An authentic desert experience awaits you here. Were centrally located between Big Bend national park and Big Bend ranch state park in the heart of the historical Terlingua Ghost town. Voted an ideal night sky viewing location by earthsky.com and recognized by the McDonald's observatory for our dark sky friendly lighting. Jomommas Rv park is a smaller more family oriented park . We also have camp site's available!!!!I'm a 3rd generation Terlingua Tx resident so I know the area better than most.

The Rio Grande Village Campground sits near the banks of the Rio Grande, the International Boundary between the United States and Mexico. It is one of the most popular campgrounds in Big Bend National Park, especially for those traveling in large recreational vehicles. It is located close to Boquillas Canyon and Hot Springs, and serves as a launch point for visitors accessing the river or the endless miles of backcountry roads. Rio Grande Village has an outstanding view of the Sierra del Carmen Mountains, located in Mexico to the east, which light up with hues of red and orange during sunset.
The river offers ample opportunities to explore its shores and water. The river put-in allows easy access to canoeing and kayaking on the river. Birders flock to the river banks to spot such rare and unique species often found only in Big Bend. Day Hike trails are also found nearby and many backcountry roads are located near the campground.
The mountain views, proximity to Mexico, the Rio, and shade from the surrounding cottonwood trees make Rio Grande Village Campground irresistible to visitors. The campground is at an elevation of 1,850 ft. During the winter season (November through March) temperatures are warm and pleasant with daily highs in the mid-70s to low 80s. From April through September, this campground is extremely HOT with daily highs exceeding 100-107 degrees. Be prepared for the weather: Current Weather Readings
Rio Grande Village is located near the Boquillas Canyon trail, the Boquillas Port of Entry, the Marufo Vega Loop trail, the Hot Springs and Hot Springs Historic District and Daniels Ranch. It is 20 miles (32 km) from the Panther Junction Visitor Center.

Stillwell's Store and RV Park is located just north of Big Bend National Park, about 8 miles from the Persimmon Gap entrance. NOT LOCATED IN ANY TOWN, WE ARE 45 MILES SOUTH OF MARATHON The old-fashioned general store carries soft drinks, beer, ice, canned goods and regular gasoline. Our RV park features sites with full 30/50 amp hook-ups (electric, water and sewer), water and electric only sites, dry sites and tent sites. Stillwell is a practical campground with a lot of history, not a resort. Come enjoy the peace and quiet at Stillwell while exploring the nearby Big Bend National Park and Black Gap Wildlife Management Area. Given our ideal location, this is the perfect spot for stargazers, bird watchers and those just wanting to unplug for a bit. Whether it's for a short and or long-term stay, we hope to see you soon!
We do have limited WiFi at the store. The nearest cell phone service is about 15 miles away in BBNP. If technology is your top concern, this likely isn't the place for you.
As the saying goes, When in Rome ... staying at BJs RV park was like an immersion experience to living in Terlingua. You feel the history and past of days gone by, with the ghost town of Terlingua and the junk yard behind the RV camping area. Both the town and the junk yard take on a mysterious magical quality in the light at the end of the day. Lots to learn about the history of the place and one great way to learn is to talk with the locals, both in the town and those living in the RV park (temporarily or long term-in addition to those passing through like us). Besides the history of the place, you also learn about the hopes and dreams of the locals - such as the artist cooperative gallery, the RV park manager who hopes to open a cafe / outdoor music spot, and so forth.
The RV sites are all clean and level with electricity, water etc. There’s also a shower house. One note: the wifi doesn’t reach the tent sites (but works fine in RV sites) so we let a young woman traveling alone move her car from her tent site to park overnight on our site so she could use the wifi and check in with her loved ones. We enjoyed sharing some food and conversation with her, as well as meeting other campers and residents.
Terlingua ghost town itself is fun to explore. Many visitors flock to the Starlight Theater (which used to have no roof other than the stars in the sky above). The line to get in is hours long (apparently great menu), but we relished the Frito Pie at the cafe on the side (no wait for that). The art gallery is also worth the visit, and it’s fun to just walk around the ghost town. Of course it’s also a great location for visiting Big Bend NP. We especially loved hiking into Santa Elena Canyon - spectacular.
Terlingua and BJs RV park are hopeful places, with lots of history in a beautiful remote setting that feels like a crossroads in time and place. Really enjoyed it. Would be happy to return.
Just outside the park, in Big Bend terms, lies the town of Study Butte. There you can find most of the things you might have forgotten, including some available camping in a traditional RV park. Not usually our style, but it was late and we had just had a huge day of bikepacking and kayaking in the park, so were ready to stop for the night and sleep.
If your rig just won’t handle the backcountry roads, or size limitations of the National Park, this is a good option for full hook-ups. We parked in the “dry camping” area, which was really just an open area on their lot near the dumpsters, but it suited our needs for the night at $26 – supply and demand!
The bathrooms were clean and the showers hot, but did require $2 in quarters for 6 minutes. I get it, water is gold out in the western deserts, and the season for making money in this part of the world is probably short. Everything here is going to cost a little bit extra because of the challenging location.
We enjoyed a takeout pizza from Long Draw Pizza, which was huge and super delicious. After three nights in a backcountry setting we really enjoyed splashing out. The café which is connected to the RV park is a great choice for breakfast, we recommend the burritos– very delicious but definitely add the potatoes!
We stayed here for four days over thanksgiving and have nothing bad to say about this place whatsoever. Friendly staff. Views from inside the park are great as well. There’s a general store right outside if you need or forgot anything and only about a 20 min drive to Big Bend entrance. Also there are a lot of activities we didn’t try right inside the resort just because of everything going on with COViD but next time we’ll try for sure. Also if you head right out of the RV park entrance, you’ll soon enter Big Bend Ranch State park within minutes and it’s almost just as impressive as big bend with some of the views and trails you can access from it. Closed Canyon trail is a must see as well as the hoodoos trail. Also they do have full hook ups, and 30AMP and 50 AMP.
We could not have been happier with our experience at Roadrunner Travelers RV Park. Chris and Allison went out of there way to make us feel at home and comfortable, especially since this was our very first destination with our trailer. Originally, we were going to have to move twice during our stay due to them not having one spot available for all 8 nights, but eventually it worked out so that we did not have to move at all. They had electric and sewer hook ups when we first got there, but with them being so new(just opened in December 2020), they were still working on the water hook ups, and ended up getting us hooked up to water about 3 days before leaving. Before the water hook ups were available, they drove around every single day and topped off everyone's fresh water tanks. That's customer service for you! They are working on getting fiber optics in the campground, and should have it very soon. If you need a good internet service while there, just ask them and they will tell you where and how to get it very easily and very close by. The grounds are gravel and each site is mostly level from what I could tell. We were 15 minutes from Big Bend Ranch State Park, 10 minutes from teh entrance to Big Bend NP, and 5 minutes from Terlingua Ghost Town. Perfect location for the area. Do not hesitate to stay here! Thank you again Chris and Allison for your hospitality, answering all our questions, and giving us some great local info on things around town. Cheers and good luck!
Very nice 50amp, full hook ups. Very nice bathhouse, fully stocked with sample sized accessories. Easy in, easy out. Great homebase for visiting Terlingua & Big Beand.
When we first tried to book our Xmas week Big Bend trip, all campgrounds inside the park were full. We found this on The Dyrt and figured we would stay a night or two and get a spot at the Rio Grande Village inside Big Bend, which is the only full hook up place inside the national park (FYI RGV is phone reservations only and usually has spots open).
We were surprised at how much we enjoyed staying at the Stillwell Ranch RV Park and ended up staying a full week for only $150 with electric and water hookups.
There are 3 sections to this campground. The full hookup sites, which we had originally booked, are up by the store and are fairly cramped with limited views. However, the Electric & Water only hookups across the street offer much better views and even though the campground is set up as a gravel parking lot to pack people in, it was Xmas and we were one of 8 campers. Lots of space. We had the "end" spot so the views were pretty epic.
The 3rd area is a ranch road with some pull offs for boon docking or tent camping and are even more "dispersed."
There are two cons: First, the dust. Which I'm fairly certain you would find camping anywhere in the desert. Especially near the once volcanic Big Bend. Coming from the the Atlantic Coast, the insanely arid dusty air was a new experience. But we loved it. And it made for amazing sunrises, sunsets and star gazing.
The second con for us was the water pressure. Maybe 10-12 PSI at best. It is well water and even with a high-end filter, even the water tasted "dusty."
We set up an outdoor shower tent next to our camper and were able to camp for an entire week without needing to dump since we did all showers outside.
The store it self is small, and has a a few things that are pricey, but much cheaper than driving an hour north to Marathon to find a grocery. So come well prepped with food and bev. Big Bend is HUGE and you want to minimize store visits.
Stillwell does have gasoline available, but only 87 Octane. No propane (bring extra tanks if you have a propane fire pit like we do).
The laundry room was clean and only $1.25 per load. Their campground showers/ bath house is a bit outdated. While you can use the bathrooms, their showers are currently closed due to COVID.
Overall, only 8 miles to Big Bend's north entrance, and then another 3 miles to the first trail head "Dog Canyon," it's a great place to stay when compared to the other options which we checked them all out:
- RV Campgrounds near West Entrance: The little town of Study Butte/ Terlingua does offer small grocery store and several RV parks. But the campgrounds here are all asphalt parking lots and you are packed in. And even though you have bigger mountains in your view, you also have the dusty less than amazing views of all this small town. Powerlines everywhere and lots of noise.
- Inside Big Bend - First, we went to Rio Grande RV Village... it's a small asphalt parking lot. You are packed in and when we went through, the entire place smelt like sewage. So happy we avoided this one.
Chisos Basin is an epic spot, BUT, like many national parks you are stacked on top of your neighbors. While I feel confident we could have safely pulled our 23' travel trailer down the winding roads, there are only a handful of spots in the basin campground big enough for a camper. Would have loved the views and close proximity to trails, but we prefer a more secluded feeling and Stillwell gave us just that...even though we had to drive more.
Cottonwood Campground down by the St. Elena Gap is nice too, but again, you're packed in there.
Overall, very happy with our choice at Stillwell and would stay there again in the E/W only spots.
They do indeed still have full hook-up rental spaces for travel trailers! We have a 27’ and we were fine (maybe call if you are one of those big fifth wheels to be sure). Terlingua’s a funny place in the best way possible so your not gonna fine incredible signal or high speed internet in these parts but my husband was still able to work full time online from here. The owners are super sweet and her art studio is worth checking out. We walked to a bar every other night and it’s easy access to hike Big Bend daily.
We had a wonderful stay at the RV Village. It is a paved RV parking area with full hookups including water and sewer. We felt very safe. We stayed for 5 days and still couldn't see it all. Great back country hikes and lots of off road trails that require a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle (We saw regular cars on the trails as well) and the roads are well graded at this time of year. There are so many places to bike as well. Kids will enjoy the fossil exhibit. The night sky was incredible.
Stunning location with full hook ups and the option to Boondock for a little bit less per night if you have the ability. The owner is very friendly and the park is very well-maintained.
I took one star off for its not really being a dark skies area. Yes, you see a lot of stars, but a brightly lit liquor store and other light pollution limits the star viewing. The campground also needs a taller sign with darker lettering. Other than that, RoadRunner Travelers RV Park was a comfortable place to stay with full hookups. Everything is rocks and gravel, but nicely graded. Each site has a picnic table. There were three dumpsters for trash. With the sites staggered, depending on the size of the RV next to you, you don't feel hemmed in by neighbors. There was only one night where people outside played their music loud enough to hear in my Scamp, even with the AC on, but they left the next day.
Brand new site just built on the other side of the road. Full hook ups and nice shower house/bathroom. The Little Dipper food truck has amazing food. Had a phone fall down one of the pillar supports for the water line and had the host work with us late at night to fish it out!
Perfect RV park in a remote part of Texas. WONDERFUL staff and amenities. Everything you need. It's a dark camp so if you have issues turning off your camper lights before 9 or 10 depends on the season this isnt your place. Best stars and moon viewing you'll experience! Close to Big bend and terlingua and all of that area. I will be back and cant say enough good things!!
We stayed 4 nights April 2021 when the moon was absent. RV park has dark out rule after dark. Beautiful at night. Great hikes right there at the Maverick Ranch. RV park hookups were stable at 120V. Our shower head fell and broke on the trip in. Park manager had a spare to loan. There are no stores around to buy a fixer. Very nice folks. Bring provisions, everything is pricey around Lajitas and Terelingua.
We stayed at Road Runner RV Park in February of 2021 in the middle of the snowpocalypse that hit Texas in February of 2021. Allison and Chris, the owners, are great people that went around and checked to make sure that everyone had fresh water as the temps dipped into the single digits and they had to turn off the water lines. Chris and Allison went around in their truck with a fresh water container and a pump and filled every RV up. They even made sure to catch us as we got back from dinner at dusk that evening.
They just opened this park on Christmas Eve of 2020, and they were yet to get their wifi hookup, but you can tell they are vested in providing a great park and a great service. The RV park is ideally located in the Study Butte area with great access to Big Bend national Park, Terlingua Ghost Town, and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Entrances to each Park is within 10 minutes. They also have very convenient access to the Cottonwood Grocery, the Alon gas station, and Black Jack’s crossing.
This is definitely a destination area, and we intend to make it back. The sites are all gravel, as it is the Chihuahuan desert. So it will be a little dusty, but that is part of the natural beauty of the area. DB’s rustic barbecue is right across the road and Starlight theatre, and Terlingua ghost town is about 5 miles to the west.
Terlingua's only 3rd generation local owner and operator buisness. Located at the base of the Terlingua Ghost Town your within walking distance of everything in the historic Terlingua ghost town including 4 restaurant's 3 bar's and live music nightly plus there also directly between the Big Bend National Park and the Big Bend Ranch State Park. It's a rustic yet authentic Terlingua experience if you want an adventure this is a good place set up camp. The owner is friendly, informative, and helpful Elena is a phone call away. To top it off Jomommas RV Park has received recognition from the McDonald's observatory and eartsky.com for there dark sky and star viewing friendly lighting so be ready to definitely enjoy some of the best night sky's in North America not to mention some pretty amazing sunset's. It's not like the larger RV Parks in the area you can really get a feel for real desert living, with fewer people and rustic landscape.
OK the campground is a parking lot and I mean a parking lot. Each spot is 2 parking spots. It is all asphalt. No Cell Phone, No Internet, no TV nothing. But was the best place we have been to. If you want full hook ups for camping it is the only one in Big Bend National Park. they only have 25 sites all back in. Pay for showers if you don't have your own. But catch the sunrise and sunsets. Hike to Boquillas Canyon, the hot springs down the river or all over Rio Grande Village. Drive to all of Big Bend and spend days hiking Mountains, Deserts, River, Canyons. The most beautiful area in the World at least to me.
Tin Valley Retro Rentals is a diamond in the rough! Owner Ronda has transformed Airstreams, buses, retro RV’s, and even a VW Beetle (the Cuddlebug) and Land Yacht into amazing places to stay. At Tin Valley you’ll share your stay with a donkey, some pigs, chickens, dogs and cats. It’s a pet friendly atmosphere. Along with the retro rentals and tent sites there’s amazing RV parking and new to Tin Valley, Van Lifer parking spaces. This is not your standard RV park, the RV parking spaces are spread out not packed in tightly. The sites are spread out so you’re not looking directly into your neighbor’s window but instead at the immaculate unobstructed view of the surrounding mountains. Two of the tent sites have their own artistic touch complete with A-Frame style lodging so you can leave the tent home if you’d like. The Land Yacht site is the only clothing optional site here as well, where you can feel free to feel free. Each site has it’s own fire pit and charcoal grill. There’s an outdoor shower here, or nearby showers, laundry, pool and cafe at the neighboring Terlingua Ranch. Artist Jules Muck has put her own touch on Tin Valley transforming what would normally be just a renovated RV into a work of art. Stars will shine brighter here than you’ve ever seen before without the city light pollution nearby and it’s an amazing sight. You can hike up the two mountains closest or take a walk around Tin Valley. Take time to head to Big Bend national or state parks in the Terlingua area. The center of Terlingua also has a ghost town complete with walking tour. In that area you’ll find bars and restaurants, Cottonwood, the nearest grocery store, or the closest place to fill up on gas. A visit to Terlingua and Tin Valley Retro Rentals won’t disappoint. You won’t’ find another place this original, or with this much space to rent to call your own as an RV’er, camper, or retro renter. Check out tinvalleyretrorentals.com or Tin Valley Retro Rentals on Facebook.
The location is fine, right off of the highway going through Terlingua. The park itself is barely okay. The wi-fi is non-existent, the check-in is totally remote, with NO ONE in the office every time we went by. The sites are strewn with litter. We picked up a full trash bag of it just before leaving. We'll be back to Big Bend, just NOT at this rv park.
This is the very first time we have stayed at this RV Park...well this week was EVERYONE’S first time staying at this RV park. It just had it’s soft” opening the week of Christmas. So although it is new and still working on completion of all their facilities(only sewer and electric currently available) the owners went out of their way with ensuring they did daily water deliveries to All campers. Mind blowing since when booking we knew that the water was not yet ready to go so fully expected to have to run out occasionally to fill up. That service alone makes me give it 5 stars but there is so much more that these owners do to make sure your stay is enjoyable. They answer all your questions about the local area, advise you of any weather that is concerning, provide great restaurant recommendations and encourage all the park guests to come together every evening around the community campfire to talk about their Days adventure, or your travel journeys. This was my favorite part(safe outdoor social distancing, of course). They have plans to have a bath house, dog park, and community area with games. I can not wait to return next year just to see how they progress. My gut tells me that this will be the“Oasis” destination in the desert. Thank you Chris and Allison for the wonderful memories of our first trip to Terlingua!
We stayed in Lajitas at their Maverick Ranch RV park, which is right across the road from the resort. We stayed here for a few days while on a 10 day camping trip (left DFW, went out west to Ft Davis, down to Big Bend and back up through the hill country).
This park is about a 30 minute drive to the entrance to the national park, but just a few minutes from the state park. There’s a lot of great amenities, which normally we don’t care about. However, since this was halfway through our 10-day trip, we were able to do all of our laundry, which made me happy. The RV park has a clubhouse with games, books, laundry, showers and a pool. You also have access to the resort amenities.
The RV park is a dark sky park, so camera are supposed to have exterior lights off after 9 or 10pm so everyone can enjoy the stars.
There’s also a dog park with grass, which our dogs were happy about!
Maverick RV Park kicked off our RV tour on a great note. Bob - Manager on site was extremely friendly and helpful even did the hook ups for us when we arrive close to 11 pm. Their no light pass 10 pm rule in my opinion was a little too rigid considering park was at 30% capacity and there were no many guest close by to bother but we understand rules. They also rent vehicles for the day - a little overpriced in my opinion- but helpful for those that didn’t have another vehicle with your class A rental and need to move around. Vehicle wasn’t as clean as we would have expected for the price. Overall, we had a great stay and everyone was helpful and friendly. We highly recommend this place.
I love visiting Big Bend for the remoteness and the beauty of the desert. Stillwell is the only place I will stay while in the area. It's located on the Northern end of the park and is isolated from the touristy Terlingua. Full hookup sites are very close together (almost touching) however I prefer the electric only sites as they are spread out for the most part.
This place got it done for our visit to Big Bend. It’s your typical RV Park on the edge of a National Park (close spots, basic amenities). The area is very quiet. The staff we interacted with was friendly and helpful. There is a fuel station and small convenience store on the property.
we stay at Stillwell Store RV park often. if we are needing wi-fi to work we stay up by the store. if not, we like to stay across the road. lots of space, clean air and area to walk the pup.. we have never had a bad experience here.
Wow! What a place to stay! The backdrop of the mountains were beautiful at these clear sites.
The parking sites are set up like a butterfly, and we were to the right at the perimeter with no one behind us which had more privacy than the inner sites.
These people were so friendly at this resort. Staying open past posted hours, and providing boxes for kindling, and very kind.
The RV sites had concrete pads large enough that we never brought out our outdoor rug.
There was a picnic table and an area to have a fire, though we used a solo stove.
This would be a great place to come during a new moon to view the stars.
We rented a Subaru from Lajitas. The people from check-in at the Rv park shuttled us over then back to our RV site after drop-off via a golf cart.
The car rental was nice as many of the places we wanted to see in Big Bend like Santa Elena Canyon was a 1.5 hour drive.
If going in March or April, go before the week like a Thursday, Friday even a Saturday. Everything was easy in and out during this time…restaurants, reservations for fun activities at Lajitas like their cowboy shooting events (ours was not private and we were driven in an SUV by the instructors to a site) & horse riding.
But come Sunday on whoa!Insane! Super long waits (make reservations for dinner every night well in advance and just cancel if you don’t feel like it. Because even the cafe had 1.5 hour wait for food. We were so happy that we had that optional reservation. Luckily there is a general store just outside the rv park with plenty of foods to make.
Big Bend’s entrance had a super long wait Sunday on but none on Friday or Saturday, so go before the week begins to beat the rush!
The RV park was very calm and peaceful, then Sunday night on kids were very wild, running across and behind camp sites with no parents, throwing rocks. Though this may have been isolated, after we left we still received emails from the RV park stating that kids were doing this and them receiving continued complaints. At least they addressed it and we left on a Monday.
Two nights we heard coyotes howling super melodic, but they stay away as most people had fires and/or were outside.
Perfect place for our maiden voyage. Would come again for sure, during a new moon with a telescope, and , just in case, on a Thursday!
This place was amazing! A little tight to get into with our 42’ toy hauler, but not too difficult by any means. We LOVED our pull through spot. The night hosts were so great and hospitable and we had trees for shade! This was our fav dry camping in an rv park so far.
Beautiful RV park located in Lajitas. It has an outdoor pool and when we went in May, the water was cold but it was nice to float in the pool. The staff were very helpful. It was already starting to get hot at the beginning of May.
The stars are so bright at night and you can easily see the milky way galaxy.
