The lake sits at an elevation of 6,800 feet, and pine forests and grass line its shores, while wildflowers add extra color to the landscape in late spring and early summer. Summer temperatures range from 50 degrees at night to 80-90 degrees during the day. Summer thunderstorms, known as the monsoon, can build up quickly, especially during July and August. Very nice wooded lake camp near I40

We stopped here because it is conveniently located between Los Angeles and Colorado. At 7000 feet not too hot. Sites are well separated and level. Great place for an overnight stay. Or longer if you like to fish or just enjoy the quiet. No swimming in the lake. But boats and fishing are allowed. We saw several Osprey fishing in the lake successfully. Only vault toilets, but they are clean. Campground hosts are friendly. Some spigots for water. There is a tent only section with no generators. Also a group area. 5G T-Mobile. Quiet.

Group Site KG2

Stayed recently in Group Site KG2, which personally is the better of the other group sites. KG1 has a large veranda and fire pit but many of the sites don't have much shade or good spots to set up a tent. KG2 was perfect for a group, we set up the group kitchn at the first site by the toilets as it had the most shade coverage. Everyone else spread their tents around the remainder of the group site for privacy/space. Very clean and frienfly campground, 5 min drive from Williams if you need supplies. Lake was low and didn't seem to have much fish, still a beautiful area.  Only downside is road and train noise.  It's right off the 64 to the Grand Canyon and it's suprusing how much traffic this gets in the middle of the night.  The train tracks that run from Los Angeles through Willams, and Flagstaff and East are also very close so can hear the trains at night also.  Overall the upsides greatly outweighed the noise factor.

Great short stay

Camp host was very helpful and full of local information. Campsites are clean and spaced apart with lots of trees.

Great location for a short trip or a stop over. Will stop here again

Peaceful Camping Nestled in the Trees Near Lake

Stumbled upon this campground on my way up to the Grand Canyon. Friendly campground hosts and great spots that appears pretty quiet mid-week, mid-May. Spacious too. Highly recommend.

Camping in the forest

Kaibab Lake Campground, was a great find. Very friendly camp hosts, we didn’t have reservations and they were helpful in contacting hosts in different loops and held a site for us. Well paved roads around the Kaibab lake, flat paved site, drive way backed in our 35’ trailer without a problem. Paved patio space with a picnic table & fire ring. Lots of room between sites $26.00 a night. Nice lake, boat ramp. A little highway noice but not bad.

It's worth a stop even for a day

In the winter, you can hear the ice cracking on the lake which other than wildlife may be all you hear. I'm all about solitude. If you're camping, pick one of the large group sites here and you'll have it! Lake level is often low and fish are scarce but have fun trying anyway. It's beautiful. Camp hosts have always been friendly, helpful, and keep the facilities clean. Listen in for one of the informative nature talks they offer most weekends. This lake is close to the adorable town of Williams. Enjoy the nostalgic Route 66 town shops and restaurants and take a ride on the Polar Express!

great for camping

love this campground. We came here several times growing up and it was always a great experience. The best time to visit is early summer as it is beautiful and not too hot yet. If you come in fall expect some frozen areas and keep your RV pipes warm!

Lovely

A then-boyfriend’s family rented this place for a family reunion, it was very pretty with a lot to do. There are areas for groups and just 1 tent too. Very convenient next to the highway. This is a huge huge National Forest, but since it’s a National Forest and not a National Park the facilities for both camping and recreation are pretty simple, but there is a small general store. Great forests and shady campgrounds, really cheap, very clean, water provided, large campsites. Easy and difficult hiking trails, lots of fishing. Enjoy!

Great area for camping but bring water.

I camped in the dispersed camping area across the highway from the actual campground because the campground was full. It was nice except for a lot of big rocks and thistles. Water is in short supply so if at all possible bring your own. The campground will let you get water but only smaller amounts and it costs 10 cents a gallon.

Remote - but beautiful

The Kaibab National Forest is a beautiful area; roads leading all directions, not all of them connect. We were pretty excited to camp under the stars. The skies here are BIG! So quiet, and peaceful. We were thrilled to find a camp spot in a small meadow with a pond that the wildlife used for water.

Some roads were rough, needing a four wheel drive; just our style; some are more than an hour from pavement,; again, exactly our style. It was fun to look, and then look again for just the right spot. This area is just north of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, so be sure to check that out. There is a lot to see here. If you are looking to camp on National Park property, get there early and make a reservation. We opted for primitive camping and were thrilled with it.
