At the mouth of Borrego Palm Canyon, where the Santa Rosa Mountains rise sharply from the desert floor, this established state park campground sits on the western edge of Borrego Springs. The layout divides into three sections: one with full hookups suited to larger RVs (max 35 ft), and two additional loops with more spacing between sites. The outer-ring sites face open desert and give the impression of distance from the campground's interior, even if generators and neighboring campers remain audible. Town is close enough to ride a bike for ice cream or resupply on ice.
The campground is consistently well-maintained. Barbara M. calls it "very clean, well-maintained, and nice location," and multiple reviewers note the raked fire rings and regular ranger presence as evidence of active upkeep. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Many also have shade ramadas, which matter considerably given the lack of natural shade and the intensity of the desert sun. A few sites (116, 104, and 107) feature stone ramadas with built-in fireplaces, which reviewers single out as worth requesting specifically.
The Borrego Palm Canyon Trail starts directly from the campground, making a drive to the trailhead unnecessary. The hike leads to a fan palm oasis, though fire damage has closed off the ability to walk among the palms themselves. The Slot Canyon trail is also accessible nearby. Bighorn sheep occasionally pass through the campground along the trail corridor. Nights here bring dark skies with wide sightlines toward the surrounding mountains and desert, and coyotes are audible after dark.
Reservations are strongly advised. Sites book up well in advance through the season, which runs through late April when daytime temperatures climb sharply. Showers require tokens purchased on-site (two for $1, each providing two minutes of water). Firewood is available at camp but cash only, at three bundles for $20. Elly A. notes that "as beautiful as the wildflowers are during a super bloom, the crowds are super distracting," so March visits during bloom years require adjusted expectations for both availability and atmosphere.
Campers who want more dispersed options within the park can find campgrounds around Anza-Borrego Desert State Park that trade amenities for solitude. The Borrego Palm Canyon Group (G1-G5) - Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a short distance away for groups needing dedicated space.

Bookings may extend from the arrival date to the desired departure date – based on availability and the park’s maximum stay rules. Reservation are available October 1st through April 30th.
