    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    Great Times

    Great time at Gunter Hill

Gunter Hill Corps of Engineers Campground We stayed 2 nights at Site 27 Full hookups (50 amp electric/water/sewer) $35/night Site #27. is a very long, back-in site, on a level concrete pad, very shady and secluded. The driveway is very long. The Catoma Creek is visible and a short walk just to the rear of this site, affording me quick and easy access to get to a bit of fishing.

The campground is just on the west side of Montgomery, a short drive off of the interstate, far enough away to offer plenty of peace and quiet. We enjoyed lots of walks around the park, getting familiar with the campground while exploring the Catoma loop and the more rustic, electric-only Antioc loop. We were able to put our kayaks in easily as well. The restrooms were slightly dated and dark. No trash pick up, but cans available nearby.

The campground served as a good base to explore nearby Montgomery and it’s suburbs.

    Gunter Hill Campground

    We love Gunter Hill!

We are local (30ish miles) but love to just escape here when we have 3 or 4 days and don't want to travel long distance.  Perfect spot to be closer to the river in the summer and in the woods in the fall.  Catoma loop sites are full hookup with concrete pads including both back in and pull through options.  Antioch Loop does not have sewer hookup and these sites are gravel lots but offer some amazing water views.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Oak Mountain State Park Campground

    Updates please

At the regular campground, there’s only 30amp connections. Some have sewer and some not. There is no camp wifi. Swimming is quit a distance from campground.

The campground at the stables are pull through and 50 amp and full hookups.

Guide to Vestavia Hills

RV campgrounds near Vestavia Hills, Alabama typically operate year-round due to the region's mild climate, with summer temperatures averaging 85-95°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 30°F. While most sites feature gravel pads, the terrain can become muddy after heavy rainfall, which occurs most frequently during spring months. Seasonal demand peaks during college football weekends and regional events at the nearby Hoover Met Complex.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake access at Greensport RV Park and Campground allows RV campers to bring or rent boats and kayaks. "I've been boating and fishing. There's plenty to do. Don't forget crappie fishing is just around the corner," notes William M., highlighting the seasonal fishing opportunities.

Recreation facilities: Family activities at the Hoover Met Complex include a rock climbing area and playground near the RV sites. "Super easy to get in and out. Easy hooks ups and good WiFi available. Playground and rock climbing area a plus," shares Chris G., emphasizing amenities beyond just the camping spaces.

Brewery visits: Walking distance options from some parks provide evening entertainment options. Ryan P. mentions that "there's a new brewery within walking distance of the campground" at Hoover Met Complex, offering a convenient adult activity without requiring transportation.

What campers like

Level sites: Pull-through convenience at Birmingham South RV Park makes arrival and departure easier for large rigs. "This was a pit stop for us and it worked just great for that. We had a 50amp pull through site. It was very level and we didn't even unhook from the truck!" explains Beth H.

Pool facilities: Summer heat relief is available at several parks in the region. "The bath house and pool area are nice. There are canoe and kayaks available to rent as well," says Jared W. about Greensport RV Park, highlighting water-based recreation options.

Concrete pads: Weather-resistant parking at Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina provides stable foundations regardless of weather. "Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad," notes Sheryl, describing the site layout that helps during wet conditions.

What you should know

Site spacing: Proximity considerations vary significantly between parks in the Vestavia Hills area. "There's quite a bit of space between most of the sites (particularly the back in sites). Our site was right up against another pull through on our patio side though," explains David S. about Rolling Hills RV Park.

Power reliability: Electrical issues can affect some parks during peak usage periods. "Spotty WiFi and frequent brown outs on power," was observed at Lakeside Landing RV Park, suggesting that backup power systems may be valuable at certain locations.

Gate access: After-hours security measures are implemented at many parks but require preparation. "If you are out after 9pm the gate will be closed. Make sure you check your email or text messages as the gate is opened with a QR code that is sent to you," advises Mocsaw at Greensport RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground conditions: Equipment inspection before letting children play is recommended. One camper at Thousand Trails Hidden Cove noted, "The wood on the playground needs to be replaced and the grass really needed cut. There were no horse shoes to play and no golf stuff."

Indoor recreation: Clubhouse availability provides weather alternatives. "The clubhouse was very nice and had a lot for kids to do as well," mentions Kara S., describing indoor recreation options at Hidden Cove during inclement weather.

Dog policies: Pet area limitations should be considered when bringing animals. "No fenced in dog park but plenty of space to have one," reports Nick & Allyssa S., indicating that while pets are welcome, dedicated pet facilities may be limited.

Tips from RVers

Parking logistics: Site unevenness requires leveling equipment at most parks. "The pads are very uneven and there are just not many amenities. Very close to sports fields though," warns Chris S. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Hurricane evacuation refuge: Emergency availability has been demonstrated during weather events. "Good job staff for opening up the campground to campers fleeing the storm without having to pay. I'm sure this provided a much needed relief to the families," praised Pamela B. about Hoover Met's response to Hurricane Ian.

Highway noise: Sound considerations affect sleep quality at some locations. Joel R. observed at Sunset RV, "It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area," highlighting both noise and light pollution concerns.
