Best RV Parks & Resorts near Del Mar, CA

Several RV resorts near Del Mar offer varied experiences for motorhome travelers. Escondido RV Resort provides full hookup sites with 50-amp electrical service and accommodates big rigs on its terraced property. The park features reliable utilities, a heated pool, and a dog park, though sites are positioned near Interstate 15. "Space 49 is small. The park is hilly," noted one visitor about Escondido's terrain layout. San Diego RV Resort in La Mesa delivers similar amenities with full hookups and big rig access, while Mission Bay RV Resort maintains 260 full-service sites with 30/50-amp connections and concrete pads. Freeway noise impacts several Del Mar area RV parks. Sites positioned near major thoroughfares experience traffic sounds, particularly at Circle RV Resort and San Diego RV Resort which sit between highways. Advance reservations are essential during peak seasons, especially for oceanfront properties like Oceanside RV Resort where demand remains consistently high. Many parks enforce RV age restrictions, though policies vary by location. Dump stations are available at all the major resorts, with some offering the service to non-guests for a fee. Laundry facilities are limited, with only Oceanside RV Resort specifically noting on-site machines. Winter stays are possible throughout the region as most parks operate year-round in Southern California's mild climate.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

    Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park

One of the Best County Parks you will find

This is a great park in Southern Orange County. I have tent camped here for years with my kids in the Live Oak campground and never had a bad experience. There are hiking trails everywhere with lots of wildlife to watch. I switched to a travel trailer several years ago and now use Ortega Flats campground. The sites are big and well spaced, with 30 amp electric. The water is off for the time being. The dump station is very close by and easy to access.

Guide to Del Mar

RV camping near Del Mar, California provides access to the mild coastal climate of San Diego County, where winter temperatures typically range from 50-70°F. The region sits within a Mediterranean climate zone characterized by dry summers and mild, occasionally wet winters. Most RV resorts operate within 15 miles of the coastline, making them convenient bases for beach excursions.

What to do

Beach access options: At Paradise By The Sea RV Resort, campers can walk directly to the ocean through a back gate. "The RV park has its own back gate to the beach. It meanders through a little city park and then you can take the roads to find little beach access or walk through the neighborhood down to the proper beach and Oceanside Pier," explains a reviewer who stayed for over a month.

Water activities: Fiddlers Cove RV Park offers equipment rentals for water recreation. "Kayak, boat, SUP available for rental. Easy access to all of San Diego," notes one visitor. This military installation features a marina with various watercraft options for active duty and retired military personnel.

Biking trails: Mission Bay RV Resort provides convenient access to bike paths. "There is a path that goes along the bay that is about a mile long, and also a bridge that connects the park to Campland on the Bay," states a reviewer who appreciates the connectivity between parks. The flat terrain makes for family-friendly cycling routes.

What campers like

Resort-style amenities: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay offers extensive recreational options. "Great pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well," reports one visitor. The resort also includes "a nice gym that opens to pool area, game room with pool table, scuffle board and poker tables."

Heated facilities: Winter visitors appreciate temperature-controlled amenities at Escondido RV Resort. "Despite facing challenging weather conditions with heavy rain and hail from an atmospheric river, everything continued to function seamlessly- from the electric hookups to the water supply," notes a recent guest. The resort maintains a heated outdoor pool year-round.

Accessibility to attractions: Most parks provide strategic positioning for regional exploration. "Great location near I-15 and Gas stations. Staff is kind and professional. Full hookups. Fill propane available. Resort-style amenities. Heated outdoor Pool. Nice dog park. Access to a park for walking," comments one visitor about their experience at Escondido RV Resort.

What you should know

Age restrictions: Many parks enforce RV age limits but may make exceptions. At Escondido RV Resort, one camper notes: "Little pricey and has RV age restrictions but I sent pics and was allowed even though I was outside the age." At Olive Avenue RV Resort, a reviewer reports: "Arbitrarily rejected accepting our motorhome based on a picture I sent, which they undoubtedly did not even check."

Site leveling challenges: Circle RV Resort has drainage-related design issues. "The city made them slope all the pads for water drainage… a huge amount! We maxed our our tongue on multiple boards to level off," explains one RVer who struggled with the extreme angles. Some parks offer additional leveling blocks upon request.

Beach conditions: Coastal erosion affects some nearby beaches. A Paradise By The Sea visitor observed: "The beach was hit hard by storms over the past year apparently and much sand has washed away. Leaving most of the beach covered in a thick layer of smooth river stones. Not easy to keep your balance on but doesn't hinder your walk to the surf too badly."

Tips for camping with families

Pool options: Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay offers family-friendly water features. "Large pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV!" notes one family who enjoyed the differentiated spaces for various age groups.

Recreational areas: Dedicated spaces for children exist at several parks. Paradise By The Sea provides "an indoor rec room with billiards, shuffle board and more" plus an "outdoor rec area with corn hole, picnic area and more," according to a family visitor who appreciated the variety of activities.

Gaming facilities: Mission Bay RV Resort connects to sister property amenities. "There's a path that goes along the bay that is about a mile long, and also a bridge that connects the park to Campland on the Bay. As a resident of mission bay, you will have full access to Campland, without paying the extra $$ to stay," explains a reviewer who maximized recreational options.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity considerations: WiFi and cellular service vary significantly between parks. At Paradise By The Sea, campers report: "AT&T cell service worked full bars and wifi was great. Very little trouble working remote or streaming. There were a few times where we needed the support of our back up hotspot on our phone for video calls instead of their wifi."

Drainage systems: Escondido RV Resort receives praise for infrastructure quality. "The drainage system at Escondido RV Resort was impeccable, preventing any issues with mudslides even in such extreme weather," notes a visitor who stayed during heavy storms, highlighting the importance of good drainage for winter camping.

Hookup placement: Consider utility location when selecting sites. At Mission Bay RV Resort, one RVer cautions: "Several issues here. First the most obvious the connections are at the front of the space on the drivers side. If you back in you better have 100 feet of hose sewer and power cord." This unusual configuration requires extra-long hookup equipment.
