Best Campgrounds near Andalusia, AL

Southern Alabama's lake country surrounding Andalusia features multiple waterfront camping options within a 30-mile radius. Frank Jackson State Park Campground in nearby Opp provides year-round lakeside sites with full hookups, while Point A Park Campground offers 28 sites directly on the water with both RV and tent camping options. The Oaks Family RV Park & Campground provides a more manicured setting with concrete pads and modern amenities. For those seeking a more rustic experience, Open Pond Recreation Area in the Conecuh National Forest offers primitive camping with basic facilities. Florala City Park, situated on the Alabama-Florida state line, rounds out the options with lakefront sites and walking paths connecting to the small town.

Most campgrounds in the region require advance reservations, particularly for weekend stays and during fishing tournament seasons. The subtropical climate means hot, humid summers with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and mild winters that rarely see freezing temperatures. Cell service varies significantly between developed and primitive sites, with Frank Jackson and Point A Park reporting reliable coverage for major carriers. As one camper noted, "Point A Campground has very nice camp hosts and clean bath houses. We had full hookups, wifi, cable, a fire pit, and a nice concrete picnic table." Many campgrounds accept only cash or check payment, and additional fees beyond the base rate are common, including reservation fees and lodging taxes that can increase costs by 15-20%.

Lakefront sites consistently receive the highest ratings from visitors, with many campers highlighting sunset views and easy water access. According to one review of Frank Jackson State Park, "Most sites are located on the lake and have short stairs down to the lake. The sites have spaced out trees perfect for hammocks." Fishing is a primary activity, with lakes stocked with bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. Boating and swimming are popular during summer months, though swimmers should note that alligator warnings are posted at many swimming areas. Hiking trails are typically short loops rather than extensive networks, with boardwalks and island trails at Frank Jackson State Park being particularly noted by visitors. Clean facilities and well-maintained grounds are consistently mentioned in positive reviews across multiple campgrounds in the area.

    Open Pond Campground

    Open Pond

The campground is nicely maintained. The bath houses are not the cleanest, but not anywhere near the worst I have seen. But definitely not Buc-ee’s level. LOL But for $16 a day and an hour from Destin you can’t beat that. You can fish the pond (large) for catfish, brim, bass, and one other I don’t remember. Hiking trails are kept in great condition with the exception of a couple of spots. Blue Springs is a short hike and is crystal clear and cool to swim in. RVs can stay in C and D loops.

The Oaks Family RV Park & Campground

    Didn’t stay but rode through

I was in the area and rode through very nice quite campground. Talked to the on duty person and was really friendly. It also has a pool and plenty of cabins, bath house and laundry cabin. Doesn’t have double sites but has concrete pad and are close enough to beside each other. Overall 9 out of 10 in my book

    Wilderness Landing

    Nice little campground.

It's not on the big side of campgrounds but still has some of the amenities. No hookups at the campsites but there is running water (hot and cold) in the bath house with flushing toilets. Power outlets in the bath house as well. It is located right on the Blackwater River and has a boat launch and two pavilions with tables and barbeque grills right on the beach. The river is sand bottom and fairly clear. My big ol' malamute "Stealie" loves the river! The best part is it's FREE! For up to 14 days.

    Deer Run RV Park

    Good Stop Over

Our GPS led us directly to the campground (CG) on US-231, conveniently located on the west side of Troy, AL. Check-in was quick and hassle-free. We stayed at site 60, which featured full hookups (FHUs) and a level cement pad with well-positioned utilities. Water pressure was high, so we used a reducer. The CG offers WiFi, but we couldn’t locate the guest network during our overnight stay. This wasn’t an issue, as we relied on our Starlink and T-Mobile home internet, which performed well despite just one bar on our phone. Verizon reception was also solid at three bars. The CG provides cable, which we didn’t use, but our camping friends in site 59 confirmed it worked well. The older section of the CG is shaded with mature trees, while the newer area has fewer, making it ideal for satellite users. Compared to our last visit a few years ago, the only noticeable upgrade was the addition of tiny houses near the office. The CG remains clean and well-maintained. One downside was the heavy traffic at our site from long-term residents returning from work, many of whom didn’t observe the speed limit. Deer Run also offers water and electric sites in the newer back section, which we plan to request for future short stays.

    Bear Lake Campground

    Wonderful camping

Small campground with limited sites. Sites are close together but waterfront sites have extended area behind the site. Weekends and holidays are busy. Be careful when backing into the site since the exterior sites have significant slope to the parking pad. Electric and water service is 10 feet beyond the pad. Clean bathrooms are a quick walk away. No Verizon cellular service. Family and pet friendly.
