Best RV Parks & Resorts near Santee, SC

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Santee State Park offers two distinct RV campgrounds on the shores of Lake Marion. Cypress View Campground features paved roads with gravel pull-through sites that accommodate larger RVs, while providing water and electric hookups with a central dump station. New Green Acres RV Park in Walterboro provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service and concrete pads suitable for big rigs. Palmetto Shores RV Resort maintains year-round availability with water, sewer, and electric connections including 50-amp service for larger motorhomes. "All sites are large concrete pads, FHU. Most sites are spaced very well, some better than others but you won't be on top of anyone whichever site you're at," noted a visitor about Weston Lake Recreation Area.

Several RV parks near Santee require advance reservations during peak seasons, particularly those with lake access or fishing opportunities. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, some campgrounds have inconsistent cellular service, with Verizon typically providing the most reliable coverage at 2-4 bars. Most RV sites in the region offer picnic tables and fire rings, though some visitors mention challenges with unlevel sites. RV's Acres accommodates only two sites but provides 30-amp electric and water hookups for smaller rigs. Pet-friendly policies are standard across most parks, though weight or breed restrictions may apply at military recreation areas. Dump stations are available at larger facilities, while smaller parks may require using nearby public disposal points.

    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Nice sites!

Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible. Very open and quiet. Several long-term residents.

    Tiny Town RV Campground

    Nice Campground, Great Location

Family owned RV campground with full hook-ups and a food truck on the property! We were there on a Thursday evening and had delicious chicken street tacos. Easy to get in and out of the campground with our 28 foot travel trailer. Pull thru, level sites. Peaceful location surrounded by trees. You can hear the birds chirping and the neighbor's rooster while you sit outside enjoying the morning sun. All the sites have 20, 30 and 50 amp power, and a water hook up. The plumbing at each site is housed in whiskey barrels which we thought was a clever idea. Most sites had sewer as well. We had a picnic table and fire ring at our site also. Our Verizon phones worked fine with 4G, two bars. The campground is new, and small(16 sites) which we liked. The owners have plans to add activities and events in the near future but it currently has everything an RV camper would need. They were working on an axe throwing building and an activity area for kids when we were there. It's in a great location for exploring Summerville or Charleston, or for spending the day at one of the many nearby beaches. They offer a discount if staying a week which is wonderful since there is so much to do in the nearby towns.

    Eagle's RV Campground

    Ranger Review: Eagle’s RV Campground

We called to reserve a week long stay and were told they had sites available, which turned out was only one. The campground is definitely a “no frills” park and mostly used by long term/permanent residents. The host/owner had us pull right next to his own rig, it was a tight fit and we had zero privacy. He then proceeded to sit on his RV stairs and smoke and stare at us both when we were outside and when we were in our rig. We could smell the smoke which isn’t ok with us. We didn’t even bother to put the slides out. When we set up the electricity we had fire ants attack us. We decided quickly that we’d only stay the night and we’d leave first thing in the morning. Across the street is a nice state park and campground (Colleton State Park) but they unfortunately didn’t have any sites open big enough for our 30 ft class A. I’d recommend staying there over this campground if you want to be in this exact area. We luckily found another campground closer to Charleston to stay at.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Consistent excellence

I live 10 minutes from Sesqui and visit the dogpark daily. I stay in the campsite are in my 20ft Travel trailer 2 or 3 times a year. Staff is responsive to camper needs.  Plenty of drive-through, front entry and back-in sites, all with power and water.  Excellent shower and toi l et buildings. Privacy and low noise are consistent. Price is low for us seniors and disabled.  Small lake for paddle boating and fishing.

    We will be back!

Even though we had a few rainy days we could see the beauty of this park. Clean heated restrooms in Winter is a bonus. Lots of things to do for all ages. Helpful and friendly staff.

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Colleton State Park Campground

Really well-kept quiet little state park

This one one of the cutest, most well-maintained State Park Campgrounds we’ve been to. The groundskeeper Larry is the nicest man and was so welcoming from booking to departure. You can tell he takes pride in caring for his site. There’s a nice big field for the dogs to play in and we were able to rent kayaks from the outfitter across the creek to explore the Edisto River. There’s a good burger place 3 miles down the road (Lee’s) too. The cell and WiFi worked great for full time remote work and locationally Colleton is about 1 hour between Charleston, Savannah, and Congaree National Park. I think this is also the smallest state park in South Carolina.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Cypress View Campground

This is one of the two campgrounds at Santee State Park, and it is as different from the other as night and day. Unlike the dirt roads at Lakeshore Campground(the other campground in the park) the roads in Cypress View are paved. The sites are gravel, and many of them are pull-through sites. Although tent camping is allowed in Cypress View, I would feel out of place since most of the campers are RVs. However, our teardrop camper fits right in. Cypress View is a much smaller campground than Lakeshore Campground, but the amenities are the same. Every campsite is a short walk from the lake, and the campground is closer to the store than Lakeshore Campground. Unlike Lakeshore Campground, Cypress View Campground’s sites are much closer together, so there is not as much privacy. The campground is quiet, other than the noise from the highway.   That may be one reason to be in an RV or a travel trailer--to cut out some of the noise at night.

Close to the campground, there is a tennis court, a boat launch, Fisheagle Tours, a picnic shelter, kayak rentals, hiking trails, and more. It is conveniently located to most of the state park’s attractions without having to drive so far. Cypress View Campground is also close to the main office and the boat dock.

If you had rather stay in a cabin, there are cabin rentals on the water. They are accessed by way of a boardwalk across the water. The bath house is modern and has hot showers. It is centrally located so that it isn’t that far of a walk from any of the campsites.

Overall, I do recommend this campground, especially if you are in a travel trailer or an RV. If you are tent camper, you would probably better enjoy being at the other campground in the park.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Needs improvements

Not a big rig friendly area. Our site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side. Had I known this ahead of time, I could have maybe pulled in another way. The service from another site was less than 3 feet from my power inlet to the camper. I called to make sure it would be ok to plug in there and they said no, even though no one used that site. The bathhouse was well below standards and really just unusable. I’ll pick another place if I’m ever in the area again.

Guide to Santee

Santee, South Carolina RV parks sit near Lake Marion, the state's largest freshwater lake at 110,000 acres. The lake forms part of the Santee Cooper Lakes system along with Lake Moultrie, connected by a 6.5-mile diversion canal. Summer temperatures often exceed 90°F, making water activities particularly popular during peak camping season from May through September.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Palmetto Shores RV Resort provides direct lake access for anglers. "Beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water during nice weather," notes Danielle S., highlighting the waterfront setting that attracts fishing enthusiasts.

Canal exploration: Hill's Landing & RV Park sits between Lakes Marion and Moultrie on the Diversion Canal. "Located about 1.5 hour northwest of Charleston, you will find complete respite from the bustling developed world out here in these parts where there's plenty of hiking, fishing and boating to be had," explains one reviewer who appreciates the strategic location.

Wildlife viewing: Natural areas around Santee campgrounds support diverse wildlife. At RV's Acres, visitors report regular animal sightings: "The last time I was here (4 days ago) 2 does & a fawn came lopping/walking through the property." The private pond on this property allows catch-and-release fishing.

What campers like

Pool and recreation areas: Big Rig Friendly RV Resort offers extensive facilities. "Awesome gym and club house plus beautiful pool! Staff are very friendly and welcoming!" reports Bill M. Despite being newer, the resort has established itself with comprehensive amenities.

Spacious sites: Many campers praise the site sizes at rv parks near Santee. "All the sites are large, level and clean," notes a Big Rig Friendly visitor. Similarly, at New Green Acres, one camper mentioned, "These spots were huge right next to highway but noise doesn't bother us."

Natural settings: Jolly Acres RV Park & Storage provides a rural camping experience. "A very peaceful and friendly atmosphere in a country setting," writes Jack M., mentioning the fishing pond available to guests and noting the "pet friendly" environment with "a playground for the kids to play."

What you should know

Cellular coverage: Connectivity varies widely between Santee area campgrounds. At New Green Acres RV Park, "Wifi only works right at the office, which is a bummer," reports one camper, while others note Verizon service typically performs best in the area.

Highway noise: Several campgrounds near major routes experience traffic noise. New Green Acres sits "right off 95, so it's not quiet," though the same reviewer appreciated that "it is green instead of gravel."

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat can be intense at many Santee area rv parks. Foster Creek RV Park campers note challenges with this: "The site is very hot due to no trees." Plan accordingly with shade structures or select naturally shaded sites when available.

Military restrictions: Some campgrounds have eligibility requirements. Foster Creek requires military affiliation, with one camper clarifying: "Would be great but as stated you must qualify to stay."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several Santee area RV parks feature dedicated children's areas. Jolly Acres offers a "super cool playground with an awesome swing," according to Alesha H., who found the facilities suitable for their 35-foot RV.

Dog-friendly amenities: Tiny Town RV Campground provides dedicated pet areas. "2 dog runs, fire pit, sand box for the kiddos," notes a visitor who appreciated the family-friendly setup at this smaller 16-site campground.

Water recreation: Palmetto Shores RV Resort offers multiple water options for families. "Palmetto shores has a nice outdoor activity area, a nice lake beach and a really nice pool and lazy River," writes one camper who enjoyed the variety of water-based recreation.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Prepare for varying site conditions at Santee RV parks. At New Green Acres, visitors note "No rock or concrete pad to park on so be prepared to level your RV." Bring leveling blocks and stabilizers.

Easy access points: Travelers appreciate convenient stops near major routes. New Green Acres provides "Easy Easy in and out. Quiet even tho close to I95," mentions one reviewer who found the price "very reasonable" with the ability to "Walk to Cracker Barrel."

Site selection strategy: When making reservations at heavily wooded campgrounds, communicate your specific needs. One experienced camper at New Green Acres advises: "This park has really really long spaces. It's great for when towing a long trailer too but be mindful that there is a whole pile of trees. So when making reservations make sure you let them know you need something long but also easily accessible too."
