GuideMy family of 4 stopped at the Leonard Harrison campground for a 2-night camp while on our way to Maine from Indiana. It was a lovely 2-night stay and awesome area to explore as we discovered the “Pennsylvania Grand Canyon”!!! Who knew!?
The campground is situated directly next to the beautiful and accessible overlook area with new restrooms and completely new outdoor area to explore the canyon views and get direct access to hiking trails. It also had a new nature center that my kids enjoyed.
The campground had nice & clean restrooms and shower areas. And a larger room that’s perfect for camping families with little ones so you can shower & use the restroom all in a one single, larger secure room.
There was a cute little playground onsite. And the ranger station was next to the campground with friendly staff giving trail maps, advice and directions.
100% recommend exploring this area AND driving to nearby Kolten State Park. It has amazing outlook views and trails that are fun and run along the canyon.
If you’re a cyclist- definitely ride the nearby paved Pine Creek Trail. My husband rode a century on his own on Fathers Day while here. The trail goes through small towns and has spots to grab a bite to eat.
Don’t sleep on this area. It’s really cool and unknown for those looking for a neat spot to explore!
TravelerHealth kinda made it impossible to really do much. But the setting, weather, views, and timing made sitting around the fire with family more than good enough. It feels like you're in another world, or at least separated from the daily hassles and vexations of society, with a wall of a mountain between you and them. Only got to spend a few days, but without a doubt we will be returning to enjoy the serenity and time together, with nature. Definitely a good spot or you're searching for peace and quiet. Also there's pretty much zero cell service, which is a good thing in my opinion.
TravelerI'm disabled so kinda limited in what I can enjoy, but this place makes it pretty easy. All you really have to do is look up. We went during a full moon so didn't get the most out of it, but it was still beautiful. Plenty of space. Easy areas to walk if you have difficulty and can't go uphill, or struggle with balance and stability. But worst case, sitting around the fire and just enjoying gorgeous views, skies and time with family... Makes any trip worth it. Absolutely going again.
TravelerIt was cloudy the first night we stayed but I woke up in the middle of the night to the bright beautiful stars. The campground is beautiful and we had a great view of the sunset.
ScoutSo myself, my Girlfriend and our dog went up to hike the Grand Canyon and decided to spend the night. We were met with extremely friendly personnel. The site was easy to get to. And the bathrooms and showers were extremely clean. Honestly it was a huge plus picking this place to stay the night.
RangerThe campground is on a peninsula surrounded by a lake. The larger loop (non electric) sites are more spacious, level and shady. The smaller loop with RV hook ups are more barren. Sites are neat, tidy, and well stocked. Flush toilets. The showers are free but pressure was way too high and water not warm enough. Many families and young campers but CG was quiet at night. There is access to major trails including Ricketts Glen Falls. I did not have cell service with T Mobile.
ScoutI visited Ricketts Glen State Park last year, and it was an incredible experience! The natural beauty of the park is breathtaking, especially with the waterfalls along the Falls Trail– a must-do hike for anyone visiting. The trail is challenging but so worth it; the views are unmatched. I stayed in one of the campsites, which offered a nice level of privacy and had clean facilities, including showers and well-maintained restrooms. Lake Jean was also a highlight, with opportunities for kayaking and swimming, perfect for cooling off after a day of hiking. I'd recommend visiting during the week to avoid the crowds. Truly a perfect spot for anyone looking to escape into nature!

TravelerCampground it a little outdated. The back seasonal area has some sketchy looking campers that look abandoned. The locals using the pavilion stayed up making noise way past the 10 pm quiet time. The owners are still relatively new and making visible improvements and were very nice. The layout of the sites was odd and mostly not marked off very well and looked like a free for all in some areas.
TravelerBeautiful state park. The campground is clean and well kept. The beach area is clean, there's a big playground on it as well as a concession stand and store (open during the summer). Spots 57 and 18 offer the most privacy. There are spots that have little creek side access but they are closer together. There are showers in the campground too. DCNR patrols it like a hawk though...so beware any visiting cars to your spot must be moved or pay $5. Borderline harassment from the DCNR guy for my friend visiting for an hour. It is a state park so no alcohol if that's your thing. Beautiful hiking trails and bike trails. 10/10 recommend
