    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

What campers like

Practical layouts: Many campers appreciate the straightforward setup at Sunset RV in Cottondale. "Stayed for one night. Well maintained, level sites. Easy on and off the freeway. Very basic and clean," explains one traveler who valued the simplicity for overnight stays.

Seasonal flexibility: Most Shannon-area campgrounds operate year-round. "We were here during winter, so there wasn't a lot going on. This is a nice campground that is adding a lot of new sites," notes a winter visitor at Hidden Cove, highlighting the availability of camping options regardless of season.

Budget-friendly options: Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park offers competitive rates with added value. "Costs $37 a night, and includes free game play at the casino. Paved sites with 50Amp FHU," reports a camper who found the price reasonable for the amenities provided.

What you should know

Site preparation: Terrain varies between campgrounds, affecting leveling requirements. At Wind Creek, "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches."

Extended stay demographics: Many campgrounds have a mix of travelers and permanent residents. At Safe Harbor RV Park, "Seems to be lots and lots of permanent residents there and just a few travelers coming and going," making it more residential than vacation-oriented.

Connectivity challenges: Cell service and internet access vary significantly. At Hidden Cove, "Wifi weak cel signal weak," while another camper reported "I had no reception with Verizon but my AT&T hotspot had good reception," suggesting multiple carrier options are helpful.

Educational opportunities: Incorporate local learning experiences into your trip. Near Hidden Cove, one camper recommends specific attractions: "You must check out the nature bridge nearby as well as the Houston jail," providing educational value alongside outdoor recreation.

Tips from RVers

Satellite placement: The lack of tree cover at some locations affects setup. At Sunset RV, one camper described it as "a no frills parking lot with full hookups. No trees, no playground, no pool," making it ideal for satellite reception but offering little shade.

Utility management: Full hookup reliability varies by park. At Safe Harbor, campers reported "no issues with the water/sewer/electric" despite limited amenities, while Sunset RV offers "Gravel spots with a concrete slab in front."

Emergency accommodations: During severe weather events, some parks offer special arrangements. At Hoover Met Complex RV Park, one visitor noted they were "opening up the campground to campers fleeing the storm without having to pay," demonstrating community support during hurricane evacuations.
