Best RV Parks & Resorts near Orbisonia, PA

The Dyrt lists some of the top RV parks and campgrounds around Orbisonia, Pennsylvania. "Sites look to be semi private in a lot of pictures but that isn't the case," noted one camper about Gettysburg Battlefield KOA. Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA at Four Seasons operates year-round with full hookup sites including 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections. Timber Run Campground offers 67 sites with big-rig friendly access, featuring electric hookups, water connections, and a sanitary dump station. James Creek RV Resort by Rjourney accommodates larger motorhomes with pull-through sites and full hookup capabilities. Western Village RV Park in Carlisle provides year-round access with concrete pads that can accommodate larger rigs, though some sites require careful maneuvering due to tight spacing.

Navigation into mountain parks near Raystown Lake may require sharp turns and elevation changes that challenge larger motorhomes. Most RV parks in the region maintain gravel pads that occasionally need leveling blocks, particularly after heavy rainfall. Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with stronger signals at parks closer to Gettysburg and spotty coverage near the mountains. A review mentioned that "the site wasn't hard to level our RV but overall the sites are hilly and in fact the whole park is on a hill." Dump stations are available at most parks, though not all offer full sewer hookups at individual sites. Pet-friendly policies are common but typically require leashes and proper waste disposal. Propane refill services can be found at larger facilities like Four Seasons and Western Village RV Park.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Williamsport MD

    KID FRIENDLY

This is a huge campground geared around kids. We didn't bring any with us this time and were just staying here overnight. We are in pull through site 753, pretty level gravel site, full hookups, picnic table and fire ring. The site wasn't well cleaned, grease dumped in the gravel, dead grass, lots of stink bugs! Also had to finagle the cable line to get it to work. There are very clean showers and restrooms, large camp store, restaurant, mining for kids, Waterpark, and pool. Many cabins, pull through, back in, and tent sites.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

Awesome campground while exploring Gettysburg Battlefield!

We couldn't have been more pleased with this campground! The usual variety of sites, back-in and pull through, 50/30/20 amp service with full hookups.  Cable has the usual channels, about 20, available for $2.00 per night.  WIFI is free and we had good service, even though we were quite far from the office.  The site was level and needed no additional blocking, a fire pit and picnic table with ample outdoor sitting room.  A wooded setting gave plenty of shade and lent to the atmosphere of having more room than we actually did.  Located about 4 miles from town it is far enough for that country feel but close enough to be convenient.  The camp store was well stocked with basic needs as was the gift shop.  Trash is picked up daily, just leave it at the entrance to your site when you leave in the morning.  Cell service wasn't the best, Verizon had about 2 bars.  I can't say enough good things about the staff, from check-in and being escorted to our site with help backing in to filling up the propane on the way out everyone was courteous and helpful.  We felt secure at all times, and noticed a staff member frequently driving through on a golf cart.  A dog playground, kiddie playground, pool, putt putt, and other activities for the family.  All in all a very positive experience and a definite thumbs up for this campground!!

    Twin Bridge Campground

    Great Site, Great Staff

Took our new Fifth Wheel for a shakedown trip and decided to try Twin Bridges Campground. Staff was polite, amenities are great and clean, and everyone was friendly and polite. Big spacious sites, and a honeywagon to make things easier (there weren't any full hookup sites the I saw besides the long term spaces). Would definatley stay here again.

    Little Buffalo State Park Campground

A Hidden Gem In Central PA

The campground has approximately 35 sites, most with water and electric, which is rare for many PA state parks. The sites are mostly level, gravel, and good sized for averaged sized RV’s. Larger rigs may have some issues with site length on a few sites, so check ahead of time, but there are a couple pull through sites. Fire rings and picnic tables are at each site, but no wifi in the campground area. We did have cell phone service at our campsite.

The sites along the outer side of the look are more wooded than the inner sites.  The bathhouse is modern, very clean and well maintained. A playground is near bathhouse in the campground, along with several hiking trails. The dump station is easily accessible. Firewood is also available for purchase at the campground.

The campground is located across the road from the actual state park, which is beautiful and well maintained. A large lake is the centerpiece surrounded by multiple hiking trails, picnic areas, and a large swimming pool/aquatics area (in season). The road going to the park and campground is well maintained, with very wide shoulders for easy access, biking, and running. Fishing and boat rental are available on the lake.

We had a wonderful weekend at LBSP and plan to include it on our “Go-To” places to visit and camp.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

    Camping Gem Near the Battlefields

We had a great stay at Gettysburg/ Battlefield KOA Holiday in Gettysburg, PA.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#14) with deluxe picnic table, swinging Adirondack glider, and fire pit. The site was big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service.

Lots of mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat. The paver patio with seating and natural landscaping with well-placed boulders made it quite comfortable.

Wow, what a great place to stay when visiting the town of Gettysburg and nearby battlefields.

From the escort to our site and friendly interactions with the staff, we immediately felt at home. The site was covered with clean gravel(which I like to keep sand and dirt outside), the camp store was well-stocked, the pool was inviting, the utilities all worked great, daily trash collection was convenient, immaculate landscaping, and a 2:00 PM check-out make this place a gem when visiting the Gettysburg area.

Just 15-minutes to historic sites, restaurants, and breweries.

    Everything seemed clean and well-maintained.

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location and we can’t wait to go back!

    THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

    1. Beautifully landscaped site

    2. Well maintained and clean campground

    3. Close to town of Gettysburg and battlefields

    Happy Hills Campground

    Lots of regulars

So this is my second time at Happy Hills Campground in Hancock, MD from June 25th-28th. It being relatively close to the home is the reason for choosing it because of doctor appts for the kids.

The site I was in (F1) was really small and very close to the neighboring site. We got lucky no one was camping next to us. It had full hook-ups (30amp/water/sewer) and a pull thru site with picnic table and fire ring. It was $40/night. This campground is mainly for monthly site rentals with more than 3/4 of them permanent sites.

Lots of golf cart and ATV traffic with no quiet hours that I am aware of. We weren't informed the pool would be open and you had to sign up for two hour timeslots to get in. This must have been information only available to the regulars here. Also cell service (Sprint roaming most of the time) is terrible and the campground wifi is spotty at best. The camp store was closed due to COVID so if needed anything you had to go to town.

Bathrooms were clean. Never checked out the showers but heard they were free.

    Overall, I wasn't a happy camper. I don't think I will be back.

    Black Moshannon State Park Campground

    No cell, no problem!

General: 73-site campground; most have electric hookups, and some are FHU. Pets are only permitted at selected sites. There are also 20 (13 rustic and 6 modern) cabins. Cell service is extremely limited to non-existent (Verizon).

Site Quality: Pads are gravel and most appeared to be level. Site 70 was at the end of the loop which is why we picked it. A picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hook complete each site.

Bathhouse: As has been our experience in all PA state parks, the bathhouse was pristine, and the shower (for no additional cost) was clean with plentiful hot water and was very much appreciated.

Activities/Amenities: Coin-operated laundry. A playground is in the campground and there is an additional one at the swimming beach. The swimming beach is open from mid-May to mid-September, from 8 am– sunset. Electric motorboats are permitted on Moshannon Lake. Boat rentals are available in season. Permits are required. 24 miles of hiking trails, including two trails directly from the campground to the lake. In the summer, there is a camper store/concession stand. Hunting is allowed in season. There are 4.3 miles of mountain biking trails.

I used to think Oregon State Parks were the best, but Pennsylvania State Parks have them beat by a mile. We have yet to be disappointed by the amenities(especially the clean bathrooms) offered at the half-dozen state parks we have visited so far.

    Cowans Gap State Park Campground

Great state park in southern PA.

We stayed in camping area A during mid April this year. It was a nice state park. Hiking, fishing, a lake, long creek. Clean bathrooms, heated bathhouse. Our site was #80 and had electric on it, water was just across the road. It was level, with a picnic table and fire ring. The ground was some pretty aggressive gravel, but it kept the ground pretty dry, and it had rained a fair amount in the days before we arrived. Very spotty cell service with T-Mobile. Some spots were more level than others, and others, some looked tricky for larger trailers. Weather was all over the place (as to be expected in this area in mid April. Had all four seasons in 5 days. Would revisit for sure. Totally forgot pictures of the site, but it was pretty typical for a state campground.

Guide to Orbisonia

Camping near Orbisonia, Pennsylvania offers varied terrains across Huntingdon County, sitting at elevations ranging from 700 to 1,300 feet in the Appalachian foothills. The region experiences distinct seasonal changes with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F and cooler mountain nights dropping to 55-65°F. Most campgrounds operate from April through October, with a handful maintaining year-round access.

What to do

Fishing at multiple access points: Raystown Lake has designated fishing areas that accommodate different skill levels. At Timber Run Campground, visitors access the lake via several nearby boat launches. "We fished at Tautman Run and Aitch - both were accessible and had lots of bluegill to steal our worms," notes one camper who enjoyed the varied fishing spots.

Historic battlefield exploration: The Gettysburg National Military Park sits approximately 10 minutes from Round Top Campground, making it an ideal base for history enthusiasts. A camper shared: "We were there to relax but also to explore the town and battlefields. The drive into town was short and had enough road side visuals to keep you from dwelling on the drive."

Special events and themed weekends: Many campgrounds schedule regular activities throughout the season. One visitor at Timber Run mentioned, "We stayed during Bigfoot weekend. It was super fun as our family likes bigfoot fun. We started out Friday night getting the offered $12 bbq plate that included pork burnt ends, beans and potato salad."

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Bathroom quality matters to many campers. At Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA at Four Seasons, guests frequently comment on facility cleanliness. "The staff goes out of their way to ensure that you feel welcome! I recommend Saxton KOA to anyone," writes one reviewer, while another specifically noted: "Staff was wonderful and just a great campground. Bathrooms are Soo nice."

Affordable campground food options: On-site food services save campers cooking time. "We started out Friday night getting the offered $12 bbq plate that included pork burnt ends, beans and potato salad that were 'oh it's so good'," recalled a Timber Run visitor who appreciated the reasonable pricing for quality food.

Privacy between sites: Some rv sites near Orbisonia, Pennsylvania provide natural separation. A Drummer Boy visitor mentioned, "Our site was separated from our neighbors site with nice foliage," highlighting the value of privacy even in more developed campgrounds.

What you should know

Terrain and leveling challenges: Many rv campsites around Orbisonia require adjustment for comfortable setup. At Drummer Boy Camping Resort, a camper noted: "The site was pretty level and an okay side. Our site was separated from our neighbors site with nice foliage." Others mention hillier conditions requiring blocks or careful positioning.

Water pressure variations: Water system quality differs between campgrounds. "Water pressure is low, road traffic noise. Water and electric are in award spot on our site," reported a visitor at Friendship Village, indicating the importance of checking utility placement before setting up.

Seasonal operation schedules: Operating dates vary widely. While Raystown Lake/Saxton KOA operates year-round with full hookups, Drummer Boy Camping Resort runs from April 1 to October 31, requiring advance planning for shoulder season visits.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience road noise due to proximity to highways. A camper at Friendship Village reported: "The only thing we didn't like was all of the road noise. This campground is located by 2 major highways and truck traffic and Jake brake are constant all night long."

Tips for camping with families

Multiple playground options: Friendship Village Campground & RV Park features abundant recreation spaces. "There are many playgrounds spread out across the property as well as a jumping pillow and a very well-built gaga ball pit," notes a family camper, providing essential activity areas for different age groups.

Scheduled children's activities: Weekend programming often includes kid-friendly events. A Timber Run visitor shared, "On Saturday was rock painting and then bingo and ended the night with a DJ dance party," showing how scheduled activities keep younger campers engaged.

Swimming options beyond lakes: Pools provide controlled swimming environments. "There are two pools at each end of the campground and they are very well-maintained and have lifeguard supervision," explained a Friendship Village visitor, highlighting the supervised aquatic options for families uncomfortable with open water swimming.

Mini-golf and game areas: On-site entertainment options reduce travel needs. A camper with children noted, "The kids played mini golf, jumped on the pillow, played on multiple playgrounds, enjoyed ice cream and went fishing," showcasing the variety of activities within campground boundaries.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger rigs: RV campsites near Orbisonia vary in accessibility. At Waterside Campground and RV Park, a reviewer advised: "Stay on the waterside! Sites 48-53. Stayed at 49, it was absolutely perfection!" demonstrating how specific site knowledge improves experience.

Electric service reliability: Some campgrounds experience power issues during peak usage. A Round Top visitor reported: "Electric went out 3 times, once for over 24 hrs. It was in the high 90°," highlighting the importance of backup power options during summer heat.

Dump station access: Not all campgrounds offer full hookups at every site. "Septic dump was about 20 feet away and we had to use a extension to get to it," shared a Round Top camper, indicating the need for additional equipment at some locations.

Road navigation considerations: Access roads present challenges for larger motorhomes. A visitor at Friendship Village mentioned it's "a very easy location to travel to regardless of your rig size," but other campgrounds require more careful maneuvering on mountain roads with tight turns.
