Fishtrap Recreation Area and Sprague Lake Resort accommodate pets across their camping options, with both locations maintaining areas where dogs can explore safely. Fishtrap, a free Bureau of Land Management site, features primitive camping with vault toilets but no hookups, ideal for self-sufficient campers with pets. Sprague Lake Resort offers full-service RV sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups alongside tent camping areas under mature cottonwood trees. The resort maintains clean facilities despite occasional goose droppings, with staff regularly raking the grounds. Dogs at Sprague Lake Resort enjoy lakefront access with cool breezes off the water creating a comfortable environment even during summer months.
Hiking trails at Fishtrap Recreation Area provide opportunities for dog walking with varied terrain suitable for different activity levels. The surrounding prairie landscape creates open spaces where pets can exercise, though owners should remain vigilant for wildlife including snakes, coyotes, and wild turkeys that frequent the area. At Sprague Lake Resort, the endless shoreline offers scenic walking routes for pets and owners, with fishing docks providing additional recreation options. Train noise affects both locations, with tracks running near Sprague Lake and occasionally audible at Fishtrap. Visitors camping with pets should bring additional water supplies as drinking water is only available at Sprague Lake Resort, not at the more primitive Fishtrap location.
"Arrived early in the afternoon and got the last spot, looked to be a lot of people staying longer term; but still was quiet and there are lots of places to walk with pets/explore around camp."
"Pet friendly and honestly it doesn’t feel like this place is well known. I don’t find many folks there every time I go."
"Stayed for a night to breakup a long drive. Arrived Monday evening and was the only one here. It’s just a large gravel parking lot with a single vault toilet, no other services."
"But it has a really nice hiking trail behind it. Worth a stop, but not for long term camping"
"Nice quiet spot on the lake and pet friendly"
"The camp host came out and greeted us warmly, despite being nearly midnight. She picked out the perfect spot for us and walked us there."

"The area may have some trails to explore (I saw gates but did not explore further), and there are stock barrels with water available for horses, which gives it that authentic, open-range feel."
"The last two miles driving in is a rough dirt road, and a vehicle with ground clearance is highly desirable."
"The drive was mostly dirt roads. I managed just fine in a Subaru for context. The hike itself was incredible and a bit primitive at points. Bring bug spray and maybe a machete lol."
"This is a small campground just on the edge of town in Cheney Washington."
"Small campground just outside of Cheney. Clean restrooms and showers. Has a game room and laundry facility. Friendly staff."
"Only $15 for a dry tent space with shade and view of the lake! Why not give it 5 stars? The visitors are primarily young, drinking, playing loud music, driving fast and kicking up dust."
"Clear Lake Recreation Area is amazing! The scenery is beautiful, and there are plenty of activities for everyone."
"Standard State Park facilities set near downtown Spokane in a beautiful river gorge. You don't feel close to the city at all here with plenty of space to hike and bike. The dogs loved it too."
"Multiple water spigots close by. Lots of walking trails nearby and a cool suspension bridge over the river. Other than the lack of solitude, absolutely no complaints."
from $12 - $141 / night

We camped on one of the first weekends they were open. Really love the walks and store, clean bathroom. Cool dog park with shade. Loved it!
I’ve never been so harassed before by a campground for having a pet. Definitely not pet friendly. There is literally one tree they make you stay at and you can’t walk the campground with your dog.
This is a newer campground in Airway Heights very close to the Spokane Airport and near the Northern Quest Casino. The campground has a pool, gym, dog park, and has free shuttle service to casino and airport. Very nice bathrooms (just not enough) also the trees are small, but once the trees mature there will be nice shade areas. Lots to do in the area and shopping very close. End of the day I will be staying here again.
This is a newer RV park in Liberty Lake. They have only been open 2 years. Liberty Lake is between Spokane, WA and Coeur d’Alene ID. There are about 130 spaces or so, with concrete pads and paved streets. There is grass between sites, but they are much too close to be comfortable, and there is no shade! And, the rules!!! Lots more rules than most other camping areas.’ It also appears many of the residents are semi-permanent. They have free cable snd wifi, a dog park, playground, swimming pool, laundry, and dump station. The sites are 30/50 amp, most are pull through but the outer ring is back in. They also have propane. They are on the pricy side: an outside loop 50 ft. Site is $74/night. Good Sam gets you a 10% discount. It is easy access to I-90 both East and west.
....The Campground and RV Park, located on Sprague Lake, just 36 miles west of Spokane, WA along I-90 and only 2 miles out of the town of Sprague, on a quiet paved road. (See our map) We are normally open from the 1st of April to the end of November.
....At Sprague Lake Resort, you can enjoy some of the best shore Fishing on the lake. The Resort is surrounded by springs that make this THE dock fishing spot for big (and tasty) Trout, Steelhead and even Bass. Sprague Lake is also known for it's big Channel Cats!
....If fishing isn't your thing, you can Camp or just picnic and relax under the big old Cottonwoods that shade our park. Bird watchers can enjoy sightings of White Pelicans, Meadowlarks, Cormorants, Loons, Wood Ducks and many other species.
....In our park under the trees, we have plenty of tent camping space and 31 full service hookups for your recreational vehicles. The endless shoreline offers a wonderful view from every RV or Camping site.
All in all our trip was great. The campground is very clean and well maintained. All of the spots had big pads that were very easy to maneuver around. Very dog friendly park with a fenced off off lease dog park that was easy to access. The swimming pool was fantastic as well. If you are looking for a true outdoors in the woods camping spot this is not the place for you. You are maybe half mile from I-90 and road noise can be heard all hours. You are also in the middle of the town Liberty Lake. Minutes from Safeway, McDonalds and Starbucks. If that is your cup of tea this is the place for you.
This campground was a KOA but has now changed to “Roam Spokane”. I don’t know what difference it makes. We arrived at 12:15 after a 5 hour drive, with lots of construction, (and a reservation) to be told check in isn’t till 1:00 pm. They eventually gave us our spot at 12:30. The site is small, barely large enough for our 30 ft. Travel trailer plus tow vehicle. 30/50 amp available. Also tent sites and cabins.t Lots of dust and dead grass. The railroad runs directly behind the campground so it’s noisy at times. The bathrooms and showers are clean, one of the 4 showers was out of service! There is a laundry, playground, pool, dog park, basketball court, and dump station. The internet is pretty good.
Tucked back behind a neighborhood of fairly luxurious homes and sitting near the lake, these sites offer a nice spot to catch a breath while traveling. We stayed at tent site 10 and it has been perfect. $27/night for tent and $38/night for RVs. Pet friendly, great host, facilities, and plenty of space.
Dispersed camping near Sprague, Washington offers sites situated at approximately 1,900 feet elevation in the channeled scablands region. The area features basalt rock formations created by prehistoric floods that carved deep channels through the landscape. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-95°F during day and 45-65°F at night, with limited rainfall averaging less than 18 inches annually in this high desert environment.
Hiking and exploration: Escure Ranch Recreation Area trails lead to Towell Falls with varying terrain through Washington's channeled scablands. "A three mile hike/horseback ride takes you through Washington's Channeled Scablands to Towell Falls through spectacular buttes and meadows along the creek. The best time to visit is in the spring when the wildflowers are in bloom and before the RATTLESNAKES get populous," notes a visitor at Escure Ranch / Rock Creek Recreation Area.
Stargazing opportunities: The dark skies and minimal light pollution make this region ideal for astronomy enthusiasts. "The night skies are particularly dark because you're a long way from any civilization," mentions a camper at Escure Ranch. Another visitor shared their experience: "The best part was pure luck as I setup camp on the road back during a new moon which was perfect for star gazing and astro photography."
Wildlife viewing: The open landscape provides opportunities to observe native species in their habitat. At Hog Lake Campground, campers report: "What an amazing spot... Depending on where you are in the camp you will hear a train come by every couple hours. Around 2:00 a.m. every morning the coyotes have a 2 to 3 minute party. It's amazing to hear him. Never saw one though they keep away."
Quiet lakeside environments: The lakes near Sprague provide peaceful settings despite occasional train noise. At Sprague Lake Resort, a visitor notes: "Loved the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Cool breeze off the water and a very happy dog." Another camper shared: "The camp host came out and greeted us warmly, despite being nearly midnight. She picked out the perfect spot for us and walked us there."
Affordable camping options: Many locations offer free or low-cost camping with basic amenities. "A nice campsite with a decent amount of space. Can accommodate travel trailers," states a review of Fishtrap Recreation Area. Another camper mentioned it's "a fine large gravel pull out" with "a really nice hiking trail behind it."
Clean facilities: Despite remote locations, some campgrounds maintain well-kept facilities. At Sprague Lake Resort, "The place is spotless. The woman was even raking goose poop. The woman in charge runs a tight ship, but the result is a quiet, clean, grassy oasis with bald eagles nesting next door."
Weather conditions: The area experiences significant temperature variations and wind. At Fishtrap Recreation Area, a camper warned: "Almost lost my canopy. But it has a really nice hiking trail behind it. Worth a stop, but not for long term camping."
Wildlife awareness: Campers should prepare for encounters with various wildlife. At Hog Lake BLM Campground, someone observed: "We saw a rattlesnake on the trail but we kept our distance and he went on his way. Be kind to the animals, it's their home."
Limited amenities: Most dispersed sites lack facilities, requiring self-sufficiency. "This campsite was the perfect break in our drive from North Cascades to Glacier. The road was easy to find and there were so many great sites. There is a porta potty too. We found a site that was both tent-able and hammock-able. Lots of mosquitoes though!"
Accessible locations: Some sites offer flat terrain suitable for family setups. At Rock Creek BLM Campground, "It is very flat and would be reasonably accessible for someone using a wheelchair or with other mobility restrictions. The picnic tables are even accessible! There are fire rings, a pit toilet, and stables and water for your horses."
Pet friendly considerations: When seeking pet friendly camping near Sprague, Washington, consider site layout and nearby hazards. One Fishtrap visitor noted: "We enjoyed our stay here. We experience wild turkeys, a variety of birds, the sound of coyotes not far, field squirrels and snakes."
Activity planning: The limited shade requires timing activities appropriately. "No shade and it's windy," warned a Fishtrap camper. Another suggested: "It was best for us to come late in the day and then make breakfast under that shelter."
Site access and selection: Many areas have rough access roads requiring appropriate vehicles. At Hog Lake, "Many of the spots are RV accessible a decent gravel road goes through the entire area. Very little traffic people seem to care about the area cuz it's really clean."
Utility availability: Most dispersed sites lack hookups, making self-contained systems essential. At Four Seasons Campground, a visitor noted: "The location is a long haul on a dirt road to the campground. Rig was covered in dust by arrival." At Hog Lake, campers report: "We have a 21ft trailer towed behind a pickup truck and it's able to fit in most spots. None of these are really official spots (not flattened or bordered) but it's a nice place to pass through."
Seasonal considerations: Weather impacts site conditions significantly throughout the year. "The sites are designed for people with horses and RV's. Tent camping was a little rough but worked. Very dry area so expect dust. The stars at night were amazing."
