Best RV Parks & Resorts near Skyforest, CA

Several RV parks around Skyforest provide full-hookup options with varying amenities. Skypark Camp RV Resort features concrete pads with 30/50-amp electrical, water, and sewer hookups, while Big Bear Shores RV Resort accommodates larger vehicles with full-hookup sites. "Campground is small but the staff was friendly," noted one visitor about Holloway's Marina & RV Park, which offers big-rig access with 50-amp service and waterfront positioning. Rancho Jurupa RV Park provides both paved pull-through sites and more rustic options with partial hookups, featuring spacious concrete pads in the Cottonwood section and dirt sites in the Lakeview area.

Seasonal considerations affect RV camping in this mountain region, with some parks closing during winter months while lower elevation options remain open year-round. Road access varies significantly between locations, with steep grades and tight turns on mountain routes requiring careful navigation for larger motorhomes. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, dump stations are available at most parks, though limited at some locations. Cell service fluctuates throughout the area, with stronger signals near Redlands and Riverside than in mountain communities. Leashed pets are generally permitted at RV parks, though rules vary regarding breed restrictions and designated pet areas. Several parks offer on-site laundry facilities and propane services, particularly at the more developed resorts like Golden Village Palms in Hemet.

    Bonelli Bluffs

    Hidden Gem

I loved this place, this hidden gem is located in the in the middle of the city, with the feel of the outdoor. Lots of trees, biking and hiking trails, fishing area, beautiful views, very peaceful, family friendly, pet friendly, the C9 RV spot was very spacious, I also liked the A & B area. Not every site has a fire pit. Definitely coming back again.

Mountain Lakes Resort - Membership Campground

    Great family friendly place

My wife and I have been coming up here for years. We used to use her parents fifth wheel or use a cabin but recently purchased our own travel trailer. Now we come up here with our kids and I can’t say enough about how family friendly it is.

    Pineknot

Pineknot Campground, Big Bear Lake, Ca

A bit challenging to locate via Google Maps... Just go up (south) Summit Blvd, when you get to the parking lot of the ski resort, veer towards the left, and just past a concrete wall, you'll see the little Pineknot Campground sign attached to an aluminium pole. The campground is very cozy, countless tall pine trees, clean bathrooms, clean sites, water from taps, no hookups, and not for big rigs. The hosts are friendly, but strict! No generators from 8 pm to 8 am, a $3000 fine if your campfire is left unattended, and no rowdy obnoxious behavior is tolerated! We appreciated the rules, and thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful, quiet, deep in the woods getaway!!

    Catalina Spa and RV Resort

Nice place, good value for money

Great for long term RV camping with hookups. They have nice hot springs pools, decent cell signal, and reasonable prices for full hookups. Camp sites are on the small side so neighbors are close, but at least they put plants in between to give you a little privacy.

    Barstow-Calico KOA

    Beautiful desert site

I had to change my reservation three times, and the staff was incredibly helpful. They went above and beyond to give us the easiest possible stay. The campground itself was reasonably clean with a gorgeous view of the desert and mountains. Sites laid out well and most are pull through and accommodate big rigs. Pool, laundry, general store, showers and lavatories. They did not however have the shuttle to the silver mine as advertised (ended with Covid) and the Enterprise rental in Barstow does not “pick you up“ and were rude besides.

    Shady Lane RV Camp

    A Handy Desert Stop

Traveling while pulling my utility trailer along makes slow going. And pulling up a long, long, long desert mountain grade can be downright exhausting.

So this is a mighty grateful thumbs up review. Robert made my day when I phoned up in the late afternoon and offered me a limited use rate on one their full hookup sites.

And of course, I got in real late, just after late closing hours–10 pm!

I got the last pull through site at the end of the lane. It was a breeze to pull in, get my deep cycle battery charging. 30 Amp with an adapter is all I need.

Shady Lane is mostly populated by real big rigs. So a 50amp socket is also on the post.

The park is a little distance from the highway, so it's blessedly quiet overall. After a grueling pull from Las Vegas, it was a wonderful blessing to crawl into my tent with my feline road companion, Missy. She just loves tent camping the very best. It was down in the 40s last night, but our traveling bed is a cushy cloud ☁️ from Heaven 🌠🌌✨ Just me and Missy and all those stars on that dark desert night.

Just woke to a lovely quiet morning here at Shady Lane. Fully renewed, to make my long drive down towards San Diego.

Looks they offer all the basics, showers, laumdry, and the same wifi network is offered all over these desert parts.. So once signed up, its the same login wherever you go on this network.. That's handy. Great wifi signal all the way down at the end of the lane, too.

Most importantly, Shady Lane offers tent spots and doesn't get snooty about whether you're pulling a utility trailer, or a spit shined mega-rig. On the phone, when I spoke with Robert, told him what I'm pulling along, he was as nice as can be.

I'm glad I found this quiet little desert overnighter. 🏜 Just right for Missy and me.

    Shady Lane RV Camp

    Not what the picture shows.

The units were spaced tightly together with a gravel pad and concrete patio. It was $45 but with GoodSam down to $40.50. Old park. Friendly staff. Bathrooms and showers aged but clean. I was told there was cable TV but didn't try it. The pet area was a sandy strip by the fence.

    Palm Springs-Joshua Tree KOA

    Value for the area

Near and clean campground with clean restrooms requiring a key code to enter. Two laundry rooms. One large pool and three spas (hot tubs to folks not from So Cal) all heated with naturally heated mineral water. Secure. Park staff drive around at night to keep an eye on things. Most camps are close to the neighbors but most folks are quiet. Pay extra foe larger or premium campsites. Play area for the kids by the office. Put-put golf. Not much shade but many hedges. Gravel parking. Separate are for tents, communal sinks. Few trees around. Each camp has a sturdy picnic table. Propane fires only. And probably the same for BBQs. Great AT&T 5G cellular. Wi-Fi is weak, but it’s free.RV spot had fill hookups (water, 30 or 50 amp power, sewer, but no cable TV.

Well run and friendly, responsive staff. Understand that Desert Hot Springs is sometimes WINDY!! And that can mean dust storms, but that goes for the entire Cochella Valley. Not close to anything out here. A convenience store about 1/3 mile away. You won’t be running for coffee here. The the management sometimes hosts events and a weekend breakfast can be purchased.

All rigs are in good repair and I’ve seen nothing sketchy here at all. Been here 3 weeks with 3 more to go.

Bottom line: I would definitely stay here again, but it is a drive to get into DHS or Palm Springs. And it is windy/dusty.

Guide to Skyforest

The Skyforest area sits at approximately 5,700 feet elevation in the San Bernardino Mountains, creating distinct seasonal camping conditions with temperature fluctuations between mountain and valley locations. Winter access becomes challenging on mountain routes, while summer temperatures remain cooler than surrounding lowland areas. Cell service varies significantly with stronger reception near urban centers and weaker signals at higher elevations.

What to do

Hiking to Bonita Falls: Access the trail behind Bonita Ranch Campground for a moderate hike to the waterfall. "A waterfall is a short hike away. We also lucked out finding berries in August," notes Jonathan G. The falls attract varying crowds depending on the day.

Pickleball and swimming: Golden Village Palms offers recreational facilities even for short-term visitors. "Our kids love the pool area, grandparents love the pickleball courts, and there are always fun activities to do throughout the year," shares Jason M. The resort maintains facilities year-round despite seasonal fluctuations.

Exploring historic districts: The Riverside area provides cultural attractions within driving distance of RV campgrounds. "We drove over to the Mission Inn (8 min drive) enjoyed lunch. Their is a pedestrian only shopping area with a Saturday farmer's market plus lots of restaurants," explains Jody R. Many campers combine outdoor stays with urban explorations.

What campers like

Mountain biking access: Skypark Camp RV Resort offers direct access to trails. "Perfect gateway for your adventures in the area," mentions Ken C. The location provides convenience for mountain bikers looking to maximize trail time without additional driving.

Fishing opportunities: Some campgrounds provide direct lake access for fishing enthusiasts. "Lots of families with children, fishing for catfish in the little lake which is shaded with trees and plenty of tables to picnic by the lake," reports Jody R. about Rancho Jurupa Park. Fishing licenses required per California regulations.

Stargazing conditions: The higher elevation sites offer night sky viewing opportunities. "Beautiful views all around Sunrise, Sunset and Night sky. Sights of all kinds of birds like hawks and herons," shares Xochiquetzal G., highlighting the astronomical and wildlife viewing potential in the area.

What you should know

Security measures vary: Rancho Jurupa Park maintains active security patrols. "Great sense of community and great placement of the gates for safety purposes. Ranger is on constant patrol," reports Troy A. However, not all campgrounds have equivalent security, with some advising caution with personal belongings.

Campsite size limitations: Spaces range from spacious to compact across different RV parks. "We have a 265bh transcend and parked it in a site on the water. Great views and enjoyed watching the fish jump in the evenings. The sight was a little small but made it work. Had to hang the rear of the trailer over the river bank about 8'," explains Kevin B. about his experience at Holloway's Marina.

Fire restrictions change seasonally: Fire regulations vary by location and time of year. "No wood fires but they do offer gas fire pits in the community area," notes Bryan S. about Skypark Camp RV Resort. Always check current fire restrictions before arrival, especially during dry months.

Tips for camping with families

Water features for children: Keller Peak Yellow Post Campsites offers natural exploration opportunities. "I really dig these spots because they are well spaced out. It's right around the corner from my cabin so it's a great spot to get outside for the weekend without an epic drive," says Lynn C. The area provides creek access and forest exploration suitable for families.

Structured activities: Some RV campgrounds Skyforest, California visitors frequent have dedicated recreational programming. "Water park and mini golf for kids. Showers and laundry convenient. Camping spots all have fire pit and spacious area for RVs and tents," reports Xochiquetzal G. about Rancho Jurupa Park facilities.

Group camping considerations: Group sites have different amenities than family sites. "Took Girl Scouts here for group camping. Rocky and sand. The family camping was fine! Girls used Porta Potties. I'm hoping they have finished construction on something better since then. However, there are some great kid friendly activities," explains Janet S. about her group camping experience.

Tips from RVers

Road grade warnings: Mission RV Park provides easier access than mountain routes. "Small/tight spaces. Clean facilities. Staff very accommodating. Very busy location," notes Shainna M. When traveling to mountain rv parks near Skyforest, California, Kevin B. advises: "Make sure you take the back way up the mountain. It's no joke pulling a trailer up there."

Site selection strategies: Research specific site numbers before booking. "We stayed in the natural area with hook-ups everything worked great. Neighbors were nice, cute set ups with twinkle lights and people enjoying outdoor fire pits," reports Jody R. about Rancho Jurupa's varied camping sections.

Elevation and temperature preparation: Temperature variations require planning. "We got snow overnight in mid May," reports one camper about the mountain campgrounds. Pack for significantly cooler nights even during summer months, with potential for freezing temperatures during spring and fall.
