    Patriot RV Park

    Electrical issues

The RV Park worked ok for us and what we did in this location. We did see a fluctuation in the electrical power. We had a fan setup in the living room and would change speeds all by itself from almost nothing running to running full speed. Several times per minute.

    Independence City Park

    Not for big rigs

There were 4 of us 40’ RVs. Two of us lost covers off of roof top units. There are trees every where that need trimmed before motorhome can go in without damage.

    Buescher State Park Campground

    Nightmare camping!!!

Do NOT camp here if you want peace and quiet!! after 3 diffrent attempts to enjoy quiet peaceful camping trips here I can confirm quiet hours are NOT inforced and even worse all three times I've stayed here I've had someone intrude onto my campsite to either try and peak into my tent, or use my picnic table or grill when there are plenty of others unused????

doesn't help that front staff are rude every time ive been too. never had these problems at other state parks. guess Beaushner is the party park!

    Buescher State Park Campground

    Great place

This park was great. In my opinion. I don't know what it is. You're just off in the woods in your camping spot. The pads for your trailer are made of concrete. The whole park is clean and well maintained. I got to hike a short trail. It was also maintained well.

    Palmetto State Park Campground

    Nice and clean

Nice and clean state park. I'm a ham radio operator and this park is one of the parks that gets activated for parks on the air. I've been doing a couple times and have activated it one time.

The region experiences mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures in December and January, making it a popular winter destination for northern travelers. Most campgrounds in the area sit on former ranchland or agricultural properties, with oak trees providing limited shade at select sites.

What to do

Explore historic painted churches: Within 30 minutes of Schulenburg RV Park, visitors can tour the famous painted churches of Fayette County. "The campground is within walking distance to downtown, which offers a few pretty good restaurants. It is also walking distance to Whataburger and a couple of other restaurants," notes one camper who used the park as a base for touring "the historic old churches in the area."

Visit the Shiner Brewery: Beer enthusiasts can tour the Spoetzl Brewery in nearby Shiner, maker of Shiner Bock. A camper at Schulenburg RV Park mentioned they "stayed here for a couple of nights while touring the nearby Shiner brewery and the historic old churches in the area." Tours run Monday through Saturday with limited weekend hours.

Fishing opportunities: Several area campgrounds offer fishing ponds for guests. At Splashway Campground, a camper mentioned "there is laser tag and a catch and release pond as well" among the recreational options available to visitors. No fishing license is required for private ponds at campgrounds.

What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Hallettsville area campgrounds consistently receive praise for well-maintained restrooms. At Whispering Oaks RV Park, a recent visitor noted, "Bathroom and shower facilities are very clean. RV site electrical and water hook up easily accessible along with the sewer connection." Another camper at Flatonia RV Ranch observed, "Bathroom is an odd layout with no doors separating stalls or toilet - curtains only. They were perfectly functional and clean though."

Quiet environment: Many campgrounds offer peaceful settings despite proximity to highways. A camper at KC RV Park described it as "Quiet and EZ to park our 40ft Class A with Honda CR-V toad. Newer electric and cement pads are nice." Similarly, a Whispering Oaks guest called it "a quiet little Gem" and appreciated how "the site was set up was truly delightful."

Evening ambiance: Campgrounds like Whispering Oaks enhance nighttime experiences with special lighting. One camper mentioned, "Trees stringed with lights for nice ambience," while another appreciated "the nighttime ambiance of all the decorative lighting, the free wifi, and the chickens." Several parks maintain fire pits at individual sites for evening enjoyment.

What you should know

Payment systems vary: Some parks operate on honor systems or have specific payment procedures. At KC RV Park, a camper explained, "Honor system to pay KC with mailbox at office at big hall." Hub City RV Park uses a similar system, where after "setting up to go to the front of the bathhouse and leave a check or cash into a box."

Weather considerations: The region experiences intense summer heat from June through September. For spring and fall camping at Flatonia RV Ranch, a visitor noted, "Spot was not level. Seems most of the park is permanent residents." Consider bringing leveling blocks during rainy seasons as many sites are on grass or gravel surfaces.

Site spacing differences: Proximity to neighboring campers varies significantly between parks. At Splashway, one camper mentioned that "the particular spot we reserved was very close to the other spots. A travel trailer pulled in late last night to the spot next to us and when we came out the next morning we practically walked right into their camper." Request specific areas when booking if privacy is important.

Tips for camping with families

Water park access: Splashway Campground features an adjacent waterpark that makes it particularly popular with families. A camper shared, "My family of five enjoyed our stay at Splashway Campground. Another camper mentioned, "This is a great campground with lots to do... My kids totally enjoyed the laser tag, there is also a boating pond, fishing and live music on a Saturday night."

Halloween camping: Fall brings special events at some campgrounds. One visitor to Splashway noted, "The campground had a lot of activities for the kiddos. They had a haunted house for the little ones and one for the older ones. Lots of RV's were decorated." Halloween weekends typically sell out months in advance at the more family-oriented parks.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for large rigs: Most RV parks accommodate big rigs, but accessibility varies. A KC RV Park visitor mentioned, "Not many trees, but there are some back in sites that have small trees." For easier access, Whispering Oaks has staff that will escort you: "We were greeted immediately by a friendly attendant, and quickly led to our campsite."

Long-term vs. short-term sections: Several campgrounds serve both travelers and permanent residents. At Hub City RV Park, "there are seasonal/annuals in the park I would say about 25% of 30amp service is. If you choose to be one, you need to go to the town and get a permit otherwise there is a two week limit to camp here." Similarly at Flatonia RV Ranch, a visitor observed "Many long termers, but they stayed to themselves."

Utility reliability: Water systems may face challenges during extreme weather. One Hub City RV Park camper reported, "We came into this park on the 4th day of the big Texas freeze this past winter. Unfortunate for them, pipe broke and they were out of water at the time. But it was fixed a couple days after we arrived." During summer heat waves, electrical systems may be strained with air conditioner use.
