    Lost Lake Cabins

Cabins only at this location but just down the road is a campground

The road in to the cabin campground is beautiful. Tall trees stand guard as you enter an even more peaceful area than the forest you were driving through.

There is a communal parking area with a few of the cabins in sight. You can reserve the cabins individually or get several for your family or group. You can see some recreation areas near the parking area.

The Lost Lake Campground is just down the road. This has a larger beach and boat launch. The lake is perfect for fishing. There are also several short trails and longer ones nearby.

Drive a bit further than Lost Lake Campground to Chipmunk Rapids Campground. There you will find a wonderful artesian well where you can fill up on great drinking water.

    Pine Valley Lodge

Great view, Cabins run down and Beach was a mess

We have been coming here for a long time. It is under new management and we thought things would get better. While we were here other guests trashed the beach and had dogs running and using the bathroom throughout the campsite. The rules for dogs were to keep them on leashes and clean up after them. These rules were not being followed which caused the beach, in the past is lovely, but with the dogs using it as a bathroom the beach smelt like poop. Nobody in our week of staying cleaned up after them so we needed to go somewhere else to swim. If your place is pet friendly please make sure to keep up with your own rules. The cabins are run down but showers are hot and the utilities are still able to be used

    Peshtigo River Campground

Great for Families and a weekend getaway!

I grew up about 10 minutes away from this campground and it is still an awesome place to go when we are looking for a “staycation”!

It’s right by an elementary school so it’s a very safe area, across the road from an AMAZING playground that all ages will love, also about 50ft from a beach! The beach isn’t huge, and is open to the public so at times it gets crowded but is very safe and clean. The beach is on the peshtigo river and is great for kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, jet skiing, and tubing! There is a boat launch less than half a mile towards town on the river that is open to the public! Also includes a skatepark!

There also are two pavilions on parks grounds, both covered. One is smaller on the beach and includes grills and tables, and the other one has a stage on it for performances!

This campground is a mix between RV’s and tenting so you get the best of both worlds! Forget some necessities? No Worries! You’re a 10 minuet drive from Walmart and within walking distance of a cafe and gas stations! There are bathrooms, water hook ups, picnic tables, fire pits, and parking.

(I unfortunately do not have any recent pictures because I lost all of them but google really does a great job of showing what I’m talking about!)

    Pine Grove Campground

    Halloween starts early here!

This weekend there was a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of our favorites) and loads of cool decked out campsites. Only a few places with full hook up and ALL by the dump station. Nice amenities, lake, splash pads, mini golf, splash pad outdoor pool, golf car rentals, outdoor movies, a full size haunted house!

    Peshtigo River Campground

    Beautiful Spot on the RIver

A few years back, I was a briefly a white water rafting guide for a company that rode on both the Menominee and Peshtigo Rivers. This camp does a great job on their tubing and river-based activities. People come from far and wide to enjoy the camp's outdoor offerings. The campground has a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes it easy to stick around. The cabin are cozy and well furnished. I only regret that I hadn't visited sooner!

Diamond Lake Family Campground and Trout Farm

    Family Oriented, Family Operated

My friends and I love camping here because of the huge wooded sites, quiet family environment, and excellent service provided by Jen, Joe and their whole family. As a privately owned campground, they take their rules and security seriously to make sure their campground is safe, clean, fun, and quiet (during quiet hours). If you're looking for the party campground, this isn't it. If you're looking for lake fun (no boats) during the day and relaxing by the fire at night, this place is a must.

    Pine Grove Campground

    fun for groups

This was a fun place to go with a group of people. Even though there was a huge rainstorm before we got there and had standing water in our site, it drained quickly. They had a DJ there which was fun to listen to in the common area while with others.

The good: Lots for kids to do in their kid-friendly pool, arcade, park, and bounce house area that our group of kids loved. They offer golf carts to rent which is very nice (but a bit pricey)

The bad: I docked a star because It was loud which isn't the campgrounds fault until they don't do anything about it, which there wasn't. We had a great time with our group but were able to have fun while still being relatively quiet. There were 2 different groups around us that were loud into the early hours of the night.

Overall we had a great time with our group and as a whole really liked it. We would go back again. We could have just had bad luck on the weekend we went but would have liked to see some sort of authority there to keep a few groups contained a bit. Would go somewhere else if wanted a "Secluded" stay.

    West Bay Camping Resort

    Quiet woods

Located down a quiet paved road just 2 miles outside of town. You are close to the action but dont have to listen to it.

Some sites are tight/close and others you could turn around in. Most are fairly level or it doesnt take much to make your camper level. Very little grass at site but you get a picnik table and a fire pit. Wood must be bought at the store but pay attention to the hours as they close early. Plenty of mosquitoes but you are in the woods. Daytime they arent too bad.

    Bathrooms were very clean.

Full hookups, no wifi or at least we couldnt find it. Dogs are welcomed , no barking allowed. Cell phone service was good so you can work if you have too. AT&T and Verizon.

Passport America discount honored for 7 days and Coast to Coast.

Plenty of rules but we will have this on our return list.

Guide to Townsend

Cabin camping near Townsend, Wisconsin offers visitors access to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest with over 1.5 million acres of northern hardwood forest. The area sits at approximately 1,500 feet elevation in Wisconsin's Northwoods region, creating cooler summer temperatures than southern parts of the state. Winter cabin rentals typically run from October through April with temperatures regularly dropping below freezing.

What to do

Waterfall exploration: At Goodman Park, campers can walk to multiple waterfalls within minutes of their cabin sites. "Clean quiet campground. Private sites and spacious grounds," notes Elisha S., who appreciates the short walk to swimming areas in the creeks.

Disc golf courses: Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park offers a highly rated disc golf course alongside cabin accommodations. Nathan R. confirms it has a "nice campground with a nice beach area and fantastic disc golf course!"

River tubing adventures: The Peshtigo River provides seasonal tubing opportunities from multiple campgrounds. Tubing trips generally cost $14-20 per person including transportation. "Great experience for small or large groups. Have a blast every time I go. Kids love it," shares Kelly L. about the river activities.

ATV trail access: Several cabins provide direct access to ATV trails in the area. The trails near Chute Pond Park connect to broader trail systems throughout the region. "The access to the ATV trails really makes this campground a convenience gem!" explains Shelby N. about the recreational options.

What campers like

Natural water features: Chute Pond Park cabins provide access to swimming areas, fishing spots and unique water features. "They have a little footbridge to fish off of, a playground, and a nice beach. You can rent out kayaks and little boats," shares Emily K., adding "Slippery Rock is a waterfall from the river that you can actually slide down."

Spacious, wooded sites: Cabin areas typically offer more privacy than standard campsites. "Sites are very spaced out, group sites can accommodate up to 30 people per site," notes Amy A. about River Forest Campground, explaining "sites are very spaced out" with groups experiencing "a very unique bonding experience."

Modern amenities: Many cabins offer substantial amenities despite their forested settings. "They have reasonable rates, clean bathrooms and almost all sites are electric," reports Makenzie S. about facilities at Chute Pond Park, which now also offers kayak rentals for $20 per hour.

On-site stores: Convenience stores at several properties stock camping essentials and local products. "They have a convenience store that magically has anything anyone may ever forget for peace of mind that you won't have to leave your secluded nature sanctuary," explains a reviewer about cabin amenities at River Forest Campground.

What you should know

Site configurations vary: Cabin setups differ substantially between properties. At Holly Wood Hill Campground, "Yards on the lower sites are large, lots of room with concrete pads, but power/water hookups at lower sites are designed for motorhomes, not travel trailers," explains Tonya B., who also noted "yards on upper sites are cramped and unlevel."

Seasonal considerations: Most cabins in the Townsend area operate seasonally. Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park typically opens May 1 and closes December 1, while Peshtigo River Campground operates from mid-April to mid-October.

Pet policies differ: While many cabins allow pets, Wildman Adventure Resort maintains a strict no-pet policy for all cabin rentals and accommodations. Check individual property policies before booking with animals.

Reservation requirements: Most cabin properties require advance reservations with deposits. Some campgrounds like Kosirs Rapid Rafts accept walk-in cabin rentals when available, but weekend dates frequently fill months in advance during summer.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for children: Peshtigo River Campground offers family-friendly water experiences with tubing options. "The Campground itself is very clean. It has some of the cleanest bathrooms we've ever found. It has a small but very open playground," notes Mike W., who recommends "3-4 hours to the tube trip."

Playground access: Several cabin locations include play areas for children. Peshtigo River Campground sits "across the road from an AMAZING playground that all ages will love, also about 50ft from a beach," according to Tayah H.

Family-sized cabins: Group cabins can accommodate larger family gatherings with multiple sleeping areas. "Every campsite has a fire pit," reports John V. about Holly Wood Hill Campground, which features "a pile of different games for everybody to use or play" and "a big camp fire there every night."

Game room facilities: Some cabin locations include indoor recreation options for rainy days. Peshtigo River Campground features "a game room with a SouthPark Pinball that is fully working," notes a reviewer, providing alternative entertainment during inclement weather.

Tips from RVers

Concrete pad locations: Several cabin campgrounds also accommodate RVs with concrete pads and hookups. Holly Wood Hill Campground features "all the RV pads have concrete in their leveled," making setup easier according to John V.

Hookup configurations: At Kosirs Rapid Rafts and Campground, cabin areas share facilities with RV sites offering 30-amp electrical service, sewer hookups and water access. The campground provides a "beaten old boat shed" and "old camp busses" that create a "summer camp as a child" atmosphere according to Erika.

Dump station access: Facilities for RVs vary between properties. Holly Wood Hill's "dump site is unlevel and leans away from hose hookup making it difficult to fully flush holding tanks," cautions Tonya B., who also notes the "driveway to get in and out of dump site is rough and quite tight for a camper longer than 35ft to maneuver around."

Seasonal rates: RV sites with cabins often have seasonal rate fluctuations. "On July 4th wknd we paid $60/night for water and power hookup, a little steep for not having full hookups," reports a reviewer about high-season pricing at Holly Wood Hill.
