Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hartley, TX

RV facilities near Hartley include Texhoma Park Campground, offering free overnight camping with electric hookups and a dump station. Sites are arranged in a level gravel parking lot with 20-50 amp connections, though spaces become cramped when full. "Simple, nothing fancy. This place will meet the need of giving you a place to lay your head at night in your RV - but not too much else," noted one visitor. Corral RV Park in Dalhart provides full-hookup pull-through sites accommodating large motorhomes, while Dumas RV Resort features level pads suitable for big rigs with 50-amp service. Walnut RV Park in Vega offers year-round camping with electric, water, and sewer connections plus picnic tables at each site.

Most RV parks in the area fill quickly during travel seasons, particularly the free camping at Texhoma Park. Early afternoon arrival is recommended to secure better site placement. Parks vary significantly in amenity quality, with some offering only basic necessities while others provide cleaner facilities and additional services. Cell service strength fluctuates throughout the region, with stronger signals reported at parks closer to towns. A traveler mentioned that Texhoma Park "has a nice big park for the kids to play" but also warned about "trains going through all night" and cattle yard odors. Most local parks accommodate pets, though designated pet areas are limited. Weather considerations include strong winds and occasional extreme temperatures typical of Texas Panhandle locations.

    Texhoma Park Campground

    Great Overnight Spot

A parking lot with 20 electric hook-up sites in a municipal setting.  There's a dog park, a playground for kids or a picnic.  Dump station and water available plus several dumpsters.

The only downside is the trains that run all hours and blow horns as they pass the intersection right outside the park.

We were in a camper van and would stay there again.

Sanford-Yake Campground — Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

    The Best Stumble-Upon Spot!

This place is free and has some sites with both water/hookups and some dry camping. The views are so sick and I had no idea Texas had spots to offer like this (Midwesterner here lol). Fun to watch the deer down by the shore. Cool lil trails and loved the sunrises here, I parked right on the edge. I was at a site with hookups for a few hours (self converted camper van but sometimes I just hook up to the 20a/put my batteries on trickle charger). Some lady w a fifth wheel came up and said I was in her spot tho I’m pretty sure she duped me bc it’s free/aren’t reservations lol. Didn’t put up a fight. No problem camping dry with a better view!! Will be back when traversing TX again.

    Fritch Fortress Campground

    Beautiful in so many ways

This is a really nice area. There are 10 sheltered areas with trash cans, picnic tables, grills and fire rings. Spots are mostly level.

No electric but there is water available up at the bathrooms. Those are flush toilets and even have showers, the water is warm but definitely not hot. We just appreciate them being there regardless. There is also an outside spigot up there for refilling water.

Park person let us know yesterday they will be closing the showers this week for winter. I forgot to ask when they reopen in spring. If I see him today I'll get that info for you.

The views overlooking the lake are absolutely incredible. Someone in decent condition could probably make their way down the steep hillside to the water, that's not us though. Haha The boat ramp is near though.

We are here the end of October. It is NOT a place for the faint of heart. We're from Wyoming and the wind here gives Casper a run for its money! We were actually concerned it was going to blow the van over last night and it's still rocking us pretty intensely today. I literally have motion sickness. The weather has been terrible all but 2 days for our entire stay so far. (we'll be here 2 weeks total). Warm enough to be fine but with the wind and rain we're inside anyway.

We've met a few camp neighbors, really great people. Others living in campers of one sort or another. We were going to do a campfire with a couple last night but the wind came up horribly.

About 1/4 miles down the road is a free dump station and has potable and non potable water, at the moment the potable is not working.

The town of Fritch is about 5 minutes away and there are a couple gas stations, Dollar General and a restaurant. Amarillo is only about 45 minutes for everything.

The bugs are real also. Flies and some little green things. As long as you are aware, bring fly spray, it's all good.

We will absolutely be back, trying a different time of year.

UPDATE: I spoke with the Ranger this morning. Bathhouse will open back up in March. Also, there is another at Sanford Yake camp just down the road a bit that is open year round and the dump station is open year round.

There are several other Camp areas around the lake also. See the picture I took of the map the Park Ranger gave me.

Fritch Fortress Campground — Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

Can not believe it is FREE

    FCFS

    FREE

This campground sits on top of the cliff giving everyone a fantastic view of Lake Meredith and the most beautiful sunsets. Be ready for the wind because it blew something fierce the complete time we were there. There are no hookups but you will find flush toilets, showers, covered picnic table, fire ring, trash cans, and pedestal grill. There is a dump station at the entrance. The road into the campground is paved and in good shape. Fishing, hunting, hiking or just enjoying the sun will fill your day. All the sites are on the side of the road through the campground. Nice boat ramp with a large parking area.

    Texhoma Park Campground

    Still the best value

Yes, this is just a parking lot with electric hook-ups. There is also water available (not at sites) and a dump station, and a playground. We have always met friendly fellow travelers here. It is better to get here in early afternoon to get a better site. It can get very crowded when full, almost overlapping slide-outs. So we try to get an "outside" site to avoid having such close neighbors.

Cedar Canyon — Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

    Free, Undeveloped, Next to water

This is my type of campground! It has a Boat Ramp and trash cans. No grills, no picnic tables, some home made fire rings. So if you need hook ups just go to the next campgrounds (most free). If you are equipped to Boondocking then come to this one! You’ll be parking next to the lake, don’t forget to bring your kayak 😉. The dump station is nearby and has potable water (free) and the next campground has bathrooms and hot showers Freeeee! Waking up next to water is priceless!

    Texhoma Park Campground

    One night perfection

Perfect for an overnight stop., on the way to somewhere else. Spots are easy pull through, all paved, but does have some issues if it's rained recently with puddles. Has a dog park, water and dump. Sites are all the same with Handicap accessible areas to dog park and around camping plug-in sites. bathrooms are cinderblock, building construction with plunged toilet and sink, no shower.

    Texhoma Park Campground

Great FREE overnight RV camping with electric!

This is a city park just outside of the center of town and highway. Its really a gravel parking lot with around 20 spots to park with electric hookups (20, 30, and 50 amp) that allows FREE camping for 24 hours. There is a dumpster, dump station, and potable water fill up. Bathrooms but no showers (bathrooms were older and not the nicest).

This place fills up so it's suggested you get the earlier in the day if possible. We arrived at 7:45 pm on a Saturday and got the last spot. There is a train nearby which went off several times before 11 when it stopped all together. Some traffic noise but all in all you can beat free with electric especially in the Texas heat
