Lake Wateree State Park Campground provides pet-friendly accommodations with well-maintained sites and clean facilities. The park allows dogs in all camping areas, including tent sites and RV spots with water and electric hookups. Pets must remain leashed throughout the campground, though they can enjoy the shaded areas surrounding most campsites. Andrew Jackson State Park Campground also accommodates pets with designated pet-friendly sites for tent campers and RV travelers. Both parks require owners to clean up after their animals and keep them under control at all times. Campgrounds feature picnic tables, fire rings, and access to bathhouses. Lake Wateree's lakefront campsites offer opportunities for dogs to cool off in designated swimming areas during hot summer months. The grounds are fairly flat, making it convenient for walking dogs.

Wateree Lake RV Park & Marina features full hookup sites where pets can be exercised along the shoreline. Multiple walking trails wind through wooded areas near most campgrounds, giving pets plenty of opportunities for exercise. Dog owners should be prepared with waste bags as some campgrounds have limited waste stations. The region experiences hot, humid summers, so morning or evening walks are recommended for pets. Shaded campsites help keep pets comfortable during peak heat. Chester State Park Campground offers additional pet-friendly options with access to wooded trails. Visitors note the campground can be busy on weekends but relatively quiet during weekdays, making weekday visits preferable for those with anxious pets. All campgrounds require current vaccination records for pets.

      Dreher Island State Park Campground

      Camper Cabins R Great!

My bf and I rented a camper cabin-electricity, heat, air, bunkbeds + full bed…secluded from the rest of the park, located on its own loop, separate showers(2) + 3 stalls + changing room in the public restrooms…AND IT WAS ALL VERY CLEAN! Very helpful and friendly park rangers available, but not “in your face” 😉 We had a wonderful time! Kayaking, paddle boarding(both mine) and brought our boat to put in at their small, but efficient, Marina! Beautifully well kept grounds…but left to age untrained on ginormously stellar Lake Murray, South Carolina(Mid-state) I would HIGHLY recommend a visit/stay to this family, pet, everyone friendly State Park!!!

      Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

In the middle of Columbia SC

Built to celebrate the Sesquicentennial of South Carolina in the 30’s . At one time on the furthest outskirts of Columbia SC. It is now firmly in the muddle of the Metro area. Plenty of trailer sites. Tent site and primitive camping. Has recreational areas. Restaurants and shopping nearby

      Dreher Island State Park Campground

      Peaceful, but a little busy

This campground is a popular spot in South Carolina. Campsites are pretty close together but it's usually peaceful - lakeside sites, good fishing, but be prepared for the mosquitos!

      Dreher Island State Park Campground

      Family Adventures on Lake Murray

I loved how Dreher Island State Park in South Carolina gave our family the best of both safety and fun, with shaded, roomy sites that included picnic tables, fire rings and well-kept bathhouses that made camping easy with kids. The campground sits right on Lake Murray, so the kids spent hours swimming, skipping rocks and spotting herons, while short hiking trails gave them just enough adventure without wearing them out. With boat ramps, fishing spots and wide-open lake views, it felt like a true escape, yet I had peace of mind knowing everything was family-friendly and close by when we needed it. Evenings ended around the campfire with tired, happy kids and a beautiful lakeside sunset.  I would highly recommend this place!

Very cute place in Kinard, SC

Office was very friendly. They take you to your site which we always so appreciate. Hookups are modern, nice dog park, propane tank for easy fill ups. Fresh donuts anytime, pizza and chicken wings (bone in and bone out) til 6. Very clean and well maintained. Site was perfect for our 43’ Motorhome and dolly. Would definitely stay again.

      Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

      Decent campground

Busy park, but if you're visiting the Columbia area a fine place to stop. They have a dog park and our pup loved getting to run off leash. Campsites are pretty close together and some are a little on top of each other but we were in spot 79. It was a pull through and the living space was separated a bit more. It was across from the bathhouse which is quite convenient.

    Guide to Great Falls

Lake Wateree State Park offers several pet-friendly camping options within 20 miles of Great Falls, South Carolina. The park sits at approximately 230 feet above sea level in the Piedmont region. Summer temperatures typically range from 85-95°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop below freezing between December and February.

    What to do

Fishing from shoreline access: At Chester State Park Campground, campers can fish from dedicated areas along the lake. "The lake from the campground has a fairly new access via a ADA compliant walkway with lighting leading to swings, benches and Adirondack chairs surrounding a rock fire pit. There are benches facing the lake for sitting and or fishing," notes Bill C.

Disc golf course: Chester State Park features a professional disc golf course that winds through wooded areas. "There are several trails, and you can rent boats, peddle boats, canoes, and kayaks. There is also a disc golf course. If I had known beforehand, I would have taken my own discs," shares Myron C.

Paddling on Lake Wateree: Cane Creek Park offers kayak rentals for day use. "I load up my kayak once a month or so and paddle around the lake for hours. Trails, shelter areas, and bathrooms are always well taken care of," mentions Emily B. The park has multiple water access points for launching personal watercraft.

    What campers like

Quiet weekday camping: Weekday visits provide a more peaceful experience at most area campgrounds. "This campground tends to be booked solid on weekends so important to make reservations. Also not much for stores close by so pack well," advises Ramona K. about Lake Wateree State Park.

Clean bathhouse facilities: Andrew Jackson State Park Campground maintains well-kept facilities despite its small size. "Bathrooms and showers are clean and staff are friendly and helpful! We will be returning soon! The park is located approximately 20 miles from Rock Hill and 30 miles from Charlotte so there is plenty to see and do," writes Laura A.

Level camping sites: Many area campgrounds offer relatively flat camping areas. "We have been camping here for years snd we love the camp ground. The grounds are fairly flat so bike riding is great," says Teresa G. about her experiences camping in the region.

    What you should know

Limited cell service: Some campgrounds have spotty connectivity. "No WiFi and rarely did we have cell service but that's not a bad thing! Large sites with some pull through," explains Ramona K. Signal tends to be stronger at campgrounds closer to Interstate 77.

Weekend availability challenges: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially between April and October. "It is relatively small and reservations are difficult to get," notes Kevin B. about Lake Wateree State Park Campground.

Seasonal insect activity: Mosquitoes can be prevalent in summer months. "Only negative was I that I was bitten up by mosquitoes and I used bug spray (obviously I need a better kind) and citronella buckets," shares one camper. Bug activity is typically highest from June through September.
