The area includes several family-friendly options like Crazy Js Campground, which operates year-round, and the more intimate Keller Lake Campground with just five sites situated near water features. Nearby, visitors can access Pine Grove Campground in Shawano and Tilleda Falls Campground, both offering full amenities for tent and RV camping. Summer months can be humid with occasional thunderstorms, while spring and fall offer more moderate temperatures but variable conditions. Reservations are recommended for weekend stays during peak summer months, particularly for sites with electrical hookups. Firewood restrictions are common throughout Wisconsin to prevent the spread of invasive species, so purchasing locally is advised.

According to a recent visitor, Keller Lake Campground offers "quiet camping with nice rapids by the dam and some hiking and fishing opportunities." Family-oriented campgrounds like Pine Grove provide amenities that one reviewer noted are "excellent for young families" with "plenty of things to grab attention from mini-golf to the lake." Most established campgrounds offer electrical hookups, shower facilities, and water access, while more rustic options provide basic amenities like vault toilets and fire rings. ATV enthusiasts will find dedicated camping areas connected to trail systems, particularly at Embarrass River Campground and ATV Park, which provides direct trail access for off-road recreation.

      McCaslin Brook Dispersed site

great sites right on busy road

pretty area, tons of tree cover, and the brook is beautiful and clean. $5 per night for a picnic table, fire ring with cooking grate, and a pit toilet.

i would have rated this 3 stars anywhere else, but dispersed camping is so hard to find around here, i have to give this it's flowers. it's a great spot.

my biggest issue was how close to the road it was, and how busy that road is. during the day it was near constant traffic of cars, loud side-by-sides, bicycles and walkers. i had someone stop to chat almost immediately upon arriving, which my dogs and i were not too keen on, as we love dispersed camping to avoid socializing lol. site 3 is further off the road but was occupied.

another thing to keep in mind is that you pay the fee at a beach 2 miles away. i couldn't leave my site once i got there (i car camp by myself and didn't feel comfortable leaving it unattended.) i ended up paying a ranger that stopped by on day 2, but it's good to know ahead of time.

i got there at about noon on friday, and if i had waited until after work, i think i would have missed out. seems to be popular. would go again if i thought i could snag the 3rd site, but will likely keep trying to find more remote spots in the future.

      Apple Creek Campground

      Great amenities

Showers, pool, a general store, arcade/game room, stocked fishing pond. We rent a deluxe site monthly and we love it here! Being long term, they pump us out twice a week! Which is great! They take really good care of their guests!

      Apple Creek Campground

Really nice place besides the night time

Really nice place we have been here before but after this trip we learned to stay away from the main park area unless you want to hear kids screaming at 10-11pm and drunk parents cheering them on. Our first visit on the hill was really nice and had a lot of room from neighbors.

      Chute Pond Park

      County park living

Chute pond is located right off of highway 32. There’s allot to love, especially the small stream through the woods that creates slippery rock. The beach offers a camp store and boat launch.

Campsites are packed together pretty close. If you enjoy people, this is the place.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      So much to do here.

This State Park is located along the Niagara Escarpment. The campground is near the bluff and gives a great view of Lake Winnebago. The vault bathrooms are open year-round as is half the campground. During the summer, the store at the marina offers camping gear and there is a restaurant near the golf course outside the park. I camp here regularly, rock climb, and run the trails.

      Pioneer Park

      Small stop off

Small pond with fish for kids. Muggy location in the summer. Just off the highway in Stiles. Good location to sleep free if spending time fishing in the area.

      Bagley Rapids NF Campground

      Excellent river camping

The sound of the rapids put you right to sleep. Swimming in the falls is fun and fishing too. Reservable sites now too.

      Boulder Lake

      One of the most popular

Boulder Lake is one of the busiest and most popular federal campgrounds in the CNNF. Showers, running water, electricity, great beach, and trails. This campground has been one my family has gone to for generations. So much to do nearby.

    Guide to Marion

Camping sites near Marion, Wisconsin offer varied terrain in the glaciated landscape of northeastern Wisconsin's Shawano County. The area sits within the Central Sand Plains ecological region at elevations ranging from 800-900 feet, creating natural drainage patterns that feed local waterways like the Embarrass River. Water access is a common feature at many Marion area campgrounds, with several sites situated along rivers or small lakes where water levels fluctuate seasonally.

    What to do

Swimming opportunities: Tilleda Falls Campground features a swim beach along the Embarrass River with rocky outcroppings for wading. According to visitor Mary P., "On the Embarrass River, a lovely small cascading falls and swimming area. Small store, nicely maintained grounds."

ATV trail access: Tigerton OHV Park connects directly to designated off-road trails for ATVs. The campground offers riverside sites with proximity to trails. One camper noted, "This place is beautiful. Especially if you can get a spot on the river. Everyone is so nice and fun."

Fishing spots: Several local campgrounds provide fishing access, particularly along the Embarrass River and nearby lakes. At Keller Lake Campground, visitors appreciate the "quiet camping with nice rapids by the dam and some hiking and fishing opportunities." Most fishing areas require a Wisconsin fishing license, available online or at local retailers.

    What campers like

Themed event weekends: Pine Grove Campground hosts special themed weekends throughout the season including Halloween celebrations. Jaime N. shared, "This weekend there was a screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas (one of our favorites) and loads of cool decked out campsites."

Natural water features: Embarrass River Campground and ATV Park offers sites along the river where campers enjoy the sounds of moving water. One reviewer explained, "My favorite sites are on the river as its relaxing and comforting listening to the fast moving stream especially at night."

Family-oriented amenities: Many campgrounds near Marion feature pools, playgrounds, and organized activities for children. At Fawn Lake Campground, campers appreciate that "They have a nice pond for swimming and a playground right by it for the kids."

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds operate May through October, though availability varies. On The Rocks Family Kampground has limited office, restaurant, and bar operation Thursday through Saturday only, which affects service availability.

Site density variations: Some campgrounds feature tightly packed sites while others offer more seclusion. At On The Rocks Family Kampground, reviewers noted "The seasonal campers all appear to have golf carts that they run around all over the place. The teenagers stay active into the night."

Water level changes: River and lake levels fluctuate throughout the season, affecting water activities. Spring tends to bring higher water levels due to snowmelt and rainfall, while late summer may see reduced water flow in streams and rivers.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Look for campgrounds with multiple recreation facilities. Pine Grove Campground was described by David K. as "Excellent for Young Families. As a father with 3 young kids, I thoroughly enjoy this camp for the activities and amenities available. The water area is a favorite for kids."

Playground accessibility: Choose sites near playground facilities for convenience with small children. Fawn Lake Campground provides a playground adjacent to their swimming pond, making it easier to supervise children at both locations simultaneously.

Budget considerations: Some campgrounds charge additional fees for amenities and activities beyond the basic site fee. Check activity pricing in advance for paddle board rentals, mini-golf, and special events to avoid unexpected expenses.

    Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Request specific site measurements when booking to ensure your rig fits. Tilleda Falls Campground offers sites described as "Well maintained and easy to maneuver around" according to Eric S.

Hookup availability: Electrical service varies widely among Marion area campgrounds, from no hookups to 50-amp service. Verify the amperage available matches your RV requirements, as only certain campgrounds offer 30-amp connections.

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds may be narrow or unpaved. Embarrass River Campground has rustic sites that may challenge larger rigs, though "They recently updated the sites to have electric. They do have RV sites with full hookups."
