Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Gazelle, CA

Kangaroo Lake Campground's rustic pet-friendly sites accommodate both tent and RV camping from June through October. Located in Gazelle, California, this established campground features picnic tables, toilets, and trash service while allowing pets throughout the property. Nearby, the Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort offers pet-friendly options across tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping units. These campgrounds maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes in common areas and proper waste disposal. Several dispersed camping options near Castle Lake also welcome pets with more relaxed regulations but fewer amenities. Most campgrounds in the region limit pets to two per site and require vaccination records upon check-in. The campground hosts at Trailer Lane are particularly accommodating to campers with pets, often recommending suitable sites based on pet size and behavior needs.

Hiking trails surrounding Mount Shasta provide excellent opportunities for dog exercise, with most requiring pets to remain leashed on designated paths. The forested areas around Gazelle offer natural shade crucial for summer pet camping when ground temperatures can exceed safe levels for paw pads. Trailer Lane Campground features a small pet area separate from the resident farm animals, allowing dogs to stretch their legs after long travel days. Access to streams and small lakes gives pets cooling options during warmer months, though campers should carry sufficient fresh water for pets at dispersed sites lacking water hookups. Wildlife encounters are common in the area, necessitating proper pet containment especially during dawn and dusk hours. The campground's proximity to I-5 provides quick access to veterinary services in Mount Shasta and Weed should emergency pet care be needed during a camping trip.

    Beehive Point Shoreline Campground

    Great Location With Caution

This was a nice short distance away from the i5. Great view of greenery and lake and the night stars. If you happen to have pets be cautious there is a lot of broken glass everywhere, my dog had several cuts on her pads.

    Waiiaka RV Park

Good place to stop for the night

We stayed overnight on the way to New Mexico. It was clean, quiet, close enough to the freeway to be convenient without being loud. Dog park and playground were small, campsite were packed close together. It was generally nice but unremarkable.

Great camping for tent or RV

We highly recommend this campground as they have all the amenities…a general store, boat rental, cabin rental, activities for the kiddos, a dog park and pub. Water, toilets and showers are readily available, though a bit in need of a good coat of paint and showers need cleaning/updating .

    Waiiaka RV Park

Nice & Clean RV Park, Tight Spaces

I stayed at this park with my daughter and dog for one night while passing through.

The facilities are very clean, showers have nice hot water for a minimal fee.

The dog park is small, but well maintained with poop bags on site for your use.

The RV Park workers were fantastic, checked on us during set up to make sure we had what we needed.

There are obviously quite a few long term renters at the park, but they showed pride in there homes and area. Everyone’s areas were clean and orderly, and the park was incredibly quiet.

Only down side is the sites are tightly packed together. My door was only a couple off feet off of my neighbors hook ups. When the camper next to us packed up in the morning, we were outside by our door. The smell of sewage was pretty strong, we just went in our camper and waited for him to finish up.

Worth a stop for the money if your going to be in the area.

    Hayward Flat

    Family camp out

The campground was beautiful with easy access to the lake and spacious sites that easily fit our large family. This campground was also pet friendly and welcoming to our dogs as well. Our only complaints were that there was no lightning in the bathroom and the quiet hours were not enforced as we were woken up by loud partying well after 2 am.

    Trailer Lane Campground

    Great place to stay!

Wonderful place to stay! Very nice little campground in Weed, CA. We originally were just stopping for the night so I had reserved a 50 amp pull thru, but we had some problems with our fifth wheel and my husband wanted some shade to work on it. Karen was nice enough to juggle reservations and get us in a 30 amp back in that had shade. Plus, we ended up staying for two nights. Karen was very accommodating and helpful and we really appreciated it! The campground is fun, has some outdoor games, a small dog park, and a community fire pit. And visiting the goats and chickens was definitely a bonus! I highly recommend Trailer Lane Campground and would definitely stay there again! We didn't use the bathrooms or laundry.

    Beautiful place to stay!

I absolutely loved camping here with friends. And we already can’t wait to book another trip! Breath-taking view of Mt. Shasta was just around the corner from our site. Very clean, family/pet friendly, hiking, fishing, and swimming! Overall a wonderful stay!

Guide to Gazelle

Camping options near Gazelle, California range from established facilities to dispersed sites in the Klamath National Forest. Located at approximately 2,800 feet elevation in Siskiyou County, this region experiences warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The area has numerous small waterways and sits within 20 miles of Mount Shasta, creating varied camping microclimates between forest-dense areas and open meadows.

What to do

Mountain lake access: Castle Lake Dispersed Camping offers proximity to both Castle Lake and Mount Shasta views. A camper notes, "You can hear the river running, and has a nice view of Mount Shasta," though "the toilets up at Castle Lake are still covered in snow and inaccessible" during spring months.

Fishing opportunities: Trailer Lane Campground provides river access for anglers. One visitor mentions it's the "perfect place for fishing or gold panning" while another appreciated the "connection to nature" and wildlife viewing, including "baby gosling and many different type of birds."

Swimming spots: Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort features a beach area for swimming. A camper shared, "We took 2 small children in a rented camper and went to this lake... short walk with our water toys to the nice sandy beach and lake." Some visitors also "rented kayaks" and others found "a rope swing hanging on a tree and tied up and did some rope swing fun into the lake."

Hiking trails: The area surrounding McBride Springs Campground connects to several hiking routes. A visitor mentioned "The campsite itself was a short walk from a few great hike. The Muir Acsencion was the one we took." Another camper noted its proximity to "Old Ski Bowl trail head where both campers and locals gather to watch the sun rise or set over the mountains."

What campers like

Year-round accessibility: Some campgrounds remain open through winter. Mount Shasta City KOA Holiday operates year-round, with one camper stating, "We've stayed at this campground twice now. Each time was in the summer and for only one night each time. We thought the spots were nice. There was lots of shade offered by the many trees."

Natural water features: Dispersed Campsite near Castle Lake and Shasta offers proximity to swimming areas. A camper mentioned, "It was a like 10 minute drive to the lake which is what makes this spot so worth it!" Another noted, "Keep going on the road keeping in mind that you are trying to get to exact coordinates listed which are accurate."

Pet-friendly policies: Most campgrounds welcome pets with varying rules. Waiiaka RV Park provides dedicated pet areas, with a reviewer noting, "My dogs did love the dog run area, it wasn't too bad, nice for them to stretch out & run around a bit & it wasn't filled with dog poop."

Camp hosts: Several sites have attentive staff that enhance the camping experience. One camper at Trailer Lane Campground mentioned, "Jay and Karen are very friendly and helpful. The vibe is cozy and tucked away in the forest. With a golf course down the street and amazing views of Mt Shasta, Weed is a hidden gem."

What you should know

Seasonal water availability: Some campgrounds have limited water during dry periods. At McBride Springs Campground, a visitor noted "There is no water right now because the spring/well is dried up. There are fire rings on about 1/2 the camp cites. Bathrooms are close but, kinda gross."

Access road challenges: Some dispersed sites require appropriate vehicles. At Castle Lake Dispersed Camping, a camper reported, "I would probably not recommend with a trailer. I made it down with my Tacoma and a 12ft travel trailer but it was a stretch. Super easy to get in, but took a long time to turn around and get back out."

Crowding concerns: Popular sites fill quickly in peak season. One Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort visitor explained, "We love it here. However, it's super popular and we only go in the off season due to too many people booking in advance."

Campfire regulations: Fire rules vary by site and season. At Kangaroo Lake Campground, fires are generally permitted in designated rings, but one visitor at a nearby dispersed site noted, "I don't think you can do fires right now and there wasn't too many options of where to stay."

Tips for camping with families

Accessibility options: Kangaroo Lake Campground provides facilities for all ability levels. A visitor observed, "It appears that a lot of the walkways and facilities are designed to accommodate people in wheelchairs or people with walkers. It looks like everything is maintained at a higher standard than I've seen at most Forest Service campgrounds."

Recreation amenities: Some campgrounds offer additional activities beyond natural features. At Trailer Lane Campground, a family noted the site "has some outdoor games, a small dog park, and a community fire pit. And visiting the goats and chickens was definitely a bonus!"

Child-friendly lakes: Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort offers gentle water entry points. A visitor shared, "We took 2 small children in a rented camper and went to this lake on a recommendation from friends in Mt. Shasta... we were not disappointed! They were plenty of trees in the campground, everybody was friendly, short walk with our water toys to the nice sandy beach and lake."

Pet-friendly camping with kids: When camping with both children and pets near Gazelle, consider proximity to veterinary services. The Mount Shasta City KOA Holiday maintains a dog park and is located near town services, with one camper noting its "extremely convenient" location near "I-5 and Hwy 97."

Tips from RVers
