wonderful time! Salida is a quick drive away and the trail is only a mile up the road," notes a hiker who visited the park.

Fishing opportunities: The Arkansas River runs through several campgrounds offering cabin accommodations. At Mountain Time RV Park & Cabins, guests can fish in the nearby Gunnison River. "This campground is nestled in a beautiful section of forest with a pond on site," reports one visitor who appreciated the natural setting.

OHV trail access: Taylor Park Trading Post serves as a hub for side-by-side vehicle enthusiasts. "Had a great experience and such a good spot for many, many SXS trails. Bathrooms and showers just a short walk from the campsite were convenient and refreshing," notes a visitor who enjoyed the extensive trail network.

What campers like

Hot springs proximity: Cabin stays at Valley View Hot Springs—Orient Land Trust include access to natural thermal pools. "Hiking to the hot springs pools and soaking with snow on the ground was a whole experience worth having," writes one visitor who appreciated the unique amenity during colder months.

Kid-friendly activities: Cutty's Resort at Hayden Creek offers numerous structured activities for children. "They had young staff that organized hands on crafts and science experiment classes for all the kids to participate in who were staying that weekend. One class was the kids making alka seltzer rockets," shares a parent who enjoyed the programming.

Mountain views: Cabin rentals throughout the region provide scenic vistas of the Collegiate Peaks and surrounding ranges. "The views are breathtaking! A short hike right in sight!" notes a visitor to BV Overlook who appreciated the immediate access to elevated viewpoints.

What you should know

Temperature variations: The high elevation means significant temperature drops after sunset. "High altitude means cool to cold nights. Gorgeous area and park!" reports one visitor to Monarch Spur RV Park, highlighting the need for warm clothing even in summer.

Pet policies: Most cabin accommodations welcome pets for additional fees. "Very pet friendly with large pets," notes a visitor, though specific restrictions may apply at individual properties.

Tips for camping with families

Indoor recreation options: For rainy days, Cutty's Resort - Hayden Creek provides multiple indoor facilities. "Indoor and outdoor pools, mini golf, volleyball, basketball, tennis, horse shoes, bingo, karaoke, too much to list!" explains a repeat visitor who appreciates the variety of activities.

Swimming access: Several properties feature pools for family enjoyment. "The pools on site were perfect for the kids. On site mini golf was a blast," notes a recent guest at Cutty's Resort who visited with another family.

Tips from RVers

Winter considerations: Cabins provide alternatives when RV camping becomes challenging in colder months. "The temps were getting below freezing at night. Nice change from the Texas heat. The morning we left it was 23 degrees so protect your water lines," advises a Taylor Park Trading Post visitor.

Cabin kitchen facilities: BV Overlook offers cabin options with varying amenities. "We came for the daily soak - stayed for the camping. The camp sites were simple but great and you have total access to all hot springs, bathrooms, showers, sauna, AND a communal outdoor kitchen," reports a visitor who appreciated the shared facilities.

Site size considerations: Cabins typically provide more privacy than camping sites. "This campground is in a great location. Its close enough to BV for a quick trip to town and set back off the highway enough to make it quiet. Most sites are on varying elevations up a hillside so we weren't looking right at our neighbors," notes a BV Overlook visitor who appreciated the layout.
