      Ouray KOA

      Heaven in the mountains

Wow is all I can say! After surviving towing the airstream up Red Mountain pass, we pulled into the KOA and couldn’t be more happy. Our site backed up to a stream that sounded wonderful with running water. Each site has a picnic table and a combo fire ring/grill. They even welcome you with three large fire logs! They now offer horseback riding right from inside the KOA. They have everything from teepees to tent, cabin and RV camping. A great restaurant on site with a well stocked store and laundry facilities. This place is really well run. The only complaint is the WiFi, which is non existent, however, they are currently working on that and should have campwide WiFi by summer.

      Ouray KOA

Best spot for tent, RV, & cabin!

The spots are spread out enough that you have privacy, there’s attendants around 24 hours of the day to help, and it’s hands down the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed. We rented a cabin (we stopped in on July 4th, sold out of tent spots) but they managed to accommodate us last minute. The staff is incredibly nice, and the price was right. Our cabin is the 2nd biggest option, it included: a queen, bunk beds, love seat, fridge, sink, and a microwave.

      Ouray KOA Holiday

      Quaint and quiet

Stayed at a small back-in site with 30 amp & electric in our camper van. The site had a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Loved that they had a store, laundry room, and firewood for sale. The store closes at 5:00 & we arrived at 5:10 but the office lady still checked us in and made sure we had firewood. The campground is well-maintained and clean.

      Very nice

Nice campground with spacious sites. Concrete pads under the picnic table and fire pits. Water access nearby. Bathrooms were super clean and the showers were nice and hot. Laundry facilities available. We stayed on D-183 and had a nice view of the mountains and the lake. Definitely one of the best state park campgrounds in Colorado.

      Meadows of San Juan Resort

      Great value, great location!

This is our second time staying here! We met the new owners today upon checking out and they were incredibly kind and you could tell how much passion they have for all the upgrades they are doing to the property. We rent a tiny cabin when we come and it’s always clean and has everything we need. I love seeing the stars at night and being able to bring our dog. Will be back next year again!

      Ouray KOA

      Perfect!

Beautiful campground in a beautiful location! Wake up to Mountain Views in the distance. Quiet area, easy access. CLEAN, private showers-I enjoyed the fact that the showers weren’t separated men/women but that they were actual bathrooms with shower, toilet, and sink. They brought firewood to us, and were so friendly. Our site was big and had a nice fire pit.

      BASECAMP 550

      Great Location and Atmosphere

We had an amazing stay at Basecamp 550. The campground’s location is perfect, with easy access to Ouray, Montrose, Telluride, and other nearby areas. The amenities were excellent, including quarter-operated hot showers and laundry, restrooms, Wi-Fi, full hookups, and a clubhouse with coffee + tea, kitchen access, and a great workspace. Our site had a beautiful view and was right next to a ranch where cows would come right up to the fence. The communal fire pit was a nice touch, and the private, fenced-in setting made us feel safe and comfortable. They also offer glamping tents and casitas on the property. Highly recommend!

    What to Do

River recreation access: At Ledges Rockhouse Campground, visitors can enjoy fishing and boating opportunities directly from the campground. "We camped in our truck camper in the day use area. Lots of flat ground and clean bathrooms. There was also a fire ring next to a picnic table covered by a pavilion," notes Taylor H.

Water activities: Ridgway State Park offers water sports on its 1,030-acre reservoir located 35 miles from Nucla. "Nice waters @ the nearby reservoir. Enjoy!" shares Stella C. The park provides swimming beaches and boat rentals during summer months.

Hiking opportunities: The region features numerous hiking trails ranging from easy walks to challenging mountain ascents. Stoner RV Resort positions campers near several trail systems. "Very well located above Dolores but below Rico to access so much of the natural Colorado landscape," explains Bill B.

Cultural experiences: Camp V provides on-site cultural activities and programs as part of their unique lodging experience. "Camp V offers several types of dwellings to choose from. Make this an unforgettable experience and explore things to do on-site," mentions Ashley F.

    What Campers Like

Natural settings: Cabin campers appreciate the natural surroundings and wildlife viewing opportunities. "Up high on a peninsula. Great views of the San Juans and Cimmaron mountain ranges. Great for a base camp," reports Christian M. about Dakota Terraces Campground.

Clean facilities: Consistent maintenance is frequently mentioned in positive reviews. "Clean bathrooms, great hiking trails, beautiful views," notes Lori A. Many cabin locations provide regularly serviced restroom facilities.

Friendly staff: Exceptional service stands out in camper reviews. "From the time we pulled into the campground, full of grass with huge trees, we felt at home. We had a warm greeting and received a welcome gift with yummy treats and fresh eggs," shares Yvette H. about Stoner RV Resort.

Riverside locations: Access to water features prominently in cabin camper experiences. "We stayed off to the right as you come in. It is more in the open, less trees. It's right on the river. There nice trout to be caught when the river is running clear," explains Melissa K. about Ledges Rockhouse.

    What You Should Know

Seasonal availability: Many cabin facilities operate only during specific months. Ouray KOA operates from May 1 to September 30. Stoner RV Resort extends their season from May through December 1, offering a longer window for fall visitors.

Reservation requirements: Advance booking is essential for cabin accommodations, especially during summer months. "We booked a spot here and were greeted kindly by the owners and residential campers who help oversee the campgrounds," notes Joseph about Riverbend RV Park & Cabins.

Cabin amenities vary: Each property offers different comfort levels and features. "Our cabin is the 2nd biggest option, it included: a queen, bunk beds, love seat, fridge, sink, and a microwave," mentions one reviewer at Ouray KOA.

Wildlife considerations: Camping near Nucla may involve wildlife encounters that require proper preparation. "The locals told us that bear come through at night and so do mountain lions. Both have been seen in the last week. They don't usually bother anything but keep your kids and dogs close," advises Melissa K.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Space between sites: Look for cabins with adequate separation from neighbors. "All of the sites are large and have plenty of space from the next site," explains Jason S. This provides families with privacy and room for children to play safely.

    Tips from RVers

Accessibility factors: Cedar Creek RV Park provides good access for RVers needing cabin alternatives. "This RV park is close to a bowling alley and several restaurants. It's great for a quick stay," shares Sarah S.
