    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

O'Neill Regional Park accommodates dogs at all campsites with clean, spacious grounds spanning its main camping loop. Pets must remain leashed throughout the park, with a strictly enforced leash policy on all trails and camping areas. The campground features 78 sites that welcome tent and RV campers with their dogs, each offering fire pits, picnic tables, and grill stations for outdoor cooking. Drinking water spigots are positioned throughout the grounds, providing convenient access for both campers and their pets. Many sites back up to a seasonal creek bed, giving dogs interesting natural areas to explore while on leash. The park maintains free hot showers and clean restroom facilities, making longer stays with pets more comfortable. Rangers regularly patrol the grounds to ensure pet policy compliance and maintain the family-friendly atmosphere.

Several hiking trails connect directly to the campground, offering excellent dog walking opportunities with varying difficulty levels. The park's location provides a surprising balance of wilderness feel while remaining just minutes from urban conveniences in Lake Forest and surrounding Orange County communities. Dogs are permitted on most but not all trails, with clear signage indicating restricted areas. The campground's oak tree canopy provides welcome shade for pets during warmer months, though summer heat requires careful planning for pet comfort and hydration. For extended stays, the campground's proximity to veterinary clinics and pet supply stores in nearby Rancho Santa Margarita proves convenient for campers with pets. The camping area remains busy on weekends but offers a more relaxed atmosphere for dog owners during weekdays when fewer campsites are occupied and trails are less crowded.

      Waterfront RV Park

      Waterfront RV Park, CA

Located in Huntington Beach California. This site is right across the street from the beach. Be careful and aware when staying here. My husband and I had our mountain bikes stolen when sleeping. When we asked for camera footage the owners of the campground claimed the cameras were broken and they couldn’t share the footage. There are many homeless folks living in the area. The showers don’t get hot, but the area is clean. There is a pool and a hot tub and a small dog park. It’s expensive to stay here, but a beautiful spot.

      Oceanside RV Resort

For tent campers - pretty solid place for a quick couple stays

First, the campsite has the MOST CLEANEST restroom and shower booths I have ever visited for tent camping. This is no doubt that for those folks who are needed for good built qaulity toiletery, this will be your location.

      For the down sides;

      1. The trains - There is a rail right behind the tent sites so if you are looking for the tent sites with quiet location: PLEASE STAY AWAY from here. the trains do not operate from around 10 pm, back on operating starting from 5 am.

      2. for T1 tent site, BE AWARE that there is a dog park RIGHT next to the tent site: there will be a urine odor all over the place.

      3. If you are planning on cooking, just be aware that there is no proper location to do a dish wash. You would need some sort of wipes to do.

      Escondido RV Resort

Amazing resort style amenities. Spacious sites

People are complaining about freeway noise, we stayed in site 3 (the closest site to the freeway) and it was quiet as a mouse from inside our (insulated) RV. Amazing amenities. Dog park, pool, clubhouse. We loved site 3 so close to the amenities and restrooms. Overall amazing stay

      Golden Village Palms RV Resort

Don't Let the Town Deter You!

Being reasonably close to our home base, we frequent this park with the family. Major grocery and shopping establishments are nearby, with Target directly across the street, In-n-Out, local parks, and the like. Our kids love the pool area, grandparents love the pickleball courts, and there are always fun activities to do throughout the year. Full-timers are friendly and inclusive of newcomers and passer-throughs. Dog parks are clean and located at either corner of the park. The entrance security kiosk is staffed 24/7, and they'll even help spot you while parking your rig. We cannot say enough good things about this place.

Check their website for events and specials.

Launch Pointe Recreation Destination and RV Park

      Nicest cleanest campground

I had site 126 in the fields, corner site and lake view. This campground has a pool, splash pad, park, dog park and access to the lake. They also have a band on Saturday nights. The only bad part is they strictly enforce quiet time at 10pm. I felt like a kid being told to go to bed. I feel like on weekends people should be able to stay up late in front of their camper with low voices. Shouldn’t be hounded night after night! That was my only complaint.

      Hare School Park

It’s the sports fields parking lot

I’ve been here for a couple days and nobody’s mess with us. There’s other people that are staying in another parking lot attached that are homeless in their vehicles mostly cars and vans. I’m in a 25 foot Fleetwood RV. There’s a dog park kind of area with a big field they can run around and just clean up after them. There’s no public bathrooms, but there are trash cans so clean up after yourself please. It’s not tent friendly. I don’t believe.

    Guide to Lake Forest

Dog owners looking for camping options in southern California find numerous pet-friendly sites in the Lake Forest vicinity. Located in Orange County at an elevation of approximately 375 feet, Lake Forest sits within a Mediterranean climate zone with moderate temperatures year-round. The surrounding campgrounds typically see summer temperatures ranging from 75-95°F, with winter lows rarely dropping below 40°F.

    What to do

Hiking and beach access: Crystal Cove State Park offers accessible hiking trails with ocean views. "Quick hike into the hills with amazing views overlooking the ocean. The sunset was absolutely beautiful and in the morning we were high up above the marine layer which was really cool to see," writes Torye C. about Moro Campground.

Water activities: Newport Dunes RV Resort provides family-oriented water recreation. "They have activities for the kids like arts and crafts, an inflatable obstacle course or you can rent paddle boards or watch a movie on the beach. There are fantastic running/bike trails along the Back Bay," explains Karissa J. about the Newport Dunes waterfront experience.

Mountain biking: Blue Jay Campground offers elevated terrain for cycling enthusiasts. "The campground is beautiful, the drive can be a bit weird since it is all commercial and residential. There is literally a Starbucks 3 minutes from camp. The sites are wonderful and many hiking areas," notes Janet S. about this nearby mountain option.

    What campers like

Ocean views: Many campers appreciate the coastal scenery at Crystal Cove. "The sites are terraced, so no matter which site you get you'll have a view of the ocean. It is in a developed area of Laguna Beach, so there is not much solitude or quiet enjoyment of nature. However, it's super convenient to have stores like Trader Joe's and restaurants just a few minutes away," shares Elly A.

Convenient beach access: Doheny State Beach Campground offers direct beach proximity. "Beautiful beachfront camping steps from the sand. Dry camping with a dump station available. Great sunsets and beautiful sand," explains Paul N. about this oceanfront option near Lake Forest.

Quick escapes: Blue Jay Campground provides accessible wilderness close to urban areas. "My family and I came here for a quick end of year camping trip. We wanted something close to home, but able to get away. In this, the campground excels. It's literally five minutes away from civilization, which we took advantage of on several occasions," notes Andrew J. F.

    What you should know

Noise considerations: Some sites experience traffic or train noise. At San Mateo Campground, "We're next to Camp Pendleton and I'm pretty sure I could hear gun exercises lol. About 1.5 miles from the highway. Not a deal killer but if you want complete peace and quiet, this isn't it," explains one camper.

Reservation requirements: Most dog-friendly campgrounds near Lake Forest require advance booking. "We were just a short walk to the bathrooms which were spotless. They were being cleaned frequently. The showers are coin operated but it didn't take many coins to get a decent warm shower," notes Amy H. about Crystal Cove.

Weather considerations: Seasonal changes impact camping comfort. "The oak tree canopy provides welcome shade for pets during warmer months, though summer heat requires careful planning for pet comfort and hydration," notes one camper about regional conditions.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Prado Regional Park offers kid-friendly amenities. "There is frisbee golf and many activities. Lots of space and very gorgeous. Does get hot in the summer," advises Kimberly H. about this inland option.

Beach day trips: Consider proximity to multiple beaches for day outings. "Take the family and bring the toys! This place is the best of both family and party atmosphere! Be warned it is not a sleepy RV park," mentions Derrick about Newport Dunes.

Protected campsites: Look for sites with natural barriers. "The campsites are seperated with some trees and bushes, albeit still close together," reports one reviewer about San Mateo Campground, noting the partial privacy that helps contain children and pets.

    Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Orangeland RV Park offers complete services for larger rigs. "Super friendly staff, super clean, 2 dog parks, offers really good wifi & cable. Can pick the oranges out of the tree," notes Alivia R. about this pet-friendly RV option.

Dump station access: Plan for waste management at campgrounds with limited facilities. "Full hook ups are available for RV's but you need a surge protector and a water filter is advised if you want to drink the water," advises Nicole H. about San Onofre Beach camping.

Space limitations: Many coastal sites have tight spacing. "The campsites are close together so be prepared to meet your neighbors. It's also very quiet as soon as the sun sets since there is no campfires keeping people up," cautions Chanel C. about site proximity at coastal parks.
