Best RV Parks & Resorts near Florence, AL

Motorhome and RV travelers stop near Florence, Alabama for full-service and partial-service sites. Heritage Acres RV Park in Tuscumbia provides year-round camping with electric hookups, water, and sewer connections on level concrete pads. Tuscumbia RV Park offers big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp service and full hookups, while T's Outback RV Park maintains 51 sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. Northgate RV Travel Park in Athens accommodates large rigs with pull-through sites featuring 20/30/50-amp service. "The concrete pad was within 1/4" of level and even had two sewer connections. Included in the premium site was a nice picnic table and a smaller two person table, fire pit, and nice large marble lighting," noted one Heritage Acres visitor.

While some parks offer luxury amenities like swimming pools and game rooms, others focus on basic services. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with Northgate reporting strong Verizon coverage but limited WiFi options. Most RV parks in the region accept pets but require leashes. Several campgrounds feature pull-through sites that can accommodate rigs over 40 feet, though some parks have narrow interior roads that require careful navigation. According to one visitor at Northgate RV Travel Park, "The pad was plenty long enough for our 40' fifth wheel and F450 plus fairly level. However, if you unhook and leave, you have a long, slightly curved road to back up on to get back in position to hook your rig up unless the site next to you is empty."

    J.P. Coleman State Park Campground

    Narrow sites with killer views

The sites are rather narrow with varying sizes and locations for outdoor living space. Pay close attention to the states website regarding vehicle size maximums. As I walk through the park, it appears that all spots are full hookup and paved. We are on site 43 and anything longer than 30 ft will be pushing it. As it is, our 25ft trailer fits nicely, but the truck is parallel parked across the end of my site in order to be off the road. The picnic table is behind the camper instead of on camp side, which isn’t my favorite setup but we are making due. Some sites have metal fire rings, while others (like ours) have rock circle pits. Some campsites on the hill side have no picnic table OR fire pits. They also have almost no room to walk around the RV without tumbling down the hill. Sites 62 and 64 aren’t terrible, but everything else from 59 and up is pretty bad. 25-34 and 51-54 are short and back up to a a hill. Would be great for Class B or smaller travel trailers. Sites 10-24 are in a separate area from the rest. 35-50 are down on a low flat area near the water and are the best if you like a view of the lake.

Bath house in our loop is clean, not completely out of date, and heated for cold weather camping. There is a small area with 2 set of pay washers/dryers and a few vending machines.

All in all, well worth the State’s $32/night charge.

    Heritage Acres RV Park

    Up and coming RV park!

This RV park was still heavily under construction while we were there. In fact, I believe we were the first people to stay in our spot, a premium pull through. The playground was in the process of being completed and the game room wasn't functional yet but you can tell the owners are investing a lot of time and money!

The concrete pad was within 1/4" of level and even had two sewer connections. Included in the premium site was a nice picnic table and a smaller two person table, fire pit, and nice large marble lighting.

    Northgate Camp Ground

This is a nice off the interstate travel park. Full hook ups. Pull through sights plenty long enough for our 40+ ft. motorhome with tow vehicle. Pull in at night out in the morning. Simple and not fancy. But fits the bill when needing a place with electricity and dump and fill water!

    Green Acres RV Park

    Best RV park in Savannah,TN

This campground is well maintained. The grounds are Meticulously maintained, the staff will do everything possible to make your stay as pleasant as possible. There is a beautiful pool open seasonally, all sites will accommodate large Rigs, with full power (20amp, 30amp, 50amp) service. Sewerage and fresh water. There is strong WiFi and basic cable is included. I’ve camped here a few times now and couldn’t be more happier. This is a pet friendly park, ( Fido, just need to be on a leash and picked up after.) There are showers, bathrooms and 24/7 laundry facilities. So come as strangers, leave as friends.

    All sites are excellent....

    David Crockett State Park Campground

    Amazing Campground!

Stayed at campground 1 site 20 and was very pleased! Very clean and well maintained! We tent camped and I like the concrete pad because didn’t have to worry about things getting wet from the ground. Has a 20 and 30 amp electric hook up and water beside. Nice fire pit and table also! Site 20 is located right beside shoal creek and with in walking distance to the restrooms and bathhouse!

    Joe Wheeler State Park Campground

    Joe Wheeler is open

Basically there are two sections to this park. The newer section is very big rig orientated. Having been rebuilt due to hurricane, wide roomy sites well spaced, but not a tree in site. All sites both old & new are full hook up. The older section is very, very tight and not a one very level. The older section is fully treed, which makes things even tighter.

Good ATT & Verizon cell service. No wifi in campgrounds Not my first choice, bu it worked.

    Northgate RV Travel Park

    Good for Our Needs

Our GPS brought us right into the campground (CG) that is conveniently located off I-65 and US-31. Check in was pleasant and quick. They take cash or check. We were assigned pull through site D-1(water and electric 50/30/20 AMP) behind the office. The advantage of this site, is that it has a yard area as the other sites do not. This is a bare bones CG with no amenities. Most of the sites have FHUs. The pad was plenty long enough for our 40’ fifth wheel and F450 plus fairly level. However, if you unhook and leave, you have a long, slightly curved road to back up on to get back in position to hook your rig up unless the site next to you is empty. The utilities are in the middle of the pad and you can maneuver to suit your needs. Water pressure was good at 50 psi and we got 4 bars on Verizon. There’s no Wifi here but due to this CG being a parking lot, no issues with satellite. Like other reviewers stated, there’s a deep ditch on either side of the driveway when you pull in, so keep an eye on how your rig tracks. This CG filled up the Saturday to Sunday we overnighted and we were assigned one of the few water and electric only sites, but were still charged$45 same as the FHU sites? Overall, this CG worked for our needs.

    Piney Grove

    Lots of Trees

We followed the campground(CG) instructions versus our RV GPS as it wanted to take us down a country road no RV should go on. There was signage where to turn to get to this COE CG as you got close. As this was a Friday and based on our experience going to state parks/COEs at the end of the season when the weather is really nice, we went in early so we could get ahead of the weekend crowd. We were glad we did as after an easy check in at the gate, we proceeded to our loop to site 21 with 50/30 AMP and water. The loops here are a little tight and there are lots of trees so coming in late on a popular weekend could be challenging with trucks, cars, and boats parked about. Site 21 was a bit of a challenge backing our 39' 5th wheel into. There were lots of trees and a little bridge with big drop offs on either side of the road, but we got in without mishap after a few tries. As the afternoon progressed, the locals plus rookie RVers all swarmed in around the same time. We grabbed a beverage and watched the show. This was our first time staying at Piney Grove, but we had come to the area the last three years to get our 5th wheel serviced. The CG was completely full for the weekend. There are quite a few back-ins that would have been much easier. We suggest reading reviews on various websites to find which sites will better fit your rig. The pad lengths on the reservations website seemed to be accurate. In our opinion, the only pull through that would fit a 40’ 5th wheel was site 73. The rest of the pull throughs were the half moon shaped type with too sharp of internal turn and/or trees to deal with. A lot of the sites have some lake view. Sites here are closer together than other COEs we have stayed in. Cell service was spotty with both Verizon and AT&T having two bars. We could text but not receive phone calls(though we did see a few people talking on their phones) and often the internet wouldn’t connect or was too slow to be useful. There are internet hotspots in the CG but we could not get our phones to recognize and/or connect. You get a handful of OTA channels but no major networks. We had to chuckle when several campers here tried and tried to get their satellite dishes to connect. Unless you are maybe near the main road or boat ramp area, doubtful you would get a signal as there are too many trees.  There’s a gas station with a few convenience items as you turn toward the campground on County Rd 3501. Boonville is 20 or so minutes away with all the major amenities to include a Walmart. Tishomingo is closer going the opposite direction, but only has a Dollar General, small grocery store, and gas stations. We would stay here again, but definitely in a different site.

Guide to Florence

Camping opportunities near Florence, Alabama include multiple campgrounds with year-round availability. The region sits at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains with elevations ranging from 400-650 feet above sea level, creating varied terrain for campers. Most RV sites maintain gravel pads with crushed stone foundations to prevent settling during the frequent rainfall that averages 59 inches annually.

What to do

Explore nearby waterways: Visitors at Jay Landings Marina & RV Park can access the Tennessee River directly. "Jays landing has many amenities, full hookups, pool, boat docks, fishing dock and a nice area to gather near the River," notes Gene S.

Visit historic music attractions: The Muscle Shoals area offers significant music history sites near Tuscumbia RV Park. "We traveled to Muscle Shoals to visit all the recording studios and guess what? This campground is just several miles from the Alabama Music Hall of Fame! How perfect was that!" shares Judy R.

Hike local trails: For nature enthusiasts, Bama Campground & RV Park provides convenient access to Bankhead National Forest. "This is a great little campground tucked away on the edge of Bankhead National Forest. The location of the campground makes it an excellent location to enjoy the numerous waterfall hikes in the area," writes Jennifer H.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Campers appreciate the care taken at some rv sites near Florence, Alabama. At Green Acres RV Park, "The grounds are well manicured, the camp spots are spacious, and well spaced so that your neighbor is not on top of you. The avenues are paved, the spaces are crushed stone, well maintained," explains David C.

Friendly management: Personal touches make a difference at smaller campgrounds. At T's Outback RV Park, "The owner was extremely friendly. Gravel road but cement pavements on site. Site is very clean and landscape is well maintained," reports Stephanie R.

Quiet settings: Many campers value peaceful surroundings. "This place is secluded and quiet. The grounds were well kept," says Justin J. about Plato Branch Farm - Peaceful Acres RV park, highlighting the tranquility that attracts visitors to camping locations around Florence.

What you should know

Variable cell service: Mobile reception differs dramatically between campgrounds. At Northgate RV Travel Park, "we got 4 bars on Verizon. There's no Wifi here but due to this CG being a parking lot, no issues with satellite," notes MickandKarla W.

Bridge clearance issues: Some campgrounds have access restrictions. For Thousand Trails Natchez Trace, "There is a low bridge (11ft) that you need to pass under to get onto the Natchez Trace Parkway. If you can't fit, you have to take Napier road north several miles," warns Emerson F.

Site types vary considerably: Not all sites offer the same amenities. At T's Outback, a reviewer noted, "Gravel road but cement pavements on site. Site is very clean and landscape is well maintained," showing the mixed surface types that campers encounter.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly water features: Heritage Acres RV Park offers dedicated splash areas. "Everything is clean and new and the bathrooms are amazing. Beautiful pool and splash area for kids. Pool table inside the store and a cute macaw named paco is a fun surprise," shares emily A.

Check for recreational facilities: Some campgrounds provide additional activities for children. At Heritage Acres, "The playground was in the process of being completed and the game room wasn't functional yet but you can tell the owners are investing a lot of time and money!" Richard S. observed.

Consider noise levels: Industrial areas can disrupt family sleep. At Jay Landings Marina & RV Park, one camper noted, "There is a scrap metal recycling plant beside the campground, a train not too far away (whistle blows at night) and across the river is a nuclear power plant and a refinery," factors that might affect families with young children.

Tips from RVers

Check site length before booking: Ensure your rig fits comfortably. At Northgate RV Travel Park, "The pad was plenty long enough for our 40' fifth wheel and F450 plus fairly level. However, if you unhook and leave, you have a long, slightly curved road to back up on to get back in position to hook your rig up unless the site next to you is empty," advises MickandKarla W.

Confirm hookup options: Many rv camping sites near Florence, Alabama offer multiple utility connections. At Northgate, "This is a nice off the interstate travel park. Full hook ups. Pull through sights plenty long enough for our 40+ ft. motorhome with tow vehicle," confirms ChaseNOurDreams.

Consider seasonal availability: While many campgrounds operate year-round, amenities may vary by season. As noted by Sable A. at Thousand Trails Natchez Trace, "They are building a new pool. Good luck getting a lakeside site since I was told only 8 are available and are full most of the time."
