    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Fate

RV campgrounds near Fate, Texas offer travelers a strategic base for exploring the eastern DFW metroplex, with most facilities located within 30 miles of the town. The regional climate features hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F from June through August, while winter lows can occasionally drop below freezing. Most area campgrounds maintain gravel sites with varying degrees of shade coverage, though newer facilities typically have fewer mature trees.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni provides direct lake access where campers can enjoy fishing without leaving the property. "Great place if you have a boat or kayak!" notes one visitor at Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni. The lake is known for catfish, crappie and sand bass fishing.

Driving range access: Some RV parks offer unexpected recreational amenities beyond standard campground facilities. Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni features "a 250 yard driving range" according to a camper who appreciated the unique offering alongside traditional camping amenities.

Basketball and tennis: Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park maintains recently renovated sports courts for active campers. One long-term visitor observed that "the basketball/tennis courts had just been resurfaced" during their stay at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park, providing quality recreational options within the campground.

What campers like

Swimming options: Several campgrounds offer swimming facilities to combat the Texas heat. At Patriot RV Park, one reviewer highlighted the "saltwater pool" as a standout amenity during their two-month stay, providing relief from summer temperatures that often exceed 90°F.

Accessibility to Dallas: Location convenience ranks high among camper priorities in this region. Plantation Place earned praise for its "easy access to Dallas" while maintaining a "quiet park" atmosphere according to a reviewer at Plantation Place, making it suitable for travelers needing metropolitan access.

Fishing pond: On-site fishing access attracts outdoor enthusiasts even at smaller parks. A reviewer at Bluebonnet Ridge appreciated that "There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required," offering convenient recreation without leaving the campground.

What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Not all area campgrounds provide shower or restroom facilities, which can surprise travelers. A camper at Plantation Place warned: "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas... never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers."

Site conditions after rain: Weather impacts site usability differently across facilities. At Bluebonnet Ridge, a reviewer observed "When it rains, some of the driveways do get muddy. The gravel replacement helps." Similar drainage challenges exist at multiple area campgrounds.

Access road quality: Approach roads vary significantly between properties. At Dove Hill RV Park, a camper cautioned about "a rough dirt road that has had some oil put on it near the few houses that are there but that stops about halfway to the site," suggesting travelers consider vehicle clearance when selecting campgrounds.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly facilities: Many RV parks accommodate pets with dedicated areas. Bluebonnet Ridge provides "a small dog park area" and "Doggie bags were provided in multiple places, and ample trash cans in which to drop them," making pet management easier for families.
