Cole Ranch welcomes pets with remarkably accommodating policies, providing eight tent sites with water and electric hookups for visitors camping with dogs. Facilities include clean toilets and showers, with complimentary watercraft available for river recreation. The campground features a communal outdoor kitchen stocked with cooking utensils and pots, making meal preparation convenient for campers with pets. Recent visitors note that camp hosts maintain fresh sunflowers in vases and change hand towels daily in the restrooms, demonstrating attention to detail. Dogs can enjoy the riverside location with ample space to explore on leash.

Woodward Reservoir's pet-friendly campsites connect directly to the lake, allowing dog owners to keep boats or watercraft at their sites after unloading. The reservoir provides fire rings and picnic tables at each campsite with full hookup options for RVs. Dogs must remain leashed throughout the campground but can access the warm, shallow water ideal for swimming. Turlock Lake State Recreation Area Campground offers shady sites with large oak trees along the Tuolumne River, approximately 60 feet from most camping areas. Campers frequently report enjoying the river with their dogs during hot summer months when temperatures exceed 100 degrees. Both campgrounds maintain pet waste stations and enforce quiet hours to minimize barking disturbances, with veterinary services available in nearby Oakdale.

Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging

      Good Place for Kids

With a pool, petting zoo, a corral where they have a fire and s'mores followed by a movie, this is a great place to camp with the kids.

The showers are free and usually clean although on Saturday evening the campground was full and the bathrooms were dirty and out of TP.

There are tent sites, RV sites and cabins so something for everyone.

There were A LOT of stray cats on the property which kind of drove our dog crazy. But at least the campground is pet friendly.

If you plan to go into Yosemite NP, it's a long drive so plan accordingly. Our family really enjoys Rainbow Pools and Yosemite Pine's proximity to Rainbow Pools is part of why we stay here. The kids can jump and swim there and that's all they really want to do anyway so being close to that is key for us. So many of the places in the park where we used to get in the water do not allow swimming anymore.

      Merced River Resort

      Shady spot

We stayed here for 5 weeks. Quiet park with lots of shady trees, a dog park and kids play area. River access is limited though because of the steep incline. No swimming spots but good fishing areas. Full hookups were much appreciated! The restrooms did not have working showers at the time hopefully that has been fixed.

      Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes

      Yosemite Lakes RV Resort, CA

This campground is the most convenient location when visiting Yosemite National Park. It snowed while we were there and the giant trees looked beautiful. Only one out of the two bathrooms was in service. The WiFi service was non existent unless you sat in the laundry room Near the welcome center. About a mile from the campground itself there is a camp store that had anything you may have forgotten and great souvenirs. There’s a playground, but no dog park.

French Camp RV Park and Golf Course

Quiet, clean and great dog parks!

I believe a lot of the people here are full-time. It’s a super sweet RV resort. It is very well-maintained, nicely landscaped, and they have some great dog parks. I came in after hours and the person managing the campground was kind enough to open up the office and get a space for me.

      Indian Flat RV Park

      Nothing special

Stayed in this Campground for 2 days. They don't have a dog park and there's really nowhere for dogs to go the bathroom. Every time I went to go to the office there was a sign they'd be back in 15 minutes... The dump site I believe was an old camping spot with hose access. It's about 30 minutes from town if you need groceries and 30 minutes from the park depending on traffic. I personally would not stay in this park again.

Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging

      Camping friendly

Not located in the Yosemite Park (we made that mistake). 20-30min drive to Yosemite Park.

      Very cute and quiet spot.

Trails around camp grounds, petting zoo for kids.

Tent, camper/rv, and cottage camping available.

Would recommend if you don’t mind a drive to get to the park.

Hard to get to but has buses to Yosemite

The campground has nice views, but wow, what a scary drive up a curvy mountainous road to get to it. Most of the campground is clay dirt, so it's quite dusty and the RV spots are not paved. They had a pool, but it was filled with rowdy children so we didn't go in. The campground also has a pet wash we wanted to use, but it wasn't working. There is also a random petting zoo, and I felt bad for the animals because it was quite small. Their redeeming factor were the buses to Yosemite. Although it was over an hour each way, we were thankful to have them since we only had our RV.

    Guide to Waterford

Campgrounds near Waterford, California offer access to multiple reservoirs and rivers within a 30-mile radius of town. Summer temperatures frequently exceed 100°F between June and September, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Most campsites in the area sit at elevations between 200-500 feet, with limited natural shade available at many locations.

    What to do

River fishing access: Lake McSwain Recreation Area provides multiple fishing spots with relatively easy shore access. "The lake was beautiful and refreshing. Would come back again but maybe early spring," notes Brenda J., who advises visiting before summer heat arrives.

Kayaking with free equipment: At Cole Ranch, campers can borrow watercraft without additional fees. "Complimentary watercraft for the river, stocked outdoor kitchen, and hot showers with shampoo/lotion etc. The extra touches made you feel at home," reports Joyce L., who appreciates the all-inclusive amenities.

Hiking nearby trails: Blue Oaks Campground offers access to shoreline trails with valley views. "If you want to relax, this was the spot, very quiet. We looked over the valley. Great morning and evenings," shares Patricia H. about her experience at campsite A-27.

    What campers like

Proximity to water: Fleming Meadows Don Pedro Recreation Area features camping areas with lake views and swimming options. "We hung out at the cove near us and the water temp was very pleasant. Water gets muddy...I wish it was clear for safety reasons, but we totally enjoyed it," writes Jessica D. about her July visit.

Private river access: Many campers value the ability to easily reach water from their sites. "The best feature (besides the fact its only 20 min from our home) are the sites that run along the river. We hung out in the river all day located about 60ft from our campsite," explains M.G. about Turlock Lake State Recreation Area.

Dog-friendly swimming areas: Waterford area campgrounds commonly permit leashed pets with water access. "Woodward is our family go to place to camp in the summer heat... And you can bring your dogs," notes Bonnie S., highlighting the pet-friendly policies at the reservoir.

    What you should know

Seasonal camping restrictions: Some properties limit access during certain periods. "This campground is only open to Stanislas County residents," cautions Jeff D. about Woodward Reservoir during specific times.

Wildlife encounters: Deer frequently approach campsites in the area. "Deer are fearless & majestic, several 'packs' walked through our campsite all throughout Sunday night when everyone else was gone. They walked up to us to smell our campfire & our food," reports Katie K. at Lake Tulloch RV Campground and Marina.

Limited shade coverage: Many sites lack substantial tree cover. "Very shady campgrounds with big oak trees providing shade throughout the day and night," notes Russell L. about Turlock Lake, one of the few campgrounds with significant natural shade in the area.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water areas: Woodward Reservoir offers shallow swimming zones ideal for children. "Shallow and warm water great for swimming and water sports," explains Russell L., noting the reservoir's gentle entry points make it safer for young swimmers.

Designated swimming areas: Some campgrounds feature separate swim zones away from boating traffic. "The lagoon is great area for kids to play in the water and there are nearby grills to cook some burgers while watching the kids in water," Eddie N. shares about Fleming Meadows.

Playground access: Several campgrounds include play structures for children. "The kids had fun playing at the playground, jet skiing, and making sand castles at the beach," reports Elisabeth about Lake Tulloch, highlighting multiple activity options for families.

    Tips from RVers

Waterfront RV sites: T-Island at Woodward Reservoir offers premium waterfront positioning. "On the T-Island sites you're right on the water. Which is where we go. Both our kids' families have kayaks so that makes getting on the water great," shares Craig & Linda L., who appreciate the direct water access.

Level site selection: Merced River Resort provides full hookups with varying site quality. "We stayed here for 5 weeks. Quiet park with lots of shady trees, a dog park and kids play area. Full hookups were much appreciated!" notes Mr. and Mrs. M., who found the extended stay comfortable.

Dog-friendly campgrounds near Waterford: Most area RV parks welcome pets but have specific areas for exercise. "Showers available but not ADA compliant so my husband couldn't use it. Large dog park but a person in there had an aggressive dog so we couldn't use it," cautions Jeanne A. about her stay at Merced River Resort.
