Top-Rated RV Parks & Campgrounds near Hopewell, PA

Raystown Lake area RV campgrounds near Hopewell offer full hookups, 30 and 50-amp electric service, and pull-through sites for motorhome travelers of all rig sizes. Seven Points Campground features 70 level sites with 30 and 50-amp electric service, while Timber Run Campground offers 67 spacious RV sites with full hookups. "The sites I was in (F1) was really small and very close to the neighboring site. We got lucky no one was camping next to us. It had full hook-ups (30amp/water/sewer) and a pull thru site with picnic table and fire ring," noted one camper at Happy Hills. James Creek RV Resort accommodates larger rigs with both 30 and 50-amp service, though several parks warn that back-in approaches can be challenging for longer motorhomes.

Fall brings increased demand at regional RV parks, particularly during leaf-peeping season. Most campgrounds maintain gravel pads, with reviews indicating some sites require additional leveling blocks. Cell service varies significantly throughout the mountainous terrain, with spotty coverage common at parks near Raystown Lake. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though not all offer on-site sewer connections. Winter camping options are limited, with Friendship Village Campground remaining open year-round while others close between October and April. Pet-friendly sites are common but may require additional fees. Visitors traveling in larger motorhomes should call ahead to confirm turning radius and access routes, as several reviews mention tight approaches and sloping terrain.

    Jellystone Park™ Williamsport

    KID FRIENDLY

This is a huge campground geared around kids. We didn't bring any with us this time and were just staying here overnight. We are in pull through site 753, pretty level gravel site, full hookups, picnic table and fire ring. The site wasn't well cleaned, grease dumped in the gravel, dead grass, lots of stink bugs! Also had to finagle the cable line to get it to work. There are very clean showers and restrooms, large camp store, restaurant, mining for kids, Waterpark, and pool. Many cabins, pull through, back in, and tent sites.

    Lazy A Campground

    Down home country

I loved this campground. It is not a large campground in number of sites but has huge open fields for lots of outdoor fun. It has tent sites and level rv sites with 30 amp and water. No sewer. And one 50 amp site. Most sites have partial shade from the tree line. Each site has a fire ring and plastic picnic table. It has a creek for swimming or wading at your own risk. It also has horseshoes, playground, large outdoor picnic area, as well as a clean bathhouse with showers. There is a dump station and trash dumpster for your convenience on the way out of the campground.

    Twin Bridge Campground

    Great Site, Great Staff

Took our new Fifth Wheel for a shakedown trip and decided to try Twin Bridges Campground. Staff was polite, amenities are great and clean, and everyone was friendly and polite. Big spacious sites, and a honeywagon to make things easier (there weren't any full hookup sites the I saw besides the long term spaces). Would definatley stay here again.

    CUMBERLAND MD. CAMPGROUNDS. 1 & 2

On the Potomac and C & O Canal Trail

Canal Tunnel River Campground, Nov 2023 : This is a 1 3/4 mile walk along the C &O Canal Trail to the outskirts of Cumberland. We happened upon this empty campground while walking this trail. A fantastic museum is near that 1 3/4 mile point. The National Park Visitor Center is there as well which is very informative.
(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer). I rate based on desire for at least a moderate wilderness type experience w at least some camp site privacy. Usage during visit: Empty Site Privacy: No vegetation screen between sites. Site Spacing: Close, but more spacing than many private campgrounds. Site surface: Grass Reservations: I noticed Agee box at the entrance. Road Noise: This campground is not near a highway. Through Traffic in campground: No reason for through traffic.
Electric Hookup: I concluded the only sites with electricity are host sites. Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: Yes Bathroom: I did not see any, but probably removed for the season.
Showers: No. Pull Throughs: Some Cell Service (AT&T): Good Setting: Open grassy area with minimal shade along the Potomac River Weather: Sunny . Highs 60s and lows 30s during our stay in the area.
Bugs: Too cold. Solar: Great solar. Rig size: Seems that there would’ve no issue for larger rigs. Sites: Sites along the river are best in my opinion.

    Happy Hills Campground

    Lots of regulars

So this is my second time at Happy Hills Campground in Hancock, MD from June 25th-28th. It being relatively close to the home is the reason for choosing it because of doctor appts for the kids.

The site I was in (F1) was really small and very close to the neighboring site. We got lucky no one was camping next to us. It had full hook-ups (30amp/water/sewer) and a pull thru site with picnic table and fire ring. It was $40/night. This campground is mainly for monthly site rentals with more than 3/4 of them permanent sites.

Lots of golf cart and ATV traffic with no quiet hours that I am aware of. We weren't informed the pool would be open and you had to sign up for two hour timeslots to get in. This must have been information only available to the regulars here. Also cell service (Sprint roaming most of the time) is terrible and the campground wifi is spotty at best. The camp store was closed due to COVID so if needed anything you had to go to town.

Bathrooms were clean. Never checked out the showers but heard they were free.

    Overall, I wasn't a happy camper. I don't think I will be back.

    Cowans Gap State Park Campground

Great state park in southern PA.

We stayed in camping area A during mid April this year. It was a nice state park. Hiking, fishing, a lake, long creek. Clean bathrooms, heated bathhouse. Our site was #80 and had electric on it, water was just across the road. It was level, with a picnic table and fire ring. The ground was some pretty aggressive gravel, but it kept the ground pretty dry, and it had rained a fair amount in the days before we arrived. Very spotty cell service with T-Mobile. Some spots were more level than others, and others, some looked tricky for larger trailers. Weather was all over the place (as to be expected in this area in mid April. Had all four seasons in 5 days. Would revisit for sure. Totally forgot pictures of the site, but it was pretty typical for a state campground.

    Rocky Gap State Park Campground

    Always a great time!

This place is awesome! Our site (15) was a spacious pull through with great view of the mountain through the fall foliage! Our friends were in the site next to us (17) which was also nice and there was a wide walking path between them. Family also stayed in one of the rental cabins (21). Sites are spaced far apart in the section we were in with lots of foliage for privacy. There is walking path behind the loop along the lake that goes to the beach area and camp store. Easy access to the bath house with several paths off the loop. I recommend the pull through sites for their size and privacy but most sites looked great. The cabin was cute. It had a queen bed, bunk beds, side table and front porch with a couple windows. Picnic tables are large and fire pits were placed perfectly for our site.

    Quemahoning Family Recreation Area

    Enjoyable family campground

Quemahoning Family Recreation Area offers great fishing, some nice trails and generally wonderful weather during the summer season.  The campground offers some sites with electrical and others with varying primitive services.  The campground has a bathroom with showers (2 for men, 2 for women).  The result is there are sometimes lines waiting for a shower to be available.  There is a camp store where wood, ice and fishing supplies are available.  There is no trash service;  campers are expected to carry out their trash.  Campsites do have fire rings, a picnic table and parking available.  The campgrounds are pet friendly.  Boats are available to rent.  If you bring your own power needs to be electric only.

McCoys Ferry Campground — Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park

On The Flowing Potomac w a View

McCoys Ferry: River Sites. O & C Canal close. Cumberland is a must city to visit - museum and NP Visitor Center (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good (70 yr olds in 17’ trailer). I rate based on desire for at least a moderate wilderness type experience w at least some camp site privacy. Overall Rating: 4 - Sites are right on the river. There is no privacy from adjacent campsites, but you are on the Potomac in sites 1 - 7.
Price 2023: $10 w interagency pass Usage during visit: Light during the week. 40% full on weekends.
Site Privacy: Open sites. Camper on site 13 created privacy with his trailer. Site Spacing: Moderately large sites Not bad Site surface: Grass Reservations: Required.
Campground Noise: Quiet Road Noise: No road noise. Train comes by frequently and is close enough to be load. Trains add to the historical nature of this park.
Through Traffic in campground: Dead end campground road. So, there is no reason for through traffic. Electric Hookup: No Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: Yes, a hand pump.
Generators: Allowed Bathroom: Clean chemical toilets. I prefer the pit toilet in the nearby day use area.
Showers: No. Pull Throughs: Yes- Looks like all riverside sites can accommodate pull through.
Cell Service (AT&T): 2 bars. Setting: Open park setting with deciduous trees along the Potomac.
Weather: Highs in the mid 60s . Lows in the low 30s during our stay. Sunny.
Bugs: Too cold. Solar: With no leaves on the trees, our fixed roof solar panels did reasonably well. Host: No Rig size: Small rigs only. Sites: 1-7 are on the water and are the best sites in my opinion. Sites 2, 3 and 4 give the nicest views up and down river View from #7 is most obstructed. Remember, this post is after leaf fall. Views maybe more obstructed in the spring. Site number 13 (a pull through site) is not on the water, however, it sits away from adjacent sites. Trailer maneuvered in correctly can give that site the most privacy of the all sites.

Swimming options: Multiple campgrounds maintain swimming pools with varied schedules and rules. A visitor at Friendship Village Campground reported, "The pool hours or a little later than most campgrounds as they open at 11 through the week and 12 on Sunday. The campground does maintain a policy of having to wear a shirt or a cover-up when not in the pool vicinity."

Mini golf and recreation: Several campgrounds feature mini golf courses and various recreational facilities. "This campground is very clean and family friendly. they have mini golf, fishing, and special events on weekends. the office staff are very friendly and helpful," comments a visitor about Friendship Village Campground.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Bathrooms and shower facilities receive particular attention from reviewers at several campgrounds. At Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA, one camper noted, "Bathrooms are Soo nice. Staff was wonderful and just a great campground."

Themed weekends: Scheduled activities and themed weekends enhance the camping experience at some locations. "We stayed during Bigfoot weekend. It was super fun as our family likes bigfoot fun. We started out Friday night getting the offered $12 bbq plate that included pork burnt ends, beans and potato salad that were 'oh it's so good'," reports a camper at Timber Run Campground.

Well-maintained pools: Swimming pools are regularly cited as highlights at rv campgrounds near Hopewell, Pennsylvania. A camper at Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA mentioned, "It still has a pool the is as clean as they come (they may have added a new liner, not sure) and they still maintain it like it is being inspected the next day."

Evening entertainment: Organized activities after sunset provide additional recreation options. A reviewer at Friendship Village Campground shared, "The property had a movie showing in their barn on Saturday night (Despicable Me) and they also seem to schedule a lot of live entertainment, mostly Bluegrass."

What you should know

Terrain challenges: Campgrounds in the Hopewell region often feature hilly terrain that can affect site levelness. At Nature's Getaway RV Park, a visitor observed, "We got the pull through at the end of one loop so we could face the woods. The site wasn't so level, but we made it work."

Site spacing: Campsite proximity varies considerably throughout the region's campgrounds. One visitor to Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA mentioned, "This was a nice campground! The staff were super friendly and the whole campground was tidy and clean. The only drawback was that the sites were tight and not the most level but we made do."

Seasonal availability: Operating schedules differ significantly among Hopewell area campgrounds. While Friendship Village Campground operates year-round, many others close between October and April.

Noise levels: Some campgrounds experience road noise depending on their location relative to highways. A camper at Friendship Village noted, "Nice campground, clean and plenty of activities for the kids. The only thing we didn't like was all of the road noise. This campground is located by 2 major highways and truck traffic and Jake brake are constant all night long."

Tips for camping with families

Recreation facilities: Some campgrounds offer numerous recreational options within walking distance of campsites. "There are many playgrounds spread out across the property as well as a jumping pillow and a very well-built gaga ball pit," reported a visitor to Friendship Village Campground.

Swimming facilities: Pool regulations and features vary by campground. "The lower pool is right beside the main office which also includes an arcade and a very nice miniature golf course. The upper pool is larger and also well maintained," notes a Friendship Village camper, adding, "Neither pool has provided seating so you will need to bring your own camp chairs or towels to sit on."

Site selection guidance: For families with children, site location can significantly impact convenience. At Friendship Village, one reviewer recommends, "For tent campers I recommend staying in the area of sites 5-25 as there is a very nice bathhouse very close by. In my opinion, the best sites to stay at if you have kids are sites 145–171 as those are right beside the jumping pillow, playground and gaga ball pit."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Many RV sites throughout Hopewell area campgrounds require additional leveling equipment. A visitor to Little Orleans Campground reported, "Our site P1 is a full hook up pull through but it's really unlevel. We ran out of blocks trying to level on this site and were still off a bit. If we were staying more than a night we may have asked for a different site."

Full hookup availability: RV services vary significantly between campgrounds and specific sites. "Sites are very spacious and the gravel pad was level upon parking. Good connections and solid cable," mentions a camper at Friendship Village Campground.

Weekend crowding: Higher occupancy on weekends affects site availability and overall experience at rv campgrounds in Hopewell, Pennsylvania. "We've been coming there for over 20 years!" notes a long-time visitor to Little Orleans Campground, highlighting the regional popularity.
