    Fort Davis, Texas

We have 24 RV spots at our site. At an altitude of 5,050 feet, Fort Davis is the highest town in Texas. What does that mean? Cooler temperatures with our yearly average being 72 degrees, mountain scenery and breathtaking, beautiful starry skies. The Fort Davis area offers nine different restaurants, all with their own uniqueness. There are two grocery stores and a liquor store less than two miles from the RV Park. Want to take your family out in nature or to learn about Fort Davis, Texas history? We have that too. Some of the tourist attractions are places like the the National Historic site that not only holds history but hiking trails as well. The Davis Mountains State Park is about two miles from the RV Park and programs are hosted every week plus it has more hiking, from beginner trails to advanced. McDonald's Observatory is nearby and has many family oriented program options available, which include Star Parties, and kid-friendly activities daily. Star parties at the Observatory are Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Check out the Observatory's website(mcdonaldobservatory.org) or call (432) 426-3640. The area has many other attractions such as Balmorhea State Park which is about 35 miles from Fort Davis and it is home to San Soloman Springs. Also, Big Bend National Park is about 130 miles from Fort Davis.

    Historic Prude Ranch

Off season gem for local hiking and short stay!

This is a historic ranch down the road from Fort Davis.  The ranch serves as a summer camp for kids and groups and we did arrive in Nov so it was like having the place to ourselves (not sure how it would be with lots of kids around!).  There are two locations for RV parking; front and rear.  We stayed in the rear, but would pick the front next time.  The rear was private, but the front seemed to have less building obstacles for night sky and sun setting viewing.  The road is not active at all it seems ... very much off the beaten path.

Our spot was a back in and did require leveling, but had full hook ups.  There is no set dog park area (not a big deal!). The horse corrals and horses were a great site to see. The buildings could use a fresh coat of paint and the landscaping could use a few flowers and decorative improvements, but we were not there for the RV spots, but for a short stay and hiking.

We entered from the north side of town and was a little skeptical, but eventually we arrived and were happily surprised.  They do have horse back riding available at all times; however we chose to hike the near by hills in the state park ... be prepared for the walk is on rocky, shale, hills so extra work on the leg muscles but WELL worth it!

The staff is very very welcoming and knowledgeable of local attractions ... There is Fort Davis you can walk through, hiking at Prude Ranch, hiking in the state park, and a 2 - 3 hour drive that has local natural sites you can see from the car.

    Historic Prude Ranch

    Absolutely fantastic

If you are from Texas, then you already know the legend that is Prude Ranch. I'm not sure when they added RV spots to the Ranch but you can't imagine how excited I was to find out they had. There are about two dozen spots with full hookup 30/50 in two separate camps (upper and lower). The lower camp sites in a pecan field at the entrance to the ranch while the upper camp sites sit smack dab in the middle of the cabins and stables. This isn't your average RV park. Prude Ranch is known statewide for its summer camp which sees hundreds of kids over 4 to 8 weeks in the summer. The rest of the year, Prude is a working horse ranch and there is plenty to do. My son and I took two, two-hour trail rides with our Wrangler Andy who was a wealth of information. There are a couple other RV parks in the area but honestly, if you dont day here you're really missing out. We camped at the lower site which took a little bit of leveling (6" in the front and 2" passenger). The deer come in at night and you can sit and watch them wander. Town is only 5 miles down the road with grocery open til 8pm and a family dollar for those items you didnt realize you forgot until you got here. If you come, you must ride the trails, its an amazing experience.

    Davis Mountain RV Park

    Brand new RV Park

Stayed here for 5 nights on our way from Big Bend NP to Carlsbad Caverns.  If you are looking for fancy this is not the place.  It is a work in progress.  But all the sites are level, pull thru with both 30 and 50 amp service.  It is centrally located for all the attractions in the area particularly Fort Davis National Historic Site and McDonald Observatory.  They have plans to add bathrooms and a laundry facility.  The connections are all new and water pressure is excellent.  Cell service is good - TMobile 3 bars 10 down/6 up, Verizon 4 bars 10 down/19 up.  Verizon tower is within site of the RV park.  They do have wifi available but we did not use it.  At only $20 a night for full hookups while they are new you can't beat it.  Buster and Pam are great owners.  They have been very accommodating.

    Lost Alaskan RV Park

Clean campground in a great location

Love Alpine with its street art, food trucks, quaint downtown and history. Hiking up to see the desk on the grounds surrounding the Sul Ross campus is just one fun excursion. Also, the Big Bend Museum and Kokernot Field.

The campground is set on the outskirts of Alpine and has pine trees around it. Unfortunately most sites that I saw don’t have much, if any, shade. That being said, there are lots of plusses for this campground. The staff is great, the site I was in was level and had full hook ups, the campground laundry is excellent and there’s also a community recreation room.

Good rates for a nice stopover in a great location in Big Bend country with a pet park, gift shop, pool/playground and cabins.

    Marfa Overnight Trailer Park

    Sweet Little Place

Marfa, TX is one of those middle of nowhere towns that you NEED to explore, plus it is close to Big Bend National Park so if that is your destination then be sure to check this artsy little town out.

We stayed in this RV park based on the location so we could walk or ride our bikes around town. It's a dusty and dated place but the owners were really nice and relaxed. There are many residents who live here and they were friendly as well. Don’t judge it based on the looks. The owner lives in the house just before the park entrance and we were told by a resident to just go up to the door. The lady told us to just pick an open spot and pay later. There are showers and free laundry on site for the short term visitor so we were able to to a couple loads but let her know in advance so she can arrange a time to unlock the door for you. All the machines were clean and in working order.

Park also has full hook ups. It is quite dusty and while we were out and about a huge dust storm came through and since we had our windows open everything was covered in dust! Overall though we would definitely stay in this park again, it was reasonably priced at $40/FHU/night (cash only!) and the access to town is worth it. We never felt unsafe here. Some car noise but quiets down at night.

Kinda across the street is an excellent burrito shop (cash only). Also in town is art galleries, a distillery, a beer garden, and some great restaurants. The food here was the best we’ve ever had in a small town. Even had vegan tacos at different places. Also note there are mysterious lights called The Marfa Lights that you can drive out about 8 miles east and there is a place specifically for viewing them (you can boondock there as well).

Will stay here again next time we come to Marfa!

    Saddleback Mountain RV Park

    No thrills a camping

We stayed here two nights while we swam in balmorhea. We pulled in late at night and we just placed $20 in the office , picked a spot and slept. The next day we swam all day and returned to a different spot. Same easy process, leave $20 in the office with your spit number. All spots are open and have full hook ups. Some are overgrown with weeds and the water isn’t accessible so choose wisely. Gravel and level spots, next to a gas station and diner.

    Saddleback Mountain RV Park

    Convenient, large spaces

We pulled off I-10 to stay for the night on a cross-country trip. This park is just off the exit and you drive through the gas station entrance to get here, but the park is remarkably quiet and scenic for being in the middle of the desert and right next to the highway. We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Friday and the office wasn't open. They have a dropbox that tells you to find a spot and pay the nightly rate in the dropbox. The restaurant is closed, but if you need anything at the gas station, it is very close. For $20, we have water, sewer, and electricity.  The T-Mobile cell service is amazing, but there aren't over-the-air TV channels. The sites are a little close together, but the first half have pretty desert plants between each site. There are clearly some long-term residents, but we felt safe and welcome and would definitely come back as a stopover.

    La Vista RV Park

    Quiet, Views

March 1,2021. Small RV park off Rt. 118 ten minutes south of Alpine. Self check in. All sites have hook ups, some 30 amp others 50 amp priced accordingly. Sites are very close to each other. No water. Could not find a Women’s bathroom, only Men’s and never saw anyone to ask while I was there. No tent sites or sites w/o hook ups. Rough gravel pull through was level and had a few evergreen trees on one side. WiFi weak and unreliable from my site #13. Verizon cell service one bar and unreliable.

With a little investment this could be a very good campground, but currently, it falls short.

    Davis Mountain RV Park

    Affordable but bare bones

This is our first trip into Texas and we came in from Carlsbad. There are several options in Fort Davis and this one was affordable at $30 for full hook ups. Pick your site and the host drops off a nice welcome packet that includes local pecans. Aside from newly planted trees and a dumpster, there’s nothing at the park. It’s a dirt lot, but it serves its purpose. If your looking for fancy or anything above hookups- this is not for you. Minutes from town and the Fort at Fort Davis and a just down the road from the state park for some nice hiking. It’s a cute town with enough to keep you busy for a day or three

    Lost Alaskan RV Park

    Better Than Most RV Parks

I stayed here for two nights during the Texas snow and deep freeze of Feb. 14 to 16, 2021. It was comfortable to be in the company of so many as the park was packed, RV Parks are not my thing so I left on snow covered roads (no snow plows in TX) and drove 80 miles south. The manager called me a few hours after I left sounding in disbelief and to confirm that I had relinquished my spot. I’m from Maine. We have winter and snow covered roads are normal.

ThIS RV Park has all the amenities of a KOA including friendly service, nice dog walk and play area, clean bathroom, and laundry, and spotless grounds beneath the pines. The end of row sites cost an additional $10, but my dogs enjoyed the bonus of a large, private grassy area and a couple of shade trees offered on site A20.

    Perfect Location

My family and I traveled to explore the Davis Mountains and this was the perfect spot! Very well maintained, FULL hook ups, nice views and so close to tons of trails and scenery. We even saw deer a few nights wandering through.

Minutes to cute restaurants in Fort Davis, and a grocery store.

No restrooms or showers, but the owners have plans for them.

Reservations are call in only but Pam and Buster are very responsive. When you arrive you choose your spot and call them and then they text the WiFi password too. (T-Mobile call and their Wi-Fi was superb) AND only $25/ night! Can’t beat that...I would have paid much more for the spot and the extraordinary hospitality!

    Tumble In RV Park

    Welcoming, funky, comfortable

Marfa is walking distance from Tumble In and we enjoyed the walk. We arrived late and hooked up and went to sleep. The temperature dropped like a rock and the owner kindly unhooked our hose in the middle of the night to prevent more damage (we lost one valve& our furnace croaked). He then referred us to THE BEST rv service (Big Bend RV Service & Supplies). We also did laundry there- they ask for a $3 donation which is very fair!

    Oh, My Stars!

We stayed for almost a week and enjoyed our time in Marathon. The first night we enjoyed looking at the stars with the resident astronomer. The rest of the week we stayed cozy in our warm RV at night as it got really cold! The stars were truly spectacular, but too cold for me. During the day we explored Big Bend, which was convenient to access from the RV park. The only reason we give four stars and not five was the difficult to use laundry room, and the train next to the park.

    Rustic but Awesome

We pre booked our stay (paid on line). Received an email and text on the day we arrived. It’s an open RV park which is nice as we chose our spot. Closest to the mountains (although they are in the distance). Smell of Creosote this morning was amazing. Only here for a night but loved this site. Very basic no pool or hot tub or even a shuffle board court but definitely fit the bill. Restaurant next door circle bar and saloon. Great bar and food is great and reasonable. Highly recommend a stay here if you like basics and friendly people.

    Marfa Overnight Trailer Park

Closest Park to Marfa town center

This place is right next to El Cosmico which is the well-known (and high-priced) option in town. These grounds are very basic, with lots of older trailers and full-timers in most of the occupied spaces. While not the most luxurious place, the real draw is the fact that you can walk into town and explore Marfa from your campsite (and the Chianti Foundation is very close by, but closed during COVID).

Basic amenities are available including a laundry room and sites have full hookups. It's not the fanciest, but if you're looking for location over luxury, this is a great spot to park in Marfa.

    Rude CG host

We stayed one night on a Wednesday, on our way thru Texas. The price was ok, $20 a night with full hookups. The host claimed to not know what was available as far as places to eat at the truck stop next door. There is a restaurant 100 yards away. The food there was not good and the prices were high. Had I known any of this beforehand, I would have pulled behind the truck stop and parked in the lot with all the trucks and saved $20.

    Good Price point Option

Overall good experience. Plenty of vacancy - no reservations needed. $20 cash in an envelope gets you full hookups (50/30 amp - powerpoles in good shape), water (good quality/ pressure), and sewage. No picnic tables or bbq/fire. Nice access to store, gas, ice, and steakhouse/bar (I didn't visit). Nice landscape, but lots of goatheads (thorns) that get in your dog's paws. Quiet nights, despite popular truckstop adjacent.
