    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

Guide to Pelham

RV sites near Pelham, Alabama provide camping options within 30 miles of Birmingham's southern suburbs. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains at elevations ranging from 400-600 feet, the area experiences mild winters and humid summers with average July temperatures of 90°F. Most campgrounds in this region remain open year-round with varying seasonal rates between $30-50 per night for full hookup sites.

What to do

Brewery visits within walking distance: The Hoover Met Complex RV Park offers more than just a place to park your rig. "In addition to the Hoover Met sports complex and sports arena there is a new brewery within walking distance of the campground," notes Ryan P. The campground's location provides convenient urban recreation without driving.

Water recreation at nearby lakes: At Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina, camping puts you directly on Logan Martin Lake. "Great fishing!!!" reports Karin L. The property includes boat docks and water access, making it ideal for fishing enthusiasts. Larry L. adds, "Very well maintained RV park. Store and gas station on site."

Explore local sports facilities: The Hoover Met Complex includes athletic facilities open to visitors. "Next to huge sports complex (convenient for sporting events). Next to huge water park/splash pad - was a ton of fun for the kids," shares Paul C. about the amenities surrounding the RV park.

What campers like

Level sites for easy setup: Birmingham South RV Park receives consistent praise for its accessibility. "We had a 50amp pull through site. It was very level and we didn't even unhook from the truck!" reports Beth H. This makes it particularly convenient for overnight travelers not wanting to fully set up camp.

Security features: Campers appreciate the safety measures at certain parks. "This was a very secure campground with a lot of amenities," notes Chris S. about Birmingham South RV Park. Similarly, at Sunset RV, Shilo B. mentions, "I feel safe here!" - an important consideration when choosing campgrounds near urban areas.

Convenient shopping access: Many parks offer proximity to supplies and stores. "There is a Home Depot a few hundred feet from the entrance," reports Michael O. about Birmingham South RV Park. This accessibility to retail makes these locations practical for campers needing to restock or make repairs.

What you should know

Site spacing and privacy varies: Birmingham South offers traditional campground layouts while other parks provide more basic accommodations. At Safe Harbor RV Park, "Spaces are long and level. No extras, no picnic tables, no shower houses," explains Becky P. Many properties feature closely spaced sites with limited natural barriers.

Seasonal crowding during events: Sporting events impact availability at certain campgrounds. "Hurricane Ian sent a multitude of people fleeing from Florida that were now headed to the Hoover Met RV," shares Pamela B., demonstrating how weather events or tournaments can quickly fill parks to capacity.

Road and railroad noise: Several campgrounds sit near transportation corridors. Joel R. notes about Sunset RV: "It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer recreational facilities for children. "They had no contact check in. The pool was open and they had a nice play area for the kids," mentions Beth H. about Birmingham South RV Park, highlighting amenities that keep younger campers entertained.

Water features for hot days: Summer temperatures make water access important. At Joyland RV Park, "Gravel pull ins with grass area in between and ponds all around" create natural water features as described by reviewer K.

Pet considerations: Many campgrounds allow pets but have varying policies. "There's little to no control over everyone's dogs. The best you can get is that they are leashed, otherwise, lunging at people or other dogs and barking all throughout the day is completely permitted," warns Stacy W. about Birmingham South - important information for families with or without pets.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Despite concrete or paved sites, leveling may still be necessary. David S. from Rolling Hills RV Park reports: "Gravel site was fairly level despite being in a hilly area. There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites)."

Utility hookup quality: Full hookup reliability varies between parks. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available," notes Chris G. At Birmingham South, however, Patrick P. cautions: "Nice place, but the internet doesn't work, bathrooms clean."

Overnight parking strategies: For travelers just passing through, several parks offer efficient options. "We stayed one night, easy to find, close to the interstate, clean. They had no contact check in," shares Beth H., describing how Birmingham South accommodates quick overnight stops without full check-in procedures.
