Loved camping in the big trees. Good campfire rings, clean air and trees provide ample privacy for quiet camping. We did a lot of tree hugging!
Big Space and big sky! We camped in February and it was cold at night but perfect day hiking weather. Hiked up to palm grove oasis. There is so much natural beauty here. We saw big horned sheep.
Honestly one of our favorite campgrounds. Scenic, quiet, dog friendly and close to awesome swimming holes. We booked the MG2 group site and worth the $. It was tucked away and heaven. Close to the coast if you want clams and not far from SF day trip.
We stayed there one night while traveling. It was ok. Campsites are very close together. The beach is just a short walk over the dunes but we were not allowed to take pups off leash on the sand. There was an abundance of Rangers patrolling the beach, we were stopped to give a warning even with pups on leash. Glad it was just one night. The best electric hook up with the most privacy was site #20. The best tent sites were 71 and 81. This campground is close to the beach and got very damp overnight. There is a level trail around the lagoon but warning the east side of this lagoon trail is slathered in poison oak. On the positive, great campground for bird watching on the lagoon.
In February we had the place to ourselves. Temperature dropped to 43'. Best hook up site #24. Best tent site #65. A few pretty good trails to get the heart pumping. We took the Cedar Trail on the left side of the fork. The water at the spigots spewed dark brown water. Bring your own water source. Definitely cougar country so kept pups close to us. Clean bathrooms and wild stormy skies.
Stayed 1 night while traveling should have done 3. Best hook up site #13 due to privacy. Pretty trees and little creek for pups to splash around. The train cars are close by to visit via trail. It was quiet and very clean.
We camped here on New Years Eve. It was quiet. This area is interesting. Has a Mad Max Thunderdome vibe. Definitely go to Salvation Mountain then drive thru Slab City. I walked thru the odd Outdoor Art Gallery called “East Jesus” fascinating population of people live out there. We camped at the Mecca camp which is a mile south of the ranger station. The actual Salton sea is right there. Great for bird watching bring binoculars. The sunrise and sunsets were some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. Best hook up site #138 but hands down best tent site #134. If I didn’t get either of those I would not have stayed as sites are very close with zero privacy barrier. The best part of this campground were the hosts. Good folks
Quite remote but worth it! Stayed 5 nights here. Has everything you could want. Big trees, wildlife, easy trails and waterfalls waterfalls waterfalls! The water was freezing in August. Perfect.
We stayed here the summer before it burned down. It was 95 degrees in this redwood forest. I am grateful to have visited these big trees. We had a great trip. It was a nice park with a lot of old redwood trees. Fun creek behind campground for pups to splash around. Easy flat trails to walk. There were Friendly Europeans with their families, Quiet park, But a ton of misquitos! Bring the spray. We drove 9 miles to Boulder Creek and found an epic swimming hole by Cafe to help cool us in the 95 degree heat. Bring groceries and firewood as it cost us $13 for a bundle at the market. Best Sites: Huckleberry #62 Blooms #129.
We keep coming back here. Great little campground with clean air, starry skies and big trees. Lake Fulmor is 3 miles away to take pups swimming off leash. Idyllwild is a charming town for small town vibe. Nice trails close to PCT and rock climbing by Humber Park. Groceries are expensive on this mountain so pick up food in Hemet. The Idyllwild campground is crowded and loud so we always stay at Stone Creek. Best electric site is #50 Best tent site is #26. Great little nature loop but watch out for the big cats and snakes!
Traveling thru AZ had a one night stop here. Pretty terrain, lovely sky and mellow vibe. Nice to walk around with pups on leash and enjoy the Ancient saguaro cactus. Sunset was epic. Close to Tucson so we checked out the college town and got some amazing donuts. I would not plan a week here but it was pretty for a night. Had electric hook ups!
Stayed one night while traveling. So glad we stopped. Beautiful views of Picacho Peak and the ancient cactus trees. Nice flat trails walking thru the desert, gentle breeze and surreal sunset colors. We had our skamper so able to hook up to watch the game see pic. We were surprised to learn about the civil war history that took place. I had no idea.
Such a quiet campground. Sites are spaced apart. Great big trees that sing in the wind. This park is not an easy drive to get to from anywhere. Maybe that is why it is so quiet. Must stay at least 3 nights to rationalize that drive. Nice bluff trails, picnic sites and the Rhododendron Preserve has an easy hike. We would like to return again.
We liked this campground because the beach is literally right there under your nose! Just a few steps down the stairs. There are showers to wash the sand off your feet. We camped on the ocean side so listening to the waves at night was lovely. It is a crowded campground with spaces so close together you can hear everything from your neighbor. Fun location as just across the street is the charming community of Cardiff. Amazing swanky Seaside Market, quirky thrift shop and great VG's donuts.
Stunning scenery. The ecology in this park is pristine just as it should be. We could have easily stayed a week here. Campsites are well spaced out so it was quiet. Hiking trails are easy walking on bluff. Beach was filled with fun agates to admire. Our dog was in heaven running off leash on the beach. Great vibe here. Very special place
Lots of kids riding bikes and having fun! I suggest to follow their lead. Bring a bike to explore the loops and trail to beach. Walking the one mile each way to the beach was nice with our dog on leash because the terrain has snake potential. We enjoyed the view in our Skamper pop up from site with Electric hook up site 30. But other Electric sites had good views 24,26,27 and 28. Clean bathrooms. Nice campground will be back.
