Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Kenedy, TX

Goliad State Park welcomes pets at all camping areas including Jacales, Longhorn, Vaquero, and Karankawa campgrounds. Campers can bring their dogs to stay at tent sites, RV spots with hookups, and even in the park's cabins, with proper supervision required at all times. Each camping area features picnic tables, fire rings, and electric hookups convenient for pet owners needing to charge devices or run fans during warmer months. The park's hiking trails provide excellent opportunities for dog walking, though leashes are mandatory on all pathways. Bathrooms and shower facilities remain clean despite the high volume of campers with pets. Some visitors note that the tent camping areas closest to roads experience traffic noise that might disturb sensitive dogs, particularly in the Karankawa loop where several reviewers mentioned barking from neighboring campsites becoming disruptive after dark.

Angels in Goliad RV Park offers clean gravel pads with full hookups where pets can accompany their owners, located just minutes from downtown Goliad's historic sites. Choke Canyon State Park Campground provides a more remote pet-friendly experience with waterfront access ideal for dogs who enjoy swimming, featuring both RV sites with full hookups and pet-friendly cabins. The park's abundant wildlife and water birds create an interesting environment for leashed pets, though owners should remain vigilant about local wildlife encounters. Trails near the water's edge give ample opportunities for dog walking, but visitors should pack extra water for pets during summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 90 degrees. Most campgrounds in the area maintain standard pet policies requiring current vaccinations, leashes no longer than six feet, and immediate waste cleanup. Helton Nature Park's 43 tent sites accommodate dogs with drinking water available and designated pet exercise areas among its nature trails.

    Mustang Hollow Campground

    Campground needs TLC

Fine place to stop on the way through and very friendly staff. There is a petting zoo with miniature donkeys and horses, goats and emus! This was a wonderful treat feeding the critters. Sites are small, dirt and uneven. Pictures show a playground, dog park, etc., however, none of these things exist. It looks like they did at one point, but not in the last decade. No atvs or activities listed on website which was frustrating for the kids. Lake was entirely dry—of course no fault of the campground, but didn’t allow for fishing, etc. There were plenty of sites available but we were placed right by the train tracks and main highway. I do understand why, though, because there are quite a few permanent folks toward the back of the park.

    Vista Ridge RV Park

Great location, great management, great price

We stayed 5 nights visiting San Antonio. This is a beautiful park outside of the city on the river. 30 minutes to downtown. The owners are awesome people and there is a real pride of ownership shown in the upkeep around the park.

Pool, hot tub, fitness center, laundry, dog park, golf cart rentals, clubhouse, and much more!

Mathis Motor Inn & RV Park

    Support Veteran Owners

Recently stayed here cause we got in late and they were the only 1 open to take us in. Well lighten up and loved the laundry room. The manager came out to settle up the next morning and even gave us a free rv mug for our stay. Pet friendly.  Showers  were nice & clean! Wish the pool was open because we had to stay another night but we were told it will be ready soon. The friendly German Shepherd was a bonus since we had our pets out and seems to be unbothered them😳. We will be back for sure. Thank you for the pleasant stay.

Jacales Camping Area — Goliad State Park

    Historical Park

This Texas State Park is located in Goliad Texas. This is in the south central area of the state between Victoria and Austin on Highway 183. The park has some great historical sites including a 16th century Spanish mission. The campground is situated along the San Antonio River. You can kayak along the 6 mile long kayak paddle trail or try your luck at fishing. The campground is well maintained and offers a nice range of sites from tent to RVs and small cabins. The sites are located along the river with no privacy. They have some walk in tent sites as well. The town of Goliad is a hidden gem with a rich history and some cool antique shops and cafes. We plan to stop again here on our next trip to the coast.

    Choke Canyon Estate RV Park

    Decent for short term

Ok for short stay or if you are a worker and not in the park a lot. Road nice is really loud even in the back of the park. Construction company behind is loud too. Laundry and rec room were nice. Several dogs run loose through the park. Be prepared to pick up poop so you don't step in it. Crawfish shrimp and crab stand on the weekend makes great food. Dog area isn't fenced so if your dog is a runner this won't hold them.

Karankawa Camping Area — Goliad State Park

    Quiet and historic

Goliad is next to a historic site for Texas history. The river is beautiful and during the spring time there are tons of blue bonnets that bloom.

Guide to Kenedy

The Kenedy area offers several dog friendly campgrounds with easy access to the San Antonio River and surrounding coastal plains. Located between San Antonio and Corpus Christi in south central Texas, most campgrounds in this region sit at elevations between 150-250 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop below freezing.

What to do

Historic exploration: Goliad State Park features a 16th century Spanish mission and numerous historic sites. "This Texas State Park is located in Goliad Texas. This is in the south central area of the state between Victoria and Austin on Highway 183. The park has some great historical sites including a 16th century Spanish mission," notes one camper.

Kayaking: Paddle along the San Antonio River at Jacales Camping Area. "You can kayak along the 6 mile long kayak paddle trail or try your luck at fishing. The campground is well maintained and offers a nice range of sites from tent to RVs and small cabins," explains a reviewer.

Wildlife viewing: The region's parks provide excellent opportunities for animal spotting. "We saw wild turkey Tom with his harem of hens, numerous birds, rabbits and deer," shares one visitor about the abundance of wildlife in the area.

What campers like

Shaded camping sites: Vaquero Camping Area offers tree cover that campers appreciate. "We are in site 17. A little uneven but pull through and lots of shade around the fire pit," mentions one reviewer who enjoyed the natural canopy.

Clean facilities: Many pet-friendly campgrounds maintain high standards of cleanliness. "The facilities were in good condition and the shower had amazing water pressure. Only downside was there was only one shower in the women's restroom," reports a camper who stayed at Jacales loop.

Nature trails: Longhorn Camping Area provides accessible paths for walking dogs. "Great historic site. Shady trails, too, along the river. We stayed at site 14. It looks like number 17 and number 19 are real shady," notes a visitor who enjoyed the terrain.

What you should know

Summer heat considerations: The region experiences intense summer temperatures that affect pets. "Visitors should pack extra water for pets during summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 90 degrees," advises a regular camper.

Noise levels vary: Some campgrounds experience more noise than others. "The Jacales loop is quiet and dark, but it's really just camping in a big parking lot with a picnic table, shade pavilion and grill for each site," reports one camper who stayed there.

Wildlife encounters: Choke Canyon State Park has abundant wildlife that can approach camping areas. "Woke up to a large group of javelinas at our site who were sniffing around," shares one visitor, highlighting the importance of securing food and pet supplies.

Tips for camping with families

Look for sheltered sites: Some campgrounds offer sturdy structures that work well for families with pets. "We stayed in a sheltered site in mid-April 2018. We hired 2 sites for 2 families but only used one of the shelters as they were large enough for us to share," notes a visitor to Jacales Camping Area.

Find parks with playgrounds: Facilities for children enhance the experience. "There is a small playground for the kids - perfect for our ages (3,5 &7)," shares a family who visited with young children.

Consider cabin options: Helton Nature Park provides alternatives to tent camping that work well for families with pets. With 43 tent sites and designated pet exercise areas among its nature trails, this park offers "a very calming experience" according to one visitor.

Tips from RVers

Check site measurements: RV sites vary significantly in size and leveling. "The sites are located along the river with no privacy. They have some walk in tent sites as well," mentions a camper about the layout at Goliad State Park.

Be prepared for insects: The region's humidity contributes to bug activity. "There were a lot of ants and insects around that's even more than usual. Definitely bring a tent screen," advises one RVer who visited the area.

Choose dog-friendly hookup sites: Angels in Goliad RV Park offers practical amenities for pet owners. "Gravel pads. New hookups," notes a recent visitor who found the park clean and well-maintained for traveling with pets.
