Best RV Parks & Resorts near Moundville, AL

Several RV parks operate within a 30-mile radius of Moundville, Alabama, offering full hookup services. Sunset RV in Cottondale provides level sites with water, sewer, electric, and cable connections for $29-45 per night on gravel spots with concrete pads. "Clean, nice management, easy in and out. Full hook ups, including water sewer, electric and cable for $29/a night," noted one camper about Sunset RV. Bama RV Station features both water/electric and full hookup sites, with three designated dog parks and level gravel sites. Coaches Corner RV Park, located less than a mile from the University of Alabama campus, has gravel sites with full hookups especially popular during football season.

Most RV parks in the area cater to overnight travelers and gameday visitors rather than extended stays. While Sunset RV maintains bathroom and laundry facilities, some parks like Coaches Corner offer only portable toilets rather than permanent restrooms. Highway noise affects several properties, particularly those adjacent to Interstate 20. Winter availability remains consistent with most parks operating year-round, though fall football weekends see dramatically higher occupancy rates. Dump stations are limited at some locations, with reviews noting that Bama RV Station provides two stations while other properties have sewer hookups at individual sites. Cell service generally remains strong throughout the region, with most parks situated close to major highways for convenient access.

    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Sunset RV

    Bright light and road noise

Stopped for an overnight on our way home to Atlanta from a trip out west. Not much of a park. Most sites are long term or semi permanent. Only 6 available for regular RV. Water, 30/50 amp electric & sewer There is a small laundry room The office wasn’t open but we had reservations and had received an email about our site and directions. WiFi was poor. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area. There is a small dog walking area.

    Moundville Archaeological Park

Great campground with lots of history

This is a great campground managed by the University of Alabama. It is on the site of the Moundville Indian mound complex, from the Mississippian period.

There are several camp sites, most with electric and water, some have sewer. There is a central bath house, which is closed in winter. However the campground is open all year. There is a dump station as well.

The museum is very interesting and the park offers several events throughout the year based on Native American culture.

Moundville Archaeological Park Univ of Alabama

I love this place. If you are into ancient Indian mounds and seeing the artifacts they have collected this is a place you want to visit.

Small well appointed museum to see. Information panels at the important mounds. Since we visited last year some improvements have been made to the camp sites. Level sites. 4 pull through with full hook ups for bigger rigs. This is a small campground, all sites have water and electricity with dump site as you leave camping area. Also much needed improvements to bath house.

Guide to Moundville

RV parks near Moundville, Alabama typically experience four distinct seasons with mild winters averaging 40-50°F and humid summers reaching 90-95°F. The Black Warrior River borders the western edge of the region, creating additional camping opportunities and recreational water access. Most RV campgrounds in this area sit on relatively flat terrain between 150-300 feet above sea level.

What to do

Visit Moundville Archaeological Park: Located just minutes from nearby campgrounds, this 326-acre park preserves 29 massive prehistoric Native American mounds. "This is a very nice place for an overnight stay. If your looking for amenities, this is not the place for you. I will stay here again," noted a guest at Sunset RV, which provides convenient access to cultural attractions.

Fish at Black Warrior River: The river offers excellent fishing opportunities for bass, catfish, and crappie. "This is pure heaven for me. Out in the middle of cow pastures and rolling hills. It is a paradise for hunting/birddog trainers," explained a visitor at Hat Creek RV Park, which provides rural camping near river access points.

Attend University of Alabama events: Beyond football games, the university hosts cultural events, museums, and performances year-round. "100+ site campground used by RV's during football season sitting less than a mile from campus. Owner lives on property and is extremely helpful," reported one camper about Coaches Corner RV Park.

What campers like

Budget-friendly options: Several parks offer economical stays with basic amenities. "Quiet campground with 3 dog parks level lots. Numerous sewer as well as non sewer lots. Economy camping option in the economy storage area," mentioned a visitor at Bama RV Station, highlighting affordable options.

Pet accommodations: Multiple parks cater specifically to travelers with dogs. "Huge grassy area for the dogs. Great night, very quiet. There are 3 actual RV 'spots' and then about 5 more level concrete pads, if the spots are taken," noted a camper about Wind Creek RV Park.

Easy interstate access: Most parks provide convenient highway access for overnight travelers. "Very nice RV park next to the casino. Easy access off the Interstate. Concrete pads with full hookups, dog run, small bath house and playground for the kids," shared a visitor at Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park.

What you should know

Limited amenities at some parks: Many locations offer basic services rather than resort-style facilities. "Definitely just a no frills parking lot with full hookups. No trees, no playground, no pool, no picnic table, no fire ring," explained a guest at Sunset RV, describing their gravel sites with concrete pads.

Seasonal popularity fluctuations: University events significantly impact availability. "Called day of to book a spot and had no trouble getting one. Park was clean, easy to get through, and had full hookups," reported a camper at Coaches Corner RV Park, noting the ease of booking outside peak periods.

Weather considerations: The region's clay soil can create challenges during rainy periods. "If you come during wet season like I did just be prepared to deal with black silk mud and red clay mud and I mean lots of it," warned a visitor at Hat Creek RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Entertainment options: Some parks offer additional activities for children. "Costs $37 a night, and includes free game play at the casino. Clean restrooms and showers, plus laundry is reasonable at $1.50 per cycle. Small dog run on property is nice," shared a guest about Wind Creek Atmore.

Consider noise levels: Highway proximity can affect sleep quality at certain locations. "There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night," cautioned a visitor at Sunset RV.

Security considerations: Park environments vary significantly. "The grounds were not kept up. Cigarette butts every where in our site along with beer bottle tops. Was not as comfortable as I like to be leaving my wife and children alone there," noted a guest at Candy Mountain RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Check bathhouse locations: Some parks have limited facilities. "No public bathrooms just a couple construction potties. Full hookups on most sites so it's very doable for a couple of nights," mentioned a visitor at Coaches Corner RV Park.

Site leveling requirements: Even paved sites may require adjustments. "While they are paved sites, we found that you do have to level out still by around 3 inches," advised a camper at Wind Creek Atmore Casino RV Park.

Cell service and internet: Connectivity varies between parks. "WiFi was poor. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night," reported a visitor at Sunset RV, noting the connectivity limitations.
