Little Pee Dee State Park Campground

A quiet and clean state park

Little Pee Dee State Park is a quiet and clean campground on the banks of Lake Norton. Locals often come here for fishing and non-motorized boating.  We were fortunate to witness a mass crayfish event--the recent flooding had brought them out of the swamp and up the spillway, much to the delight of seafood lovers.

The campground had two different campground hosts, and they kept the restrooms and campsites immaculately clean.

Campsites have a fire ring/grate and a picnic table, but no trash cans, and you'll need to bring your trash to a large bin located at the edge of the campsites.

There are some nice sites right at the edge of Lake Norton, but the abundant water plants don't allow you to fish from the side of the lake, and it's not really a swimming lake. These sites accommodate RVs and have water & electric.  If you're on a budget, there are tent-only sites off the water.

The campground recently built a sleeping cabin, which is a cute structure with air conditioning/heat, bunk beds, and a free-standing bed (the cabin sleeps four, total). Guests can use a fire ring and Adirondack chairs, hammock, and grill.

The park also has a nice shelter for use.

There is no WiFi here, and cellular internet is spotty. There isn't a camp store, but the Ranger Station does have ice, firewood, and a small number of souvenirs for sale.

    Myrtle Beach KOA

    Rustic Cabin Check in delay

We just visited the Myrtle Beach KOA and stayed in one of their rustic camping cabins. First the good — The staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The campground was generally clean and there was a reasonable amount of space between the sites. Now the bad — we arrived at 4:30pm to check in and found that the camp store closed at 4:00pm - everyday. For those who forgot something or needed to pick up some ice or other necessity, you would have to leave the campground to get it. Second; upon arrival (4:30) we were told that none of the rustic cabins were ready and to come back in an hour. Not a great way to be welcomed. Next, the shower/bath house appeared clean but there was a distinct smell that made it feel like it might not have been that clean. Finally, the KOA is right downtown, so there is a good deal of noise from outside the campground. Lots of sirens, fireworks, and engine noise from US 17(Business). Final analysis: We really don’t like Myrtle Beach (too much of a tourist trap) and we probably wouldn’t come back. We were only there because I had some work to do in the area and needed a less expensive place to stay.

    Huntington Beach State Park Campground

    WE love this place

You are a sand dune away from the ocean, you pass over a causeway to get to the SP and Campground.  There are alligators on both sides of the causeway, multiple birds lurking and flying in and out along the causeway with viewing places.  The campground is very nice, most sites have NO sewer sites but they have water and electric.  There are a few sites with sewer sites and there is, of course, a sewer dump station.  The beach is gorgeous and LONG!!!  You are not far from Myrtle Beach, from Georgetown and about 2 hours away from Charleston SC.  Great place.

    Myrtle Beach Travel Park

    Good for the price

This is a pretty good RV park the Myrtle Beach area is one of our favorite places to go to RV parks and this is one of the ones that offers the ability to rent golf carts and also go close to the beach you still have to hike a little bit it's not as close as Pirate Land or the one that has the pier but it's pretty close it has a nice pool and it has some good facilities. We did have some issue getting delivery here as they wouldn't let the doordash drivers in we had to meet them at the gate.

Bathrooms: 4/5 clean but no AC so it smells a bit like pee the time

Sites: 3/5 super close no cable just water electric and sewer

    Pools: 5/5

Beach: 3/5 good but not as close as it should be for the price

    Waterfrontness: 1/5

Closeness to other sites: 1/5 you are up each other's buttcracks

    Dog rating: 4/5

Internet: no provided internet but we were able to use our ATnT hotspot router

Cell service: 5/5 Google Fi & ATnT worked

Water quality: 2/5 definitely beach water.

Extra amenities: Golf cart rentals, kayak rentals, paddle boat rentals, bike rentals, scooter rentals, fishing rod rentals, iced by, laundry facilities, Putt-Putt.

    Pirateland Family Camping Resort

    Perfect ocean front spot

Very nice park! We had ocean front spot site 695. Spot was sandy and looked a little sketchy to back into, looks as if someone got stuck. We ended up backing up just fine with no problems and pulled out just fine as well. Bathrooms were close and very clean, great water pressure. They pick your trash right at your spot every morning. Had a minor electrical problem, called and they were right there vey quick and fixed the issue. Lots of things to do, Pool, lazy river, splash pad, and kayak/peddle boats. Putt putt cost money but it’s available. Gulf cart rentals as well. The ocean beach is so beautiful and it was not busy. Just a perfect spot. I recommend going to Broadway on the beach for things to do in the area.

We did how ever have family fly in and rented a cabin. Sharon from the office was not so friendly she only deals with cabin rentals so if your here to camp in campground it’s a great place!

    Myrtle Beach KOA

    Great location and amenities!

This campground is in a great location. Just 3 blocks from the beach. They have a shuttle that runs every hour. We chose to rent a golf cart while we were there which you are allowed to take outside of the campground. You just have to stay on roads that are 35mph and under. We really enjoyed cruising around and to the beach on it.

All of the other popular attractions are super close by. The longest drive we had to get to anything was 10 mins.

They also have a great pool, splash pad, jumping pillow, playground, and other scheduled kids activites. In addition there is a amphitheater where they have live music on certain nights. Another fun surprise was that they have free pancakes every morning from 9am-10am in the seating area by their small restaurant.

We stayed in a deluxe patio site which was great. Especially with the rain storms that are inevitable at the beach. Someone else in our party was at a full hookup back in site, and it got pretty swampy with the rain in those sites. The deluxe patio site came with a fire ring with two chairs, a small table with 2 chairs, and a Weber grill to use, which was nice so we didn’t have to dirty ours.

The ground were well maintained, and even during the rain storms you would always see groundskeepers hard at work.

They are currently working on updating some of the cabins, and freshening up paint and such around the campground. I am excited to see how it looks the next we go.

I would highly recommend staying here for your Myrtle Beach vacation.

    Willow Tree RV Resort

    My favorite camping experience!

This place is wonderful if you camp in an RV. No tents or pop-ups allowed. 😢 The sites are huge and along the lake where I camped, they are angled so that you don’t really see much of your neighbors. Swim beach, pools, game room, laundry, fitness room, patio with table and grill, store, daily trash pickup at your sites, full hookup sites, paved path around the lake , great staff, storage for RV available. Pricey but worth it. Short drive to Myrtle Beach (but I stay away from there)

Guide to Myrtle Beach

Cabin camping near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina offers oceanfront and inland options within a short drive of beaches and attractions. Most coastal cabin rentals sit within large family campgrounds that can accommodate over 30,000 guests daily during peak season. Winter cabin rental rates typically drop by 30-50% while still providing access to heated facilities at many larger resorts.

What to do

Beach activities year-round: Pirateland Family Camping Resort cabins place guests within walking distance of the Atlantic. "We had a great spot; right on the beach. The park was huge, seemed like a thousand spaces. Would be very overwhelming in the summer time," notes reviewer Alana F., highlighting the direct beach access available from many cabins.

Water parks without leaving camp: Ocean Lakes Family Campground maintains extensive water facilities for cabin guests. "The water park/pool was awesome. My husband and I floated in the giant lazy river as our kids used the water slides and splash area," explains Samantha O., detailing the multiple water options available within the property boundaries.

Historic exploration nearby: Huntington Beach State Park cabins serve as a base for touring Atalaya Castle. "Great beach. Castle to explore on site. Beautiful scenery. Great bike trails," mentions Adriane P., pointing out the cultural attractions accessible from park cabins.

What campers like

Private pier access: Apache Family Campground cabins include complimentary pier passes. "They have a large pier for fishing located in the campground and if you are staying there they will provide tickets so you can use the pier," explains Gary G., noting the value-added amenity for fishing enthusiasts.

Golf cart transportation: Many cabin properties allow or rent golf carts to transport guests around expansive grounds. "Rent a golf cart and ride around. Make sure to decorate it because there is a cart parade every night from 9-11," suggests Blake K. from Pirateland, describing the evening social activities centered around decorated carts.

Evening entertainment: Myrtle Beach Travel Park schedules regular cabin guest activities. "Excellent pool and lazy river, arcade, games, pool activities, Fun Entertainment such as Karaoke, bands, DJ parties," reports Wendy M., detailing the structured evening options available after beach time.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Peak season cabin availability becomes extremely limited 6-8 months in advance. "We stayed for a week and it was a lot of fun. Rent a golf cart and ride around," advises Blake K., suggesting planning both accommodations and add-ons well before arrival.

Cabin spacing considerations: Cabin proximity varies significantly between properties. "This is a massive campground! On average when school is out they have over 30,000 campers a day!!" explains Eric H. from Ocean Lakes Family Campground, emphasizing the high-density environment during summer months.

Noise levels and quiet hours: Most properties enforce strict quiet times. "Noise times are 7am-11pm. The good thing about this is at 11pm everything is quiet. No one is on the roads. All golf carts go away and people settle down for the night," notes Samantha O., specifying the regulated noise controls.

Tips for camping with families

Prioritize concrete cabin pads: Sand management becomes easier with solid foundations. "The concrete pad was very nice to have because the sand was hard to keep up with. I couldn't imagine how much sand there would have been in the camper if we were on sand," explains Samantha O., providing practical advice about cabin selection.

Pool scheduling systems: Sun Outdoors Myrtle Beach (formerly Carolina Pines) implements reservation systems for amenities. "This is a true resort. It has indoor pools, outdoor pools, waterslide, putt putt, bowling alley, and an arcade," reports Michele P., describing the structured activity planning needed for families.

Bathhouse proximity: Cabin locations relative to bathroom facilities affect convenience. "Bath houses are nice and clean, climate controlled bath houses, beautiful beach access!" notes Terri S., highlighting the importance of selecting cabins with nearby facilities.

Tips from RVers

Off-season cabin value: Winter cabin stays offer significant savings. "We stayed at Carolina Pines 4 times with the last time being for a month. It was a wonderful experience with the staff providing activities, especially on the weekends," mentions Deb P., pointing out the extended-stay possibilities during lower-demand periods.

Security considerations: Barefoot RV Resort maintains controlled access to cabin areas. "It is a gated campground. The sites are spacious and concrete pad for trailer, tow vehicle and picnic tables. Fire pits are nice," explains Dee A., noting the security features protecting cabin guests and their vehicles.

Laundry facilities: Several properties offer cabin guests access to commercial washing machines. "The laundromat was clean. Didn't use the showers but they were nice too," reports Dee A., describing the practical amenities available to cabin guests during longer stays.
