        Great first time campground

Went to this campground and it was a pretty nice place. We parked out 36 foot RV in a wooded site. They have water from sites also. We will be back and next time we will be doing the water site.

        Nice park

We came to petenwell park in just 2024. Very nice place and will be back again. Staff that we did talk to were friendly and helpful. If you want to bring a boat you can there is a landing in the park. Lots of places to park is your want wooded of water there here. Only downfall is there is no sewer hook ups.

        Wonderful, riverside campground !

Excellent campground! Well maintained and easy to maneuver around. Quiet and enough sun and shade for everyone. Owners are helpful and very nice! Nice playground for the kids, swim beach for great summer fun, campground store/food/drinks if you’re hungry or desire a cold drink to beat the heat and such amazing riverside views that melt the weeks stress away! We will definitely be back to this jem of a campground! Come see for yourself, don’t take my word for it!

        Roche-A-Cri State Park

        Deserted and Historical

An excellent place for hiking and camping. We didn’t camp but spent the day hiking, identifying mushrooms and prairie native plants and had a picnic. There is a tall tower to climb to a splendid overview of Friendship-Adams, many playgrounds, a paved path, hiking trails through the woods, streams, and fascinating hieroglyphs which put Roch-a-Cri in Wisconsins Region of Historical places. Very cool! Great place for families, couples and singles adventuring alike.

        Great County campground

We stayed in sight number nine which is right on Lake. Good fishing in lake for walleye. Campground is clean and has showers. Although I will say it was very crowded with some noisy campers. Some obvious drinking activity going on. Overall I would return and hope to next year.

Not our typical type of campground but absolutely no complaints. Very friendly atmosphere and more comfortable sized sites than we expected considering what we typically look for. All amenities are very nice.

        Lesser-known Gem

Whenever I mentioned to people I was camping at Roche-a-Cri State Park, I'd get, "Huh, never heard of it" as a response.  Most of the campsites were filled, but it still felt like finding a hidden gem.

        Pros:

        - Most of the sites were relatively large.  We had 3 tents and 2 cars on our site and it wasn't a problem.

        - The rock formations and carvings alone are well worth the trip!  Super interesting.

        - The pit toilets were clean and well maintained.

        - Could hear some highway noise, but not terrible.

All in all, we really enjoyed the campground.  Nothing too fancy, but it is worth the trip!  Happy camping!

        Petenwell Park

        Beautiful

Note: I have not camped here yet, but I will be in the summer at the tent sites.

I have been going to this campground for years, walking around, going to the beaches, launching the family pontoon and fishing in Lake Petenwell. Everyone is always so friendly upon arrival. All of the tent sites are right on the edge, it is the best view of the lake. Other RV spots are partially shaded or full sun depending on the location.

I have US Cellular, it does work excellent in the area, but is very spotty lakeside. I am not sure what other providers are like.

There are two other camping areas that also are apart of this park. The second one is down the road a little and is west to the main grounds. It has been there for a while and is a spectacular place for sunsets! The park also just added a third campground right across the street as another option for additional camping. This one is atv/utv friendly where if you are on the trails you can drive right in that area. One thing to note is that they are not allowed in the main campground. There is a small atv entrance about 200ft passed the car entrance where you will need to check in.

There is a pretty nice beach to relax on, the lake is a little green and mucky sometimes- but hey its a lake! There are playgrounds for the kids to let the energy out and plenty of activities to do in the area.

Overall, I would highly recommend this campground!

        Cool hikes and breathtaking views.

Continuing to do my state park visits. Notice that the trails were really nice and the view at the top of the tower was spectacular. The camping was probably not the best in the world but all in all a nice place.

        Charming Little Camp

The thing that impresses me most about this campground is that they manage to do a lot with a little. The Falls are a beautiful little site which the campsites themselves manage to wrap around to maximize the space and fit spaces for all to enjoy. Fortunately, the river itself adds more space for folks to enjoy the water on rocky outcroppings and trees lining much of the banks.

The small town in which the camp is placed gives a true Wisconsin-Midwestern veneer to your stay. Some basic amenities are close by, and the community itself feels safe and inviting. I would have enjoyed a longer stay but I hope to visit it again soon. 5 stars for making the most of what they have.

        Excellent for Young Families

As a father with 3 young kids, I thoroughly enjoy this camp for the activities and amenities available. The water area is a favorite for kids and the grounds sport plenty of things to grab their attention from mini-golf to the lake. The sites themselves had enough to meet your needs, as well as enough tree cover to still help you enjoy the feeling of being in nature. The drive in is nice and accessible even for bigger rigs. It's a good entry point for the nature in Northeast Wisconsin.

        Great Campground with younger children

A lot of the activities are designed for 12 and younger. Many of the spots are seasonal. The adult staff are friendly and helpful the younger staff especially boys could care less what you need and act as though you are the burden upon their life. The campground is extremely clean and well kept. Prior to our stay they had excessive rain which flooded a lot of parts of the campground and also caused it to be unbearable with mosquitoes even with heavy layer of deep woods off. Showers are paid with $1.25 for 12.5 mins, firewood is extremely overpriced $10 for a small bundle, and the food at the restaurant was subpar at best. The pool is clean but usually very cold during our week which temps where humid and in the mid to high 80’s. They do have a 175’ inflatable water slide that is fun up until it isn’t sprayed down enough and your kids get rug burn down their backs. Overall I gave 4 stars because it is privately owned and operated with owners who care and can be visibly seen doing their best to provide the best experience they can!

        Permanent Sites Rules...

The owner was very nice and helped us get around on the map. With over 500 sites and 350 of them being permanent.... the weekend warriors tend to get "warnings".

We almost lost our golf cart and people literally drive past and stare. This is a little unsettling since we do have littles and with the recent news this place had involving children.

There were bands playing Thursday thru Saturday at night but for $25 dollars per person and watching all the permanent sites people just park outside the gate watching forcing people who actually paid to park farther away.

The pool is nice, they do plan on remodeling at the end of this season.

Overall it was nice but again.... you have to watch your warnings.
