Raccoon Creek State Park Campground offers designated pet-friendly camping in loops F and B, with some electric hookups available in the F loop. The campground features spacious, wooded sites with fire rings and picnic tables, providing a natural setting for campers and their dogs. Pets must be leashed and supervised at all times. Mountain Top Campground, Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, and Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA all welcome pets with dedicated amenities. The KOA locations feature open dog parks where pets can exercise off-leash. Campers browse The Dyrt when exploring the best sites near Homestead, Pennsylvania. Sites in pet-friendly areas vary in size and privacy, with some offering more seclusion than others. Most campgrounds maintain clean facilities with hot showers and flush toilets accessible to all campers, including those with pets.

Hiking trails throughout the region accommodate leashed dogs, with Raccoon Creek State Park offering a trail from the D loop directly to the beach area. The non-pet camping sections at state parks like Laurel Hill typically provide more wooded privacy than the pet-friendly loops, which sometimes resemble open fields with trees around the perimeter. Campground pet policies generally require proof of current vaccinations, and most limit the number of pets per site. Seasonal considerations affect pet comfort, with summer months requiring extra water and shade precautions. The pet-friendly loops at state parks can develop a lively atmosphere on summer weekends while maintaining reasonable quiet hours. Dog owners should pack waste bags, portable water bowls, and tie-out stakes, as not all campgrounds provide pet waste stations or secure containment options.

      Hickory Hollow Campground

A new favorite quick getaway for me and the wife

This campground checks all our boxes. Beautiful scenery, quiet location, spacious campsites, full RV hookups, well-placed fire rings, dog park, nice large bathhouses, polite staff, and Wi-Fi that works.

This is located about an hour away from my home, so we plan on making this our go-to for quick camping getaways throughout the year.

Highly recommended. Definitely worth checking out.

Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping

      Family and pet friendly

OverLl great campground. The sites are a little close together but we still enjoyed our time there. Staff is super friendly and there was plenty for the kids to do, pool, arcade, fishing, and playground. Decent size dog park to let your dogs run and decent trails nearby.

      Wow!

This may be the first campground I give a 10 out of 10! All the amenities your could want, it's clean, sites are leveled, it's maintained beautifully, there are cows in the distance, fully stocked store, friendly staff. Laundry, bathrooms, fairly spacious sites, a pool, dog park. Very, very nice.

Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping

Amenity and Pet Friendly, but Where are the Kids?

Good location for outdoor and city experiences, along with a relaxing getaway. Workers and permanent campers are very friendly with all the amenities necessary on site, including nice dog park. A small campground that didn’t have many kids for ours to play with during our visit. In addition, hill keeps permanent campers separate from temporary campers.

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Pet friendly campsite, with electric

While most of the campgrounds in the park are no pets- there are 2 loops that allow your furry companions! Loop F includes electric spots! Loved seeing the 'neighbors' dogs get excited and curious when I walked my 4-legged best friend around the site. Clean area , close to a modern bathroom (a few stalls & even 2 showers!) Looking forward to going back at the end of the month.

      Awesome staff!

Very conveniently located off the interstate. Follow the signs to the campground NOT the GPS in order to avoid some narrow and sharp turn roads. Staff were super friendly! Front desk staff were knowledgeable and and helpful. We had some issues with our power, and Larry was at our site within minutes to fix it. Big open dog park! There are only a few shaded spots. Spot width was a little narrow where we stayed (on the hill), but perfect for a quick overnight stay. Bathrooms were fairly clean, laundry was nice. The pool looked very well maintained.

      Hickory Hollow Campground

      Soooo spacious!

I was the only tenter at the time of my stay; had the whole place to myself. The sites are spread far apart and wooded. Table and fire rings are at each site. They have a brand new bath house which was spotless and a well kept dog park for the furs. If desired, there is a group campsite and the use of a pavilion too. The camp store if beautiful and has everything in it should you forget something. I’ll definitely be back.

    Guide to Homestead

Campsites near Homestead, Pennsylvania range from wooded state parks to mountaintop retreats within a 30-mile radius. The region sits at the confluence of three rivers with elevations varying from 710 feet at riverfront sites to over 2,000 feet at mountain campgrounds. Summer temperatures average 78-85°F while spring and fall camping seasons bring cooler 50-65°F temperatures with frequent rainfall.

    What to do

Whitewater adventures on the Youghiogheny River: At Ohiopyle State Park, the river offers multiple difficulty levels for rafters and kayakers. "This is a very nice campground. Plan your meals well, before arriving. There are a couple of restaurants in Ohiopyle, but they are not open late," notes Robert C. about Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park.

Trail access from campgrounds: Many sites connect directly to regional trail systems. "This campground is great for a little getaway. Most sites are spacious! Only downside is you can hear the airport. Not a huge deal though!" writes Sienna L. about Raccoon Creek State Park Campground.

Fishing in stocked ponds: Several campgrounds maintain fishing areas accessible to campers. "It had plenty of stuff for the kids to do but had a horrible smell. The site wasnt wasnt great either," mentions Theodore C. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, highlighting that amenities vary significantly between locations.

    What campers like

Mountain views from elevated sites: The higher elevation campgrounds provide panoramic vistas. "Amazing views from this campground! Water and electric available (50 amps), grey sewer available. For the black you can dump here or have someone pump out on Wednesday morning," shares Doreen C. about Mountain Top Campground.

Secluded tent sites: Some campgrounds offer more private options for tent campers. "Free bike-in camp site with water access along the Youghiogheny River. Access from the Allegheny Gap trail. There were a few shelters, nice campsite," reports Lauren C. about Dravo's Landing Campground.

Clean shower facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses are consistently mentioned in positive reviews. "Very peaceful and friendly place, bathhouse are extremely clean," mentions Tanner B. about Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA, though experiences vary by season and maintenance schedules.

    What you should know

Pet restrictions vary significantly: Dog friendly campgrounds near Homestead have different policies beyond the basic leash requirements. "This is a large campground with play grounds, well maintained pool and grounds, fishing, party pavilions, and store. The staff is nice and helpful," notes Msmetoo48 S. about Fox Den Acres Campground.

Limited grocery options: Many campgrounds are situated far from stores. "It is in the middle of nowhere, but depending on where you wanna go it's either 15-30min drive. BRING CHANGE! YOUR RIGHT NEXT TO TI THE TURN PIKE," advises Evelyn T. about Madison-Pittsburgh S.E. KOA.

Seasonal variations in water access: Swimming areas and water hookups may close during colder months. "We've stayed here multiple times throughout several summers. The lake is great for fishing with plenty of hiking trails," shares Luke K. about Keystone State Park Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Pool amenities: Several campgrounds offer swimming options for children during summer months. "The pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites, modern hookups, good shower/laundry facilities, nice fire rings with built in grills, trash pickup service," reports Heath T. about Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort.

Playgrounds and open spaces: Look for campgrounds with dedicated play areas. "This campground checks all the boxes for me. Pool, brook, trees, space, quiet! Every time we come here it gets better," shares John R. about Whispering Pines Family Campground.

Weekend noise levels: Family-friendly sites can become busy during peak periods. "If your in the area, this is a good little spot. The facilities are a little rough & they don't always have someone in the office to help," mentions Mary Elisabeth D. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

    Tips from RVers

Site levelness varies significantly: Many campgrounds in this hilly region have uneven sites. "Very steep narrow roads to access campground and sites..sites not level and noisy, next to highway," warns Chris H. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

Limited hookup options at state parks: Full service sites are less common at public campgrounds. "Park itself is gorgeous with a large lake and designated swimming area. Place attracts a lot of people in the summer as its basically in the Pittsburgh suburbs along a major road artery," explains Matt R. about Keystone State Park.

Extended stay considerations: Some campgrounds offer monthly rates with different amenities. "We are in the extended stay part of the campground which is quiet and slightly more secluded than the other spots," notes Ariel F. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.
