Perfect Spot for a weekend in Marfa

Booked two nights at MYC on a whim, after we cut our stay at Big Bend short, and ended up adding another day we enjoyed it so much. The sites are thoughtfully laid out: even though they're close together, they're staggered so each site has unobstructed views. There are structures at each site for the RVs--would definitely help with the heat in the summer and we loved having the extra space around the camper during a rain storm. The roof does trap the sound of air conditioning, and this could cause some annoyance between neighbors who don't agree on whether it's nice enough to sleep with the windows open.

I didn't get to check out the pool because of the weather, but still enjoyed the quirkiness of a shipping container pool. The laundry/bathroom facilities were not completed but will be a nice additions once they're available.

We traveled into Marfa each day and loved the town. The one downside was the road leading to the MYC--it was gravel and when we were there, suffered from washboarding that really jostled things around in the trailer. More than an annoyance than anything, hope that it's fixed next time we stay!

Perfect Solitude in Marfa

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 4 Local Attraction Proximity: 4 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 3 Customer Service: 4 Cleanliness: 5

This campground is very small with just 8 covered RV pads available with a limit of 32' length. They were "designed with the Airstream in mind" but they seem to be open to any type of trailers as there were 2 non-Airstreamers during our stay. They have their own Airstreams available for rent through AirBnB or else you can bring your own trailer and pull into one of their paved slips. Reserving a site was easy via email and texting with the owner. It was completely contactless and they gave us thorough instructions on how to access the grounds and where to find our site.

They offer 50/30 amps, full hookups, and WiFi. For $50/night right on the outskirts of central Marfa (about 2.5 miles from the center of town), we found the price to be mostly reasonable for the paved, covered spot. We understand the town can be a tourist hot spot so prices are a little higher reflecting that. COVID prevented use of any shared areas, but they seemed to have a common grilling/patio area. They offer two Adirondack chairs at each site, which adds a nice touch. The grounds are on a large open lot and surrounded by ranch lands. The views of the night sky are bar none. Access to the grounds is via a graded dirt road that was very muddy when we left as we had rain for 3 days straight. It did not make access to the grounds difficult, though. Make sure you heed their instructions on how to access the grounds as one of the access roads shown on Google maps actually takes you over high-clearance railroad tracks that could cause RV damage.

A perfect spot for home base to visit Marfa and take in the night sky reserve!
