    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Oak Mountain State Park Campground

    Updates please

At the regular campground, there’s only 30amp connections. Some have sewer and some not. There is no camp wifi. Swimming is quit a distance from campground.

The campground at the stables are pull through and 50 amp and full hookups.

    Sunset RV

    Bright light and road noise

Stopped for an overnight on our way home to Atlanta from a trip out west. Not much of a park. Most sites are long term or semi permanent. Only 6 available for regular RV. Water, 30/50 amp electric & sewer There is a small laundry room The office wasn’t open but we had reservations and had received an email about our site and directions. WiFi was poor. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area. There is a small dog walking area.

Kid-friendly activities: Sports complexes and playgrounds enhance family stays. "Next to huge water park/splash pad - was a ton of fun for the kids," reports a visitor to Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

What campers like

Value for overnight stays: Sunset RV offers economical stays without unnecessary frills. "This is a very nice place for an overnight stay. If your looking for amenities, this is not the place for you. Clean, nice management, easy in and out... Full hook ups, including water sewer, electric and cable for $29/a night."

Dog-friendly facilities: Bama RV Station provides multiple spaces for pets. "Quiet campground with 3 dog parks level lots. Numerous sewer as well as non sewer lots," writes one camper.

Easy navigation: Sites designed for simple access appeal to travelers. "Easy to navigate in and out of each site," mentions a review about Hoover Met Complex RV Park, while another notes about Sunset RV that it offers "level blacktop site[s] that had sewer, water, cable and electricity."

What you should know

Limited amenities at budget options: Many sites prioritize hookups over extras. "No trees, no playground, no pool, no picnic table, no fire ring. There are 2 parking areas. The first area has the office, laundry and bathroom," a reviewer shares about Sunset RV.

Road noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some locations. "It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area," notes a Sunset RV visitor.

Site spacing variations: Birmingham South RV Park and others have tight configurations. "The sites are very small and your neighbors sewer hookups happen to be about 3 feet from your site's picnic table."

Tips for camping with families

Recreational options: Focus on parks with built-in activities. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," shares a visitor to Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Weather preparation: Summer heat requires cooling solutions. Temperatures frequently exceed 90°F with high humidity from June through September, making air conditioning essential for family comfort.

Entertainment alternatives: Rolling Hills RV Park offers spacious sites for family setups. "There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites)," which provides room for outdoor family activities.

Tips from RVers

Levelness considerations: Despite paved surfaces, some sites require adjustment. At Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park, "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches."

Pull-through advantages: Many parks accommodate connected vehicles. "We had a pull through spot so we didn't have to disconnect our tow dolly. Gravel site was fairly level despite being in a hilly area," explains a Rolling Hills RV Park visitor.

Short-term vs. long-term considerations: Some parks better suit specific visit durations. "Nice open sites and easy to access your site. Basically an RV park. All very big class A motor homes. No public bathrooms just a couple construction potties. Full hookups on most sites so it's very doable for a couple of nights," notes a Coaches Corner RV Park camper.
