Dispersed Camping is allowed in the National Forest except in the area surrounding Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, Bass Lake, Redinger Lake, and the Merced River Canyon. Campfire permits are required at all times whenever you plan to have a fire on public land outside of a developed campground. When building a fire please remember to only pick up down and dead wood that is no larger than wrist size and to never leave a campfire unattended.
You can obtain a campfire permit at any Forest office or online at www.prevetnwildfireca.org. Be sure to check and see if campfire restrictions are in effect, when campfire restrictions are in place you will not be able to make a fire in dispersed camping areas (Developed Designated Campgrounds Only) but, you will be able to operate gas stoves, and lanterns with your permit.
When camping in the Forest proper food storage is also required either using a bear box, or by the proper use of the counter balance method. While camping anywhere in the forest also keep in mind that there are other people in the forest and we advise you to respect them and their space.
You may stay at one campsite for a limit of 14 days and you may stay on each district for a limit of 21 days before we will ask you to vacate. Please follow ENVUM maps for all designated roads and vehicle limitations.

We built Camp Edison in 1963 in a pine forest on the western shores of Shaver Lake, California. It’s been a favorite vacation spot ever since. Camp 4 is a shared site campground, which means six individuals (including children 3 and older) are assigned to each site. The campground has a total of 61 sites (only 25 open in winter) which accommodate tents only. Since Camp 4 is a walk-in campground, no vehicles are allowed to enter the campground. You may not sleep in any type of vehicle in the Camp 4 parking lot, including vans. __ Each site has picnic tables, food storage lockers and fire rings that are shared by all occupants of that site. Restrooms, showers and drinking water are located in the center of the campground. Tent areas are mostly level and most sites have shade. Due to the close proximity of sites and its shared nature, Camp 4 is not considered a quiet campground. Other than Service Animals, pets are not allowed at Camp 4.__ Parking is available adjacent to the campground (approximately 100-300 yards away). A parking permit is required from spring through fall. You will receive a free parking permit upon check-in.__

Dorabelle Campground is a popular family camping destination above Shaver Lake. Some sites are shaded by a thick stand of fir, cedar and pine trees, while other sites are more open. This camp is a great base for experiencing the wide variety of recreational activities in the area. Boats can be moored nearby and some sites offer views of the lake.
Hikers can access 5 trails from the campground: Dinkey Road (.5 miles), Musick Meadow (.75 miles), Peninsula Loop (1 mile), Burr Meadow (1.5 miles) and Osprey Cove (2 miles). Horseback riding is also offered nearby. Popular activities at Shaver Lake include swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Anglers can fish for kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill.
Each site has a dirt parking spur, table, fire ring, and grill. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided.
Surrounded by dense pine forest, Shaver Lake is a popular destination within the High Sierra Ranger District. It sits at an elevation of 5,500 feet and is known for its variety of fish. The Sierra National Forest, located on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, is known for its spectacular mountain scenery and abundant natural resources. The terrain includes rolling, oak-covered foothills, heavily forested middle elevation slopes and the starkly beautiful alpine landscape of the High Sierra.

Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Each site has access to a communal outdoor kitchen which includes a large gas grill, microwave, toaster oven, hot plate, coffee maker, and an assortment of kitchenware. The site has a seating area with a view, a full fridge, and a large dish-wash sink, and food prep station. Each site has access to a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Guests are also encouraged to interact with over 100 animals on the ranch such as puppies, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, mini-pigs and lots of cats and kittens. We will happily introduce you to the Ranch and our practices in our mission to promote the use of life-stock to pursue sustainable fire management. The ranch is nearly 100 acres, and affords several miles of hiking and bike trails, some off-roading areas, and two ponds. And being 35 minutes away from Yosemite National Forest is a bonus as well.

Spring Cove Campground is located across the street from Bass Lake in a grove of oak, pine and cedar, and is well suited for tents or small RVs. The sites are shaded and clustered close together. Bass Lake offers many recreational activities and is a popular summer destination.
Bass Lake offers a beach and boat ramp. Popular activities include swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, sailing and fishing for bass, trout, bluegill and catfish. The 2.6-mile Spring Cove Trail can be accessed within the camp. Other hiking trails in the area include Willow Creek (2.7 miles), Goat Mountain (2.6 miles) and the Way-of-the-Mono Interpretive Trail (1 mile). A variety of educational programs are offered on weekends during the summer.
Each campsite has a picnic table and campfire ring. Drinking water and accessible flush toilets are provided. The facility's short parking spurs are paved and dirt-surfaced. Due to tight turns and configurations, this camp is not suitable for large travel trailers or RVs.

Bass Lake is a very popular area that's known for its variety of fish, as well as the bald and golden eagles that make their home here.
Yosemite National Park can be reached in under an hour, making it an ideal day trip from Bass Lake.
Rules & Reservation Policies As you make travel plans that include reservations on Recreation.gov, there are standard policies that apply to most locations of which you should be aware. Wawona Campground is currently first come, first served through the night of April 12; sites 7-30 only. Dispersed Camping is allowed in the National Forest except in the area surrounding Huntington Lake, Shaver Lake, Bass Lake, Redinger Lake, and the Merced River Canyon. Campfire permits are required at all times whenever you plan to have a fire on public land outside of a developed campground. When building a fire please remember to only pick up down and dead wood that is no larger than wrist size and to never leave a campfire unattended.
You can obtain a campfire permit at any Forest office or online at www.prevetnwildfireca.org. Be sure to check and see if campfire restrictions are in effect, when campfire restrictions are in place you will not be able to make a fire in dispersed camping areas (Developed Designated Campgrounds Only) but, you will be able to operate gas stoves, and lanterns with your permit.
When camping in the Forest proper food storage is also required either using a bear box, or by the proper use of the counter balance method. While camping anywhere in the forest also keep in mind that there are other people in the forest and we advise you to respect them and their space.
You may stay at one campsite for a limit of 14 days and you may stay on each district for a limit of 21 days before we will ask you to vacate. Please follow ENVUM maps for all designated roads and vehicle limitations.

We built Camp Edison in 1963 in a pine forest on the western shores of Shaver Lake, California. It’s been a favorite vacation spot ever since. Our 252 campsites are available to the public and they include electricity and cable TV. WiFi is also available at an additional cost. We’re open year-round.

Dorabelle Campground is a popular family camping destination above Shaver Lake. Some sites are shaded by a thick stand of fir, cedar and pine trees, while other sites are more open. This camp is a great base for experiencing the wide variety of recreational activities in the area. Boats can be moored nearby and some sites offer views of the lake.
Hikers can access 5 trails from the campground: Dinkey Road (.5 miles), Musick Meadow (.75 miles), Peninsula Loop (1 mile), Burr Meadow (1.5 miles) and Osprey Cove (2 miles). Horseback riding is also offered nearby. Popular activities at Shaver Lake include swimming, motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Anglers can fish for kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, catfish and bluegill.
Each site has a dirt parking spur, table, fire ring, and grill. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided.
Surrounded by dense pine forest, Shaver Lake is a popular destination within the High Sierra Ranger District. It sits at an elevation of 5,500 feet and is known for its variety of fish. The Sierra National Forest, located on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada, is known for its spectacular mountain scenery and abundant natural resources. The terrain includes rolling, oak-covered foothills, heavily forested middle elevation slopes and the starkly beautiful alpine landscape of the High Sierra.

Late Cancellations or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. Cabins / Lookouts: Customers who cancel a cabin or lookout reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee. Group Facility (including Cabins and Lookouts): Customers who cancel a group overnight facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee. Group Day Use Area: Customers who cancel a group day-use facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will forfeit the total day-use fee. Changes or Cancellations within the Cut-off Window: Once a reservation date has begun, customers cannot change a reservation using the online system or through the Call Center (see below for early departures). If the location is staffed, on-site personnel may or may not be able to assist with changes or cancellations (check with local staff). No-Shows Overnight and Day-Use Facilities: A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date and will hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night___s recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use fee for a day-use facility.

Each site has access to a communal outdoor kitchen which includes a large gas grill, microwave, toaster oven, hot plate, coffee maker, and an assortment of kitchenware. The site has a seating area with a view, a full fridge, and a large dish-wash sink, and food prep station. Each site has access to a bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Guests are also encouraged to interact with over 100 animals on the ranch such as puppies, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, mini-pigs and lots of cats and kittens. We will happily introduce you to the Ranch and our practices in our mission to promote the use of life-stock to pursue sustainable fire management. The ranch is nearly 100 acres, and affords several miles of hiking and bike trails, some off-roading areas, and two ponds. And being 35 minutes away from Yosemite National Forest is a bonus as well.
