    Son’s Geronimo

    Great family experience!

We had a fantastic time at Son’s Geronimo! Their glamping cabins are super nice and had everything we needed including AC, WiFi, full kitchen, fire pits, hammocks etc. We have a family of 6 and the setup was perfect: 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. The property itself pretty large and has a lot of creek frontage. We kayaked, paddle paddle boarded, swam, fished and more! They also have lots of amenities: 2 pools, 2 hot tubs, volleyball court, basketball court, game room, horseshoe pits and more. We will definitely be back!

River was a great way to relax after decent hiking! Lots of wildlife, Deer, birds and Hogs!!

Canyon Lake Military - Randolph AFB

We love it here. Not for everyone.

We started with day passes, then graduated to renting out the loft cabins, then tried tent camping, and eventually and recently parked our travel trailer in the reservable RV spaces. All in the same vicinity. Made great memories at each stay.

Pro’s: Best rate in town for military (active, retired, $ disabled). Water is beautiful. Fishing can be fantastic. Lots of water activities available for rent or bring your own. Pet friendly, Great for families, most people are very respectful and wonderful to talk to. Good food and stores nearby. Lots of wildlife. Quiet. Close to town and short drive from San Antonio.

Cons: Hard to get ahold of staff to make reservations. Market is extremely expensive and staff isn’t very friendly. Lost and lots of fire ants.

We recommend it to all of our friends and family and bring them often. We love staying in the loft cabins. Some are pet friendly. We have stayed in the mobile homes on the other side of the lake once but that was not a great experience as our things were stolen off our table and covered patio (on Veterans Day) and they were only left unattended for 15 min or less. The mobile home wasn’t very nice but functional at least.

    Bandera Crossing Riverfront RV Park

Fairly New Park, More Amenities Coming Soon

This park has been open for just over a year. They are adding amenities, but for what is there right now, it was a bit pricey. Yes, I'm sure the pricing was upped due to Mardi Gras weekend. It will be nice when tables and grills/fire rings are added for each site, but right now, it's basic full-hookups and not much more.

    Check In: 3p Check Out: 12 p

    Length of Stay: 3 Nights

💲 Cost per night $59 (price will be $75/night for Mardi Gras weekend 2023)

    Discounts: Good Sam 10%

    📝 Site#38 Notes:

    • Water
    • Max amp: 50 Sewer
    • Wifi
    • Site Pad: level, gravel, long (it was a back-in site, but it's been upgraded and is super long pull-through)
    • Utilities were close to the front. Parked camper and pulled the truck behind it instead
    • Close to neighbors, but room enough for tables and such (if you brought them)
    • No privacy between sites

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • Overflow parking nearby if needed
    • Close to the river
    • Big area to walk dogs or kids to play by the river (watch for sticker burrs in some areas)

    👎🏻 Cons:

    • Front row closest to the road- a little road noise
    • No tables, fire rings or grills at campsites
    • No shade trees
    • No wind brake

    📝 Park Notes:

    • River access - but it's pretty low right now. Won't be kayaking or even tubing anytime soon
    • Some deer in the park
    • Cabins
    • Some large fire rings on the outskirts of park, but not at sites
    • 3 miles into Bandera - close but nice to get away during big event weekends
    • There was a food truck on site, but it wasn't open this weekend

    In process of being built:

    • Great Lodge (should be ready by March) - Office, Store, Restrooms/Showers
    • Zipline
    • Yurts
    • Amphitheater
    • Pool/Hot Tub

    Pedernales Falls State Park Campground

    Everything is bigger in Texas

Large sites, friendly wildlife and gorgeous views makes this a favorite! All sites have parking for cars and or campers, water, electricity, picnic table with lantern hook, and fire pit / grill. The lots have plenty of room for a tent and it would be easy to hit the site max of 8 ppl with a camper and tent. Some lots were easily 3/4 of an acre! Trails were beautiful and well maintained. The falls are always spectacular. They had ice and firewood for sale at the park manager site so it was close to where you were staying. (In July at least.) Restrooms were clean and modern. Have to mention that with all the landmarks, wineries, distilleries, antique shops, etc. it would be easy to spend a whole week here... And then Austin is 30 minutes away!

    Son’s Island

A tropical oasis right here in Texas!

Son’s Island is awesome! What a great experience we had. We stayed in one of their glamping tents. It had 2 queen beds and a twin bed but the best part is it had air-conditioning and it stayed very comfortable. You get to use the cabanas for free at night from 7:30 PM - 10:00 am when you rent a tent but you must also rent a cabana for the day if you plan to stay. It is well worth the money. Each cabana comes with its own private dock, lots of comfortable seating, electricity, water, BBQ pit, picnic table and hammock. We heard lots of people rave about this place. It definitely surpassed our expectations!

    Summit Vacation Resort

    Texas Camping at its finest

We loved the quiet and peace of this RV Resort nestled in Texas Hill Country.

The Park: they have a large pool area with cafe and snacks. The property is large and spaces are spread out through out the park. The big draw is the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake, and the woods and hills.

They have hot shoes, bath houses, laundry.

The sites: Gravel and mostly level, very few sites were unlevel. You’re surrounded by hills so it is nice and quiet. They are full hook up sites. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. Small deer herds would move through the park each evening. Many of the campers feed them corn and they know the sounds and come running out of the hills.

The campground is near grocery and hardware stores. Within an hour are several bigger towns with more stores.

Cellular: T-Mobile was decent but not great. They do have Campground WiFi that worked faster.

Guide to Boerne

Cabin rentals near Boerne provide convenient lodging within Hill Country terrain. Located at elevations between 1,300-1,700 feet, the area's rolling landscape features limestone outcroppings and juniper forests that create natural boundaries between camping areas. Most cabin facilities remain open year-round with summer highs reaching 94°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 40°F.

What to do

Swimming at Medina Lake: The shoreline at Thousand Trails Medina Lake offers water access for cooling off during hot Texas summers. "Lots of hiking and exploring" around the property provides additional recreation beyond water activities. The campground features "large RV spots, beautiful lake views" with regular wildlife sightings.

Wildlife viewing: The parks around Boerne host abundant deer populations that often become quite tame. At Top of The Hill RV Resort, one reviewer noted it's "on top of a hill! I think it is special" with newer facilities and meeting spaces. The elevated position provides excellent vantage points for spotting Hill Country wildlife.

River exploration: The Medina River corridor offers opportunities for kayaking and wading. "You can drive down or walk down, set up and have a great meal right by the water" at Boulderdash Cabin & RV Park according to one visitor. Depending on water levels, guests can enjoy both deep-water and shallow-water activities along the riverbanks.

What campers like

Private waterfront sites: At Boulderdash Cabin & RV Park, the limited number of sites creates a more intimate camping experience. A reviewer appreciated that "spots are squeezed in a small place but at varying angles so you aren't lined up," creating better privacy than larger facilities. The property features "rustic, private, small, right on the river, beautiful views" with only three RV sites and a rustic tent area.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention the quality of maintenance at Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort. "Grounds are maintained beautifully. Cleanest laundry and large laundry room" notes one review. Another mentioned it has the "biggest, cleanest, nicest laundry room I've encountered. Pool is good, grounds well maintained."

Accessible sites: Many cabin rentals provide accommodations for those with mobility concerns. Several campgrounds offer single-level cabins with minimal steps. "Easy to access, even for larger rigs. We stayed in 39 foot 5th wheel" reports a visitor to Thousand Trails Medina Lake, noting the "regularly spaced bathroom/showers" and convenience.

What you should know

Reservation policies: Many parks fill quickly during peak seasons. "Get there early. First-come-first-served policy" applies at some locations like Thousand Trails Medina Lake, while others require advance booking. Most cabin facilities require minimum stays of 2-3 nights during summer months.

Bathroom facilities: Quality varies significantly between properties. At Kerrville-Schreiner Park, "the restroom and showers were older but kept clean" according to one camper, while another noted "the bath house was very close by and was kept in good repair."

Seasonal considerations: Water levels fluctuate dramatically at area lakes and rivers. "The lake was dried up during our stay, but it was still beautiful views all around" mentions a Thousand Trails Medina Lake visitor. Another camper at Boulderdash noted "If the river was high enough to kayak or paddle board, I'm sure I would love this place. With the river as low as it was, there wasn't a whole lot to do for our family."

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: Many cabins welcome pets for additional fees. "Dog friendly even with 'aggressive' dog breeds. Very much a plus for us" noted a Thousand Trails Medina Lake visitor. Most properties that allow pets request they remain leashed when outside cabins.

On-site activities: Blanco State Park Campground provides multiple recreation options within walking distance. "Great swimming. Shaded campsites. Walking distance into Blanco" makes this location convenient for families wanting to minimize driving between activities. Another visitor mentioned "There is a playground for the kids and a volleyball court."

Supply planning: Most cabin rentals provide limited kitchen equipment. Lake Medina RV Resort offers "water front views. Can rent Kayaks. Pool and clubhouse. Ranch tours" with friendly staff according to visitors. Grocery options exist in Boerne but specific items for outdoor activities may require advance planning.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Al's Hideaway Cabin and RV Rentals, travelers appreciate the "grassy space between each RV space with room to enjoy without being too close to neighbors RV." When booking, requesting sites away from main roads provides quieter surroundings.

Highway proximity: While convenient for travel, some parks experience road noise. At Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort, "only downside is it's right off major road, so noisy if you're in the first couple rows. Easy in/out with 38 ft class A" according to one RVer. Request interior sites when highway noise is a concern.

Hookup variations: Not all sites offer full connections. "Not all have sewer connections, but there is a dump station on site" at Thousand Trails Medina Lake. Verify available amenities when booking to ensure appropriate hookups for your equipment needs.
