    Lost Lake Cabins

Cabins only at this location but just down the road is a campground

The road in to the cabin campground is beautiful. Tall trees stand guard as you enter an even more peaceful area than the forest you were driving through.

There is a communal parking area with a few of the cabins in sight. You can reserve the cabins individually or get several for your family or group. You can see some recreation areas near the parking area.

The Lost Lake Campground is just down the road. This has a larger beach and boat launch. The lake is perfect for fishing. There are also several short trails and longer ones nearby.

Drive a bit further than Lost Lake Campground to Chipmunk Rapids Campground. There you will find a wonderful artesian well where you can fill up on great drinking water.

    Hi-Pines Campground

Wide open space great if you have kids!

This campground is wide and very open. We arrived on a Sunday and the weekend crowd had cleared out, so nice and quiet. One thing is— do not plan on doing laundry on a Monday. The personnel use all the machines to wash linens and towels from the cabins after folks check out. One dryer did not heat very well. The entry to the laundry is a step up and I stubbed my toe because the threshold was not secured.

Great view, Cabins run down and Beach was a mess

We have been coming here for a long time. It is under new management and we thought things would get better. While we were here other guests trashed the beach and had dogs running and using the bathroom throughout the campsite. The rules for dogs were to keep them on leashes and clean up after them. These rules were not being followed which caused the beach, in the past is lovely, but with the dogs using it as a bathroom the beach smelt like poop. Nobody in our week of staying cleaned up after them so we needed to go somewhere else to swim. If your place is pet friendly please make sure to keep up with your own rules. The cabins are run down but showers are hot and the utilities are still able to be used

    Indian Shores

Indian Shores - a worthy desination in Wisconsin’s Northwoods

This is a larger campground with a good mix of seasonal and weekend campsites. The majority of the weekend campsites are located near the prime activity locations; the pool, playground and lake areas. There are full sun and full shade sites available. The Shady sites are amongst the evergreens, so they tend to be sandier. The full sun sites are all grass. All of the sites have a gravel pad to park on; the exception to this are the lakeside sites which are concrete pads. There is a camp store and a good sized bar & grill. The weekend we were here it rained non-stop, so we did not get to use any of the available canoe/kayak/fishing boat/pontoon boat rentals. We did make ample use of the mini-golf, playground, and heated swimming pool though. The pool was warm enough that even the non-stop rain did not cool it down enough to be uncomfortable. The seasonal campers I met and talked with were all friendly and did not have the “why are you here” attitude I occasionally come across when staying at seasonal heavy resorts. I did see several people fishing in the rain and pulling keepers out of the lake to be cleaned and cooked. They were fishing from the docks. Our kids are 7 & 10 and they were never bored. There were a couple trails within the campground that were good for nature hikes. If it were a little closer to home, this campground would be on the shortlist of places to have a seasonal site at.

    West Bay Camping Resort

    Quiet woods

Located down a quiet paved road just 2 miles outside of town. You are close to the action but dont have to listen to it.

Some sites are tight/close and others you could turn around in. Most are fairly level or it doesnt take much to make your camper level. Very little grass at site but you get a picnik table and a fire pit. Wood must be bought at the store but pay attention to the hours as they close early. Plenty of mosquitoes but you are in the woods. Daytime they arent too bad.

    Bathrooms were very clean.

Full hookups, no wifi or at least we couldnt find it. Dogs are welcomed , no barking allowed. Cell phone service was good so you can work if you have too. AT&T and Verizon.

Passport America discount honored for 7 days and Coast to Coast.

Plenty of rules but we will have this on our return list.

    Lost Lake Cabins

    Great secluded getaway.

The cabins are large and the area is nice and secluded right on a lake. Swimming, boating, fishing, walking trails. Great family camping spot.

Holly Wood Hill Campground & Crandon Saloon Event Center

    Clean and Fun

    • Yards on the lower sites are large, lots of room with concrete pads, but power/water hookups at lower sites are designed for motorhomes, not travel trailers
    • Yards on upper sites are cramped and unlevel
    • Taco Truck on site has amazing food!
    • The campground is ATV/UTV friendly but the area “trails” are gravel roads except the ATV park east of Crandon
    • Dump site is unlevel and leans away from hose hookup making it difficult to fully flush holding tanks
    • Driveway to get in and out of dump site is rough and quite tight for a camper longer than 35ft to maneuver around
    • On July 4th wknd we paid $60/night for water and power hookup, a little steep for not having full hookups

Guide to Rhinelander

Cabin camping near Rhinelander, Wisconsin offers accommodations across more than ten regional campgrounds within a 45-minute drive. The area sits at approximately 1,500 feet elevation in Wisconsin's Northwoods region, surrounded by over 230 lakes within Oneida County. Winter cabin rentals are limited as most facilities close between October and May when temperatures regularly drop below 10°F.

What to do

Disc golf at Veterans Memorial Park: The 18-hole course provides a challenging outdoor activity with varied terrain. "Fantastic disc golf course!" notes one camper, who also mentioned the park's "clear water for swimming and no motorized boats" at Langlade County Veterans Memorial Park.

Boat rentals for fishing: Multiple cabin locations offer direct lake access with rental equipment available. "We stayed at a rental trailer here and were very impressed! There is a good mix of open and wooded sites," one visitor mentioned about Hi-Pines Campground, adding that while "not directly on the chain of lakes," you remain "close to all of the activities Eagle River has to offer."

Wildlife trails: Several cabin locations connect to nature paths. At West Bay Camping Resort, one reviewer noted it "has heated swimming pool but was closed for season. Does have a wildlife school across the road with free trails you can walk."

What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Modern facilities remain important to cabin users. "The bathroom was clean, but we didn't try the showers," reports a visitor to Chain O'Lakes Campground who rated their stay highly, mentioning the "host was super friendly and helped us out."

Pet-friendly options: Several locations accommodate dogs with specific areas. One camper at Patricia Lake Campground highlighted the "large fenced in dog run and also area for dogs to swim" as standout features, adding that the campground had "sites are clean and not too close together."

Winter accessibility: Some cabins remain open year-round. One winter visitor described their experience at Veterans Memorial Park as "Loved the whole experience, the cold, the snow, the hammock camping. Quite an event!"

What you should know

Reservation timing: Many locations book completely 3-4 months in advance for summer weekends. For better availability, consider midweek stays.

Seasonal variation in amenities: Pools and some water features close outside summer months. "The campground was peaceful. A little dated and the websites amenities were a little stretch," noted one visitor to West Bay.

Fluctuating quality between locations: Maintenance standards vary significantly between properties. "Owners are great, campground is clean and quiet, nice showers, not really a kids campground more like a relaxing or fishing campground," explains a visitor to Hiles Pine Lake Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Bring beach toys: Most cabin locations include swimming areas but minimal beach equipment. "Nice campground with a nice beach area," mentions one Veterans Memorial Park visitor.

Pack games for rainy days: Northern Wisconsin weather can change quickly. "The weekend we were here it rained non-stop, so we did not get to use any of the available canoe/kayak/fishing boat/pontoon boat rentals," shared one camper from Indian Shores who still managed to make "ample use of the mini-golf, playground, and heated swimming pool."

Check age-specific activities: Some locations offer more family programming than others. "We enjoyed the amenities and activities this campground had to offer... Great activities for kids...fishing presentation, movie, kickball," reported one Hi-Pines visitor.

Tips from RVers

Electrical capacity varies: Some cabins have limited outlets or circuits. "Electricity has no breakers to shut the juice off before hook up which is very dangerous," cautioned one visitor to Arbor Vitae Campground.

Consider cabin amenities compared to your RV: Cabin furnishings vary significantly. "The campground is old as dirt, had a nice lake for swimming and fishing but that's it. Tiny game room with Pac-Man," reported a recent Arbor Vitae visitor.

Laundry schedules matter: Cabin rentals impact laundry availability. "Do not plan on doing laundry on a Monday. The personnel use all the machines to wash linens and towels from the cabins after folks check out," advised one Hi-Pines camper.
