  Desert Trails RV Park - Adult-only Resort

  Nice 40+ Campground

  This is a nice 40+ campground right on the edge of Saguaro National Park. The sites are gravel with full hook ups. I had plenty of room to maneuver my 19’ travel trailer. They have planned activities -at least in the winter- which is nice to see. There seem to be a lot of long term guests here and they are very social with each other.

  Davis Monthan AFB FamCamp- Boneyard Vista

  Busy- Restricted Access

  The Fam Camp on DMAFB is one of the best fam camps offered by the USAF. This site gets very busy during the winter or special events (the air shows). People often rent these spots for long term use as well.

  You must have base access in order to stay at this site.

  The sites are spacious and offer full hookups. There is a dump station, bathrooms and and laundry on site.

  The base also offers a commissary and BX with a food court.

  Rincon Country West RV Resort

  Tucson’s Finest RV Resort

  Rincon West RV Resort in Tucson has all the amenities you could dream up. Crystal clear heated pool and two hot tubs, billiards room, two small gyms, lots of showers and restrooms, even classes. Some live here all year in park models, others spend the winter in RV’s. Overnight stays and longer are no problem. Seems to be a designated area for RV’s on a short term basis, mixed in with longer stayers. Spotless, level pads, ample parking. Tennis and pickle ball courts, shuffleboard, etc... Mail room on-site.

  Casino Del Sol

  Great stop!

  Our first time taking an RV to a casino and LOVED that they had a rv park with full hookups. They offered to shuttle us to the casino and they did not have anyone available to shuttle us back so we walked but it wasn’t too far. While the slots were noticeably tighter than usual being an Indian reservation, we still had a nice time. DoorDash even found us so that’s a plus.

  Convenient Desert & City Location

  Gilbert Ray is an extremely affordable campground located in Saguaro National Park. It doesn't have showers but it does have rv hookups and a bathroom with hot water dish wash stations.

  It is located right next to Tucson AZ but features lots of hiking options in the national park. The best of both worlds. It has very helpful campground hosts and a tourist draw.. old west Hollywoodmovie sets.

  I really like this safe quiet and convenient option as a single female traveler

  Gilbert Ray Campground

  Love this place!!!

  This was the second time my husband and I have stayed here. We first tent camped here in September 2020, it wasn’t busy and there were maybe 3 other people in the whole camp. When we were traveling this past time though Arizona we stopped again because we loved it so much last time. This trip we were in our RV and it was during busy season, but we still loved it just as much! You can’t beat the views and it was only $20/night for full hook ups! We will be back!

  El Pais Motel & Campgrounds

  Eclectic!

  If you have to stay in an RV park, this is the one to stay in. It is absolutely not your typical RV park that feels like a parking lot with rows of RVs all side by side. This is a combo of an old timey motel, vintage trailers that are rented out on air bnb, a cool hangout area and pool with music playing and they have movies on some nights on the big screen in the pool area, and a couple of FHU(30 amp only) RV spots(for$35/night) Also saw camper vans there too. It’s right off the road so there are road noises, as well as noise from neighboring businesses and trains. 

  The owner Toni and her daughter have put so much time and energy into building this place, and their love of all things vintage shows. Toni will tell you the history of the trailers and busses on site, including a 1970’s rock n roll tour bus and a trailer that the Dead are said to have used for travel while on tour. Vintage electric car and a car called Wedge and looks as the name implies. There is one washer and one dryer available for use, as well as a bathtub/shower, kitchen, and a hangout room with TV, music, and a free table arcade game with multiple 80s video games to choose from.

  The motel rooms are available for rent as well, though when we stayed there in our RV all the rooms were occupied by a film crew and the artist in residence. We asked about tent sites and the owner seemed willing to work with guests on that, though we didn’t see a good spot where tents would go.

  There is also a chicken coop and a small garden! You may get lucky and get some fresh eggs in the morning.

  Caballo Loco Ranch and RV Park

  RV locos in the boonies!

  Interesting RV park in some rugged desert foothills. Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly spots. Some are full hookups, some are dry camping. Community center, trash dumpsters, washroom showers, central fresh water spigots for the dry campers. Seems to be an interesting community of folks that return year after year. Staff was very friendly even to those that showed up without a reservation or prior notice. They found us a spot for a couple nites per our needs. Cell signal is poor for TMobile and Verizon, slightly better with ATT. RV area is rolling ridges and steep sections, this is not a flat RV park. The access road from paved hwy was 7.9 miles of washboard sandy dusty dirt so be warned. Additional thoughts are that the short-term options are limited, there is a very large ranch generator that runs 6am to 10 pm every day, and did I mention the 8 mi of dusty washboard sandy road makes quick trips to town uninviting. Hence the 4 stars.

  Cactus Country RV Park - 55+

  Not bad but…

  Convenient location just off I-10. Had some great sunsets. Park facilities are clean but a little run down. It’s more of a mobile home park and RV park combined. Some permanent stationary mobile homes and some RV spots with lots of yard stuff that makes it look somewhat junky. Pull through sites are very close together but level enough with gravel and a patio pad with table and fire pit. Dog park is all dirt but large with fresh water. Laundry is $1.75 for a large load both washing and drying. Propane fill available. Workout room was minimal but kept cool. Cactus garden was nice.

  Base for visiting Tucson

  Great place to stay for visiting Tucson and surrounding area. We stayed for a week while visiting Saguaro NP. Cheap with full hook ups. Busy location as they hold rodeos and horse events regularly.

  Patagonia Lake State Park Campground

  Lush lake near Coronado National Forest & Sonoita Creek State Park

  Lovely blue water that makes an oasis of green around its edges with rolling hills. Various water activities (rentals on-site), swimming, and fishing are popular. Nice easy trails on site and many choices in other nearby state and federal lands. Great birding, check the migration schedules. Lots of neat wildlife including little lizards. Incredible stargazing. Find any hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant in the area for some of the best food of your life.

  There are a lot of camping options, from backcountry/primitive to RV hookup. Make a reservation if you can. Varying shade. Good basic amenities and very clean (like all AZ State Park sites I've visited). Not too crowded for camping but the day-use water areas can get pretty hectic. Overall a lovely site that's a nice lush change of pace from the AZ desert.

  Best Campsites for Snowbirds In Arizona

  When spending time on the road many times you will find campsite after campsite that is welcoming but not quite like home away from home. But when you drive through Tucson, there is a mecca filled with winter bird campers and long term campers which create a home away from home.

  With only tent sites available on the facility, we were fortunate to find a site, however when we arrived we were so excited by the facilities we extended our stay by a day.

  Office staff immediately greeted us and let us know about the facilities, which happened to feature a mini golf course, an indoor events facility, 2 swimming pools and hot tubs, an indoor recreation area and multiple on camp fire chinineas. In addition there was a fishing pond and dog park area.

  Each of the 4 campsites were considered to be regular campsites instead of upgrade sites but when we arrived it was the most delux sites we had encountered along the way.

  Pad sites were large and the first to actually accommodate our large tent and the ground was u like any we had seen before at a site. The soft mulch was similar to that of a modern day playground and made for a much more comfortable sleep over the two days we were there.

  In addition to the standard picnic table of most facilities, this campground offered a kitchen facility at each campsite including a large copper sink and food storage as well as electricity and overhead lighting in the pergola designed to allow shade from the harsh Arizona sun.

  It was the closest thing to glamping we had encountered by far!

  Then as an added bonus, fresh fruit trees abounded ready for the picking. The front desk informed us of the allowance to pick what you want as everything was in season! An amazing treat on the road!

  We spent many hours at the pool facility, enjoyed amazing neighbors, used the wifi and even did a load of laundry while in Tucson. The facility really was like a home away from home on the road.

  If the scale went higher we would rank it more Bunnies. There were no real areas we could see for improvement. Staff was very accommodating, long term and short term residents of the facility were amazing and this was a desert oasis like no other!

  Casino Del Sol

  Brand new with every amenity

  This is a must stop in Tucson. The RV park is next to the casino. The park is gated, and it has all the amenities needed for a complete stay plus gambling.

  The cost is $50 a night for either a back-end or a pull thru spot. There is 24/7 security, and impeccably clean laundry room with folding tables for $1.75 a load (credit card only), clean shower room, full hookups, and a most excellent hot tub with ADA chair lift access.

  The casino has a number of restaurants. I highly recommend the Asian restaurants happiness hour which is all day before 7:00 p.m. they have lots of appetizers and drinks specials. The decor there and in the rest of the casino is delightful. This is truly the best tribal land Casino I have ever seen.

  Rincon Country West RV Resort

  Decent location. Friendly folks and everything worked great.

  Most of Rincon Country West RV Resort is really for folks who are living them permanently or seasonally in their park model homes. Only in the far back corner is there really parking for JUST RVs.(Although even that"back corner" is probably home to well over 100 spaces.) So it feels like driving through a miniature suburban subdivision. It's location is in the heart of Tucson, so there's NO feeling of"getting away from it all" by staying here. In fact, your hear planes, helicopters& traffic. It's a city. But for us, spending 5 days exploring the area, it was a fairly central jumping off point for our explorations.

  We had a"deluxe" pull-through site, which got us a nice patch of grass, a charcoal grill, a picnic table, good water pressure, clean electricity and a site with two different dump spots. There was cable TV available and wifi, but we just used my Verizon hotspot for streaming some Netflix and that worked great. We were close to our neighbors, but not TOO close. The more "normal" spaces near us would have put you in much closer proximity to your neighbors. For us, it was worth the extra$5 or so per day. (Having said that, the place really is pretty pricey.$70 per day is near the top of what we've paid.) 

  The place has many amenities, none of which we availed ourselves of. We were really only there in the evenings and for sleeping. But pools, sports courts of all kinds, several nice dog parks, rec center, auditorium, etc. etc. I would think someone longterm would find lots to do. The security here is pretty stringent, which is nice. We'd certainly stay here again.

  Patagonia Lake State Park Campground

  Beautiful lake campground, with great views of the lake.

  Patagonia Lake Campground is well maintained. Very busy in the Winter months so you must make reservations well in advance. The visitor center is great if you have children, they have all kinds of activities for kids, and a junior ranger program. The RV spots are full hookups no sewer but there is dump station there on the premises. They have tent camping right by the lake as well. Cabins will be completed in October 2018. Staff very friendly and the grounds are well maintained. One of our favorites.

  Tucson - Lazydays KOA

  Enjoyed it here

  Nice RV resort, pool, hot tub, gym, laundry, playgrounds, and a rib restaurant on site. Some sites had hammocks, a few had private dog "parks" (approximately 3' aluminum fencing with chicken wire attached on inside of fence to prevent escapes), some had fire chimneys built into the site, they also had a row of solar panels raised high enough above the site to provide shade when parking under them. The sites have decorative rock, concrete pad and usually a nice round metal table with 4 matching chairs or a higher table with 4 chairs. My site, as did a lot of others, had flowing fruit trees, other sites had different types of beautiful trees. The hook ups were easy to see, easy to access and we're illuminated at night. In the evening they have life entertainment and beautiful fire bowls situated around adirondack chairs at the pool area. Very pleasant atmosphere. There's a mail room, a gift shop and valet trash pickup at your site. A gate guard is either on duty or the front office will buzz you in. I enjoyed their landscaping since it was so different that what I see at home. I fell in love with the barrel cactus so much so that I picked one up to take home with me from a near by garden store only to find out that don't grow in my home state of Florida. (Probably why I have never seen one before.) Not wanting it to die I donated it to the park where they assured me it would be planted and enjoyed. The park is very clean and we'll maintained. The employees friendly and helpful. This was a great park. I look forward to returning one day.

  Tucson - Lazydays KOA

  Overnight stay

  Big RV parking lot. Amenities you'd expect at a KOA park. Clean. Surrounding area kinda blah. Can hear highway noise. Onsite restaurant not great. BBQ tasted like it came from Sysco. Beans and potato salad were decent. Bar at restaurant. Staff friendly. Big rig friendly.

  Tucson Mountain RV Park

  Great Escape

  Joined a friend for a weekend in the RV park. It was dark when I arrived and can only see the outlines of mountains from the moonlight. Awoke to absolute beauty! Saguaros sprinkled throughout the grounds. The grounds are well kept as well as restrooms. It was my friends RV so I don’t know much about the reservation procedures but had electric hookup and maybe water. The campgrounds are tucked away in the mountain and a bit of a drive into Tucson but the site is so worth the remoteness. Great location to unwind and recharge. Short distance from Desert Museum.

  Great park at a great value

  Like most I’ve seen in this area, this RV park is pretty much a large gravel parking lot. Sites are level FHU and large enough to park tow vehicle or toad along side your RV. The great advantage of this place is the cost of $35 a day. FCFS, no reservations Park is frequently busy with events, rodeos, etc, which may limit access to some amenities. Drag strip next door may add sweet but brief engine noise

  Possibly my favorite ever

  We’ve camped a lot and been to tons of state and national parks us RV parks. This one is probably my favorite of anywhere we have been. The sites for the most part are private and large and level. Lots of access to water. Bathrooms are clean (if you’re using them during Covid) and a dishwashing station. Most folks are masked which I appreciate too. Very quiet and very clean. Front office staff is helpful and efficient. There is also a little lending library and a bird game spot. Easy access to the NP. Would definitely stay again.

  Justin's Diamond J RV Park

  Nice clean quiet well kept RV Park

  We stayed there for a week in February 2022 visiting family and friends, and exploring the attractions of the area.

  Justin’s is a busy place and office staff were almost always on the phone trying to arrange nights of availability or help the travelers any way that they could. When we called they could accommodate us but we ended up in 3 different spots over our week’s stay as there were reservations for the spots that they needed to honor. For us it wasn’t a big deal as we were in a 31’ Minihome. When no space was available I overheard them offering free dry camping until a spot opened up. The business has a very capable and customer focused staff.

  The RV Park is clean and capably run. We really enjoyed our stay there and we would return again.

  An interesting feature of the Park is that it has walking trails that lead to the Saguaro National Park, but the area around the RV Park is rich with the native plants of the area all on its own. If you travel through Tucson, Saguaro National Park’s Desert Museum is a recommended place to go.

  Justin's Diamond J doesn't allow credit card payment and doesn't have online reservations. It's adult only and had a bunch of restrictions. No use of washers/dryers in RVs, no streaming/skyping, no electric heaters. Breed restrictions on pets. See photo for brochure. There are pickleball/tennis courts, a dog area, horse shoes and bocce ball. Sites are full hookup. Premium sites offer better views and have more privacy.

  Snyder Hill BLM Camping Area

  Gets busy

  There are multiple entrances along Old Ajo and S San Joaquin. The best we found has 2 large dips. Some have quite a few more or really deep ones. If coming in with a lower ground clearance vehicle, or a longer one that may bottom out you might want to scout them out first. Once inside the camping area there are lots of spots to choose from. The smaller and more nimble the vehicle gives more choices. There is a mix of local transients, that sleep in tents and small RVs as well as travelers. These sites offer a good amount of privacy from the hwy and roads but depending on the site within there may not be much privacy. Further east on Old Ajo just east of S Camino Verde is another site that travelers with larger rigs seen to prefer. However, there isn't much privacy at all from neighbors, hwy 86 or Old Ajo. Access is flatter though. No water, electricity, or dump. For $15 you can dump and fill at right on San Joaquin at Justin's RV park or there are free options in town (20 minute drive). Signs day 14 day stay. It doesn't appear to be currently enforced but a BLM official does drive through occasionally. We didn't see him stop to speak to any campers.

  Patagonia Lake State Park Campground

  Least favorite state park

  This has been our least favorite campsite in the Arizona State Park system so far in our travels. We shortened our trip and headed home early because it just wasn’t for us. I’ve listed pros and cons below, but to give you an idea of our camping style, we are a family with young children and a dog. We head out in our 24ft trailer at least once a month for a long weekend totally immersed in nature.

  Pros: -Close to Tucson -beautiful drive (topography and scenery) -although we didn’t partake due to covid there is a nature center & gift shop, market, boat rentals, and a ranger stations -primitive cabins with a great view -water and electric and on site dump station -bird viewing seemed awesome if that’s your thing. We aren’t birders, but thoroughly enjoyed the variety of birds in this area. -Junior Ranger program with fun prizes... posters and wooden badges. Although the rangers didn’t seem interested in engaging with the kids and just tossed them the prizes.

  Cons: -the campground was not clean at all. Dog poop was everywhere and litter was strewn all over the campground. Our site alone was full of bits of broken plastic, paper, dog poop, and cigarette buds. It was disheartening that neither the rangers nor the campers take pride in this campground. We did our best to leave our site much cleaner than we found it. -while the sites are more spacious than an RV park, they are not as spacious as nearby karchner or roper lake. There is not any privacy. -many sites are not level. Our parking spot was level but nothing else. Leaving us without a great spot to put our chairs and table. -the traffic is non stop. Even up until midnight we had trucks driving through the campground. (This may have been campers or Border Patrol as we saw them driving through every couple of hours) -there is a lot of day use foot traffic through the campground. Between that and full campsites, we didn’t particularly feel safe outside of our campsite in terms of covid. Very few were wearing masks in congested areas.

  With that being said, we will not be returning to this campground.
