      Time Away RV Resort

      Very nice campground

This is a really nice RV park that provides close access to the racetrack. It is wonderfully taken care of and has recently been renovated. They have a playground and several covered areas for picnics and group gatherings. A key bonus to this site is the pool which is very necessary when camping in Alabama in the summer. Overall, I would definitely suggest checking this campground out as an option if you are headed to a race and coming for the weekend.

      Oak Mountain State Park Campground

      One of my favorites

This park and campground is one of my favorites for sure. The park is full of things to do such as hiking, horseback riding, a petting zoo, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, bicycling, etc. The campsites are awesome with both primitive and powered sites. The one I stayed at was close to a small lake in a good shaded area and plenty of good trees to tie up a hammock. Campers beware do not leave any food in totes outside of your camper or tent the squirrels will chew a hole in the lid trying to get to the food lol... The bathhouses are nice and plenty located throughout the campground. Due to covid-19 you may want to check in with the front office and see what activities are available before booking. When I went it was at the early stages and even then some of the activities were closed. 200 Terrace Dr, Pelham, AL 35124

      Peach Queen Campground

      Great campground with friendly staff

The staff here is wonderful. They've helped us adjust to full time RV Life over that past 4 months. The residents here are very friendly as well.

They have a dog park at the front and a large field in the back door our dog to run and play. The pavilion is also great for getting out, even in rainy weather.

The pool is amazing. Plenty of chairs and umbrellas to rest and our kids love the slide.

      Bama RV Station

      Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

      GrandStand RV Park

      Really nice RV Campground

This is a really great option super close to the racetrack. The facilities are really nice and the staff takes great care of the space. They even have a dog run to let your pets run around. I don't know if it would be my first choice if I were tent camping but with an RV it is a wonderful place to stay.

      Oak Mountain State Park Campground

      Fun for the whole family

Oak mountain state park has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. There's so much to do; and its always growing. It's the largest state park in Alabama. Theres lakes, waterfalls, nature trails, basket ball court, volley ball, a petting zoo, horses back riding, water sports, dirt bikes trails, BMX course, archery, cabins, primitive camping and rv's , a beach, a wildlife rescue center and so much more. If you're in the area do yourself a favor and check it out.

      Oak Mountain State Park Campground

      Great Campground Near I-65

lots of trails. Upgraded sites, new bathhouse, pet friendly, full hook up at some sites. It’s site A09 the site sloped downward, which caused the trailers sewer connection to be lower than the dump site. As far enough away from the interstate that you don’t hear the road noise you’re surrounded by woods and hills. Will stay here again.

    Guide to Pelham

Oak Mountain State Park offers over 50 miles of trails for pet-friendly day hikes in woodland settings near Pelham, Alabama. The park's mountainous terrain features elevation changes from 600 to 1,260 feet above sea level, creating varied camping environments. Campgrounds in the area typically remain open year-round with seasonal weather patterns featuring humid summers and mild winters.

    What to do

Mountain biking trails: Oak Mountain State Park provides dedicated mountain biking paths with various difficulty levels for visitors who bring their own bikes. The trails offer both technical sections and beginner-friendly routes throughout the park's diverse terrain. According to Soren B., "This place has everything, mtn bike, gravel bike, trail running, road running, road biking, golf, equestrian, sailing and fishing."

Historical exploration: Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park Campground features numerous historical buildings including an old mill, furnace, and blacksmith shop. The park combines outdoor recreation with educational opportunities about Alabama's industrial past. One visitor noted, "We stayed at Tannehill for our 12th anniversary. It was Flea Market weekend, also. The museum there is very interesting and educational."

Water activities: Several camping destinations near Pelham include lakes and water features suitable for fishing, boating and cooling off. At Oak Mountain Backcountry Site, campers can access water recreation options. "I've been going here since I was a kid and it's one of my favorite places in the world. You'll never run out of things to do between the endless hiking trails, the museum of wildlife, and the wildlife rescue center," shares Cat.

    What campers like

Updated facilities: Oak Mountain State Park Campground has undergone significant renovations to improve camping experiences. The modernized spaces provide better comfort for overnight stays while maintaining natural surroundings. "They put a massive amount of money into updating this place. This is the #1 best state park campground I have ever been at," writes Soren B., highlighting the value of these improvements.

Convenient locations: Campers appreciate the accessibility of camping options like Hoover Met Complex RV Park, which provides easy access to urban amenities while maintaining outdoor camping experiences. "Easy to find and super easy to park. Very clean and easy hookups. All lots are pull through and asphalt," notes Millibeth R., emphasizing the convenience factor for travelers.

Trade Days events: Monthly vendor markets at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park draw camping enthusiasts seeking unique shopping experiences. These popular events feature hundreds of vendors selling crafts, antiques, and local goods. Paige M. shares, "We're craft vendors at Tannehill Trade Days March-November and we've started camping out there every month. My grandkids absolutely love it. They ride their bikes, play in the creek, and eat great ice cream from the creamery!"

    What you should know

No-reservation campgrounds: Some parks in the area operate on a first-come, first-served basis rather than reservation systems. Mary G. explains about Brierfield Ironworks Historical Park: "We only stayed one night. Large campground, broken into 3 areas. Lots of camp sites and cabins too. Campground was wooded, clean and had all the amenities you could need."

Seasonal considerations: Summer temperatures in the Pelham area regularly exceed 90°F between June and September, making water access important for comfort. Many campsites become more crowded during spring and fall when temperatures moderate to 60-80°F range. Nicole K. notes about Tannehill, "We paid $25 that included electric hookup, bath house with showers, water on site, and a dump station. I believe you can pay another $5 for sewage on site."

Campground layouts: Some campgrounds like Birmingham South RV Park feature closely spaced sites without much privacy, while others offer more secluded options. According to Stacy W., "The sites are very small and your neighbors sewer hookups happen to be about 3 feet from your site's picnic table."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated play areas and recreational facilities designed specifically for children. Chilton County Minooka Park offers family-friendly options. Chris B. explains, "Minooka is a really fun place. They just added several TV hookups and have an almost new bath house with large showers. The playground is also small but nice."

Educational opportunities: Several parks near Pelham feature wildlife centers, museums, and historical exhibits that provide learning experiences for children. These facilities offer hands-on activities and guided programs during peak seasons. "Oak Mountain is a big state park with lots to do (golf, biking, archery, lots of trails that are very well marked, petting zoo, very neat trail with rescued owls, turkeys and red hawks, and more)," shares Scott C.

Swimming options: Many campgrounds feature swimming areas that provide supervised water recreation for families with children. These designated swimming zones typically operate during summer months with some charging small additional fees. Maureen L. shares her experience: "So clean. Shower house and bathrooms clean and big. Gorgeous views. Lots of things to do in the park."

    Tips from RVers

Pull-through accessibility: Many RV-friendly campgrounds near Pelham feature pull-through sites that eliminate the need to disconnect tow vehicles for overnight stays. Beth H. notes about Birmingham South RV Park: "We had a 50amp pull through site. It was very level and we didn't even unhook from the truck! We stayed one night, easy to find, close to the interstate, clean."

Leveling challenges: Some campgrounds in the area feature uneven terrain that may require additional leveling equipment. Chris S. observed about Hoover Met Complex RV Park: "The pads are very uneven and there are just not many amenities. Very close to sports fields though."

Hookup availability: Different campgrounds offer varying levels of hookup options from basic electric to full service connections. This affects pricing and convenience for RV campers with larger vehicles. Morgan H. shares about Hoover Met Complex: "Great staff. Excellent wifi. Easy pull through, paved lot.
