Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

    Good location

Location: This park is close to Ithaca which was the best part. Trails and Natural Features: We loved the waterfall, swimming area (seasonal so closed when we stayed), and the fall colors. Sites: They have very few electric sites so we decided to boondock. It surprised me that all the full hookup sites were reserved but very people actually showed up for their reservations while we stayed. Lame. And heads up that if you don’t stay in the big clearing for big rigs, there are tight turns between trees to get in and out of the non-electric sites. We ended up making a back-in site into a pull-through site… whoops. Starlink: I work remotely so internet is important. We weren’t camping in the clearing because those sites were booked, but even the Starlink struggled where we were and I ended up working from the library in town. So heads up if you need internet. Bathrooms: They were spacious but older. Temperature in the showers was tricky. Hot is cold and cold it hot. Cool stuff: They had compost bins and provide bags for all campers. That’s cool!

    Great Four Day Camp

We spent four nights here (May 13-17, 2022). This is a nice, well run, family oriented CG (a lot of kids on the weekend) with reasonably level pull through and back-in gravel sites (quite a few long term campers).

There are many activities available: swimming pool, recreation hall, fishing pond, biking, hiking/walking, mini golf, jumping pillow, playground, basketball, shuffleboard and more.

The office store is nice (ice cream and pizza made to order!). The laundry room was clean. We did not make use of the bathrooms or showers.

Golf carts are available for rent so there was a lot of traffic(some towing portable waste tanks).

Pay attention to the Theme Weekend Events– they will be crowded and there could be an additional fee. We were charged$20 for the Care Camp Weekend.

The cable TV and WiFi were good as was cell phone reception.

    We would stay here again.

    Stony MT Family Campground

    We’d do it again!

Not cheap but we’ll within area norms. This camp has many long term campers that are friendly and helpful and some have children with them. Some full-time rigs are weekend campers. Some weekend events are planned. Most sites have full hookups with 50 amp electric only so if needed have an adapter (available at the small camp store. We had an unplanned extension on our visit that included a weekend where a group was scheduled and the park was booked including our site. The friendly staff worked to ensure a temporary site for us for the weekend.

    Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground

Great campground in PA northern tier

The owners do a fantastic job keeping the campground shipshape. Restrooms/showers are immaculate any time of day. Heated swimming pool and the splash pad for kiddies is spotless as well. Nice, pull-through on gravel pad withfull-hookups that can take large rigs. Lake is lovely for fishing/kayaks/canoes. Seasonal campers are tidy. Only a few tent sites with water & electricity tucked into woods. Larger pull-through sites don't get a lot of shade, but there are back-in sites for shorter campers in wooded sites and shaded lake front, as well. Campground store sells ice-cream & nachos and supplies. Campground is pretty quiet during the week, but fills up on weekends with guests using own (or renting) golf carts. Activities on weekends. The campground sits atop one of NEPA's "rolling hills" in quiet, rural farming area. Cell service is spotty. Local winery/cafe just down the road for tastings and lunch. Row boat, paddle boat rentals.

    Williamsport South-Nittany Mountain KOA

    Wooded campground

Very wooded campground. Gravel pad was narrow so the picnic table was within two feet of the trailer side. We had a pull through site that was uneven front to back so that our tongue jack was all the way down to get level enough. Side to side it was fine. The playground was excellent. The camp store was new looking and well stocked. The staff was friendly.

No breed restrictions for dogs. The dog park was good.

    Riverside Campground & Riverside Roadhouse

    Very Nice RV Park

Very clean and we'll managed campground. Sites are a little close in some areas, but are nice. WSE at leach sure. There are cute cabins and a tent area. Great restaurant on site with music on weekends with local bands or DJs. New Owners have worked hard to improve the park. There are no permanent sites, but they do have seasonal sites. Everything from pop ups to big rigs can be seen. Nice clean pool and rest rooms. Clean well equipped laundry. Park is close to hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and larger and small towns. Huge playground ajoins the Park. Staff is friendly and helpful.

    Happy Acres Resort

Nestled in the mountains of PA

Stayed for 5 nights with a partial hook up for our brand new 32 foot travel trailer. Other reviewers had mentioned that sites were small, so we specifically asked for a larger site. We ended up getting a corner site right on the edge of a hill looking down on the main office and playground. It was perfect. Playground was huge with multiple playsets suitable for all ages. Bathrooms/showers we're clean and well kept. There was a basketball court, shuffleboard and carpet pool that you could borrow equipment for. Our son and his family rented a wolf den cabin and it was very clean as well. Internet access was spotty, as expected but WiFi at the main office was good. We enjoyed the small, but very clean pool. Would definitely go back. Pet friendly, but there isn't a dog park/off leash area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Right across the street from little pine state park.

    Ferenbaugh Campground

    Relaxing place to stay

This CG has two distinct sections. Near the entrance is the Pull Through Area. Behind a row of trees there are several sites with full hookups including cable TV and Wi-Fi. The sites are open, reasonably level, and a good size. The other sites are in the woods, most of these sites do not have sewer connections. There is a honey wagon service available. We camped with a relative who was new and we were teaching them how to operate their camper. We had a couple of dry days then some rain. Still was a great teaching/learning experience.

Make sure you use a water filter, there was a lot of sediment in the water when we were there. See pictures of 4 days on a new cartridge.

We had a fantastic sunrise one morning.

Guide to Granville Summit

Camping near Granville Summit, Pennsylvania offers diverse outdoor experiences in the Endless Mountains region with elevations reaching 1,900 feet. Seasonal temperature fluctuations impact camping conditions significantly, with summer highs averaging 78°F and winter lows often dropping below 15°F. Fall foliage typically peaks mid-October, creating high-traffic periods at most campgrounds.

What to do

Hiking diverse waterfalls: Worlds End State Park Campground (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/pennsylvania-worlds-end-state-park) offers access to numerous waterfall trails with varying difficulty levels. "We came for the hiking and there are numerous trails in both the state park and neighboring Loyalsock State Forest, some of which are accessible from the campgrounds," notes a camper who appreciated the well-marked trails.

Fishing without permits: Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/pine-cradle-lake-family-campground) offers catch-and-release fishing without requiring a Pennsylvania license. "You can rent non-electric boats and they offer catch & release fishing without a PA license in the lake. My son caught 2 sunfish," shares a visitor.

Disconnecting intentionally: Many campgrounds offer limited connectivity, making them perfect for digital detox. "No cell service, which is refreshing," notes a Worlds End camper who appreciated the break from technology. Another camper at Pine Cradle Lake mentioned, "There is very very little cell reception and only wifi if you pay for it. We had to put our phones and devices down and just relax."

What campers like

Private camping spots: Pioneer Campground (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/pioneer-campground-pa) provides secluded sites with more privacy than typical RV parks. "Our tent site was secluded and quiet, but not too far off the beaten path," reports a camper. Others noted it's "back a long lane from the main road so it is quiet and peaceful."

Clean facilities: Ricketts Glen State Park Campground (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/pennsylvania-ricketts-glen-state-park) maintains well-kept restrooms that campers consistently praise. A reviewer noted, "The bathhouse was clean but not adequate for 73 sites. The campground was about ¾ full and there was often a wait in the bathroom."

Family activities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park PA Wilds (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/bucktail-camping-resort) offers numerous organized events. "The big playground is new and very nice. The small one is mainly two very big playsets (pirate ship and castle). Two jumping pillows were awesome. Pool was cold but fun," describes a family that visited during the renovations.

What you should know

Seasonal water issues: At Ricketts Glen, water quality problems occasionally arise. "The water had been tested earlier in the season and unsafe levels of manganese were detected. All water spigots were shut off and covered but we were told it was safe to wash our dishes and brush our teeth," reports a camper.

Site selection matters: When RV camping near Granville Summit, Pennsylvania, choosing the right site impacts your experience. Pioneer Campground campers advise: "I would suggest getting there while it is still light out, there is plenty of room on the roads to get your rig around the campground, but there are lots of trees and it gets a little hard sometimes to see where the road is vs a site."

Alcohol policies vary: State parks maintain strict alcohol regulations while private campgrounds may be more lenient. A Ricketts Glen camper warned, "Alcohol is strictly forbidden– we were warned that if a ranger saw any alcohol outside of our vehicle, we would be cited."

Tips for camping with families

Private bathrooms preferred: Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/pine-cradle-lake-family-campground) offers individual bathroom/shower combinations that families appreciate. "The restrooms were fantastic, the buildings held two complete rooms with a toilet sink and shower in each. It's the only shower camping this year my 4yr old wasn't afraid of because we had the whole room to ourselves."

Halloween camping: Several campgrounds offer special Halloween events. "We love decorating the sites and taking the kids trick or treating. They do a haunted woods that we felt the kids were too young for," shares a Pioneer camper who established a family tradition at their fall events.

Campgrounds with splash pads: Water features provide entertainment for children. "We enjoyed fishing and kayaking in the lake, the heated pool and splash pad, spacious sites and clean amenities," noted a family camping at Pine Cradle Lake.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: When RV camping in the Granville Summit area, plan to arrive during daylight. "The entry road to the campground itself is a very steep, narrow road with a small curve at the top. It's well-maintained but keep an eye out for campers coming down," warns a Jellystone Park visitor.

Leveling equipment: Pioneer Campground (https://thedyrt.com/camping/pennsylvania/pioneer-campground-pa) campers suggest bringing proper leveling equipment: "The sites are a bit larger than average and are pretty level, but make sure to bring leveling blocks."

Dump station alternatives: During busy weekends, dump stations can become congested. "There is only one dump station, but the owner John was going around pumping people out Sunday morning when the line to the dump station was long," reports a grateful Pioneer camper.
