Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park Campground

    Nice secluded campground

Stayed 4 nights. Clean bathrooms, good space between campsites. Nestled in the tall trees, it would be cool during a hot summer. Since I visited in November and it rained, the drops from the trees were loud on my trailer roof. (Well duh!) 1/2 mile walk to the beach. Clean, safe, and quietWell maintained campgrounds, as are all Oregon parks. Great reservation system. (California in comparison has a terrible website. What’s up CA?) 30 and 50 amp electric, water and sewer at the site (Full hookups). Great dump station across the highway. Back in spaces, so a 40 foot RV would barely fit. This is an older but well maintained campground.

Nice place to stay on the Oregon Coast

A great little campground settled along the coast near Florence, Oregon.

Get there early as reservations cannot be made and its all first come, first serve! It is extremely busy during peak season, so if your looking for a not so busy campground, this is not it.

Full hook ups available along with restrooms/ showers, fire wood for sale and there is a dump station on site. Picnic table and fire pit at every site. You are along HWY 101, but the trees do provide a little bit of a sound buffer. There is no playground at this campground, however they offer the Junior Ranger Program to occupy kiddos which is great! Trails nearby lead down to the beach and its 2 miles by trail to the Heceta Head Light House.

Overall this is a great family friendly little campground!

Visiting in the off season is a great option if you can't get a spot in peak season as it is open year round.

I would give this one the full 5 stars, but the inability to make reservations for this State Park is a huge con :/

    Premier RV Resort

    Good Base Camp

Our stay at the Lincoln City Premier RV Resort was good.  The space was clean and the utility hookups were well maintained and functional.  And, staff were very nice and accommodating.  We upgraded to a pull through and in hindsight should not have.  It was close to the road, and many of the trailers in the pull through section appeared to be long term occupants, at least a couple left early in the morning for work and returned in the afternoon.  The location although easy to get both north and south from because it is adjacent to the highway, was in a part of town that seemed a little economically depressed.  I would have rated it higher but for the price, I expected more.  UPDATE  We visited this park for a second time in 2023 and selected a back in site near the north east section of the park and loved it.  We are changing our rating to five stars.

Port of Siuslaw Campground & Marina

    Pricey, But Loved It

Parks that are walking distance to shops and restaurants are such a treat.  There are breweries, restaurants, farmers market (on Tuesday afternoon), shops, etc all within easy walking distance from here.

We stayed at a waterfront site, which was cheaper than the "premium" pull through sites in the middle.  With fees and extra pet fees (you get one pet included in the nightly fee, any additional pets are $2 each) we paid $47 for a night.   The premium sites we would not recommend, unless you must have a pull through site.  Those are basically just spots in a gravel lot with hookups.  Zero division between sites.  And they are the most expensive at $55/night.

There's a nice gazebo to use for group events, but it's an odd set up in that there is no path to the gazebo and it's in the center of a circle of back in sites.  So if all the sites were occupied, I suppose you'd have to walk through someone's site to access it?

So pleasantly surprised to see glass recycling here!  We got to dump off our growing pile of traveling glass recycling.  Mixed recycling is in a separate bin.  But no plastics!

There is laundry here, and showers, but we did not use either.  There's a book exchange shelf in the office.

Their website is out of date: there are no dry camp spots any longer.  All sites are FHU.

Good cell service here and their wifi is good and strong, even in the back end where we were.

We liked this place to splurge on a place close to town, but overall too pricey for us to stay for any length of time.

    Absolutely Amazing

The beach near bye. Curfew was awesome. Quiet time. Clean and friendly. Can't wait to come back. Fun crazy trails to explore. Lots of different amazing sites. Their is Yurts, tents, van life, rv pull through or back ins. The beach is so amazing.

    And pet friendly.

Port of Newport RV Park & Marina

    Pricey for parking lot camping!

This place offers a regular RV park for something around $80/night, or dry camping for about $40/night. The dry camping area is literally a parking lot, but you have a nice view of the marina and also it’s really nice to be this close to town so we stayed here for a night. You’re sharing a parking lot with Rogue brewery and distillery, which is very cool. You’re also walking distance to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, also very cool. The town of Newport is cute and fun and there are many interesting and cool shops to browse, and many of them are dog friendly.

We didn’t use any of the amenities here, but we were told there is wifi and showers. There were dumpsters (no recycling), and a free dump station for campers. There was non-potable water at the dump station, but I am sure they would also let you fill your tanks with potable water.

Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park Campground

    This Place Has Everything

This campground is so nice and well kept, each site is pretty private and the whole area is just beautiful.  Some sites have a bit of sun but most are in the shade.  Some of the sites were tight and we had to back in to the site very creatively and carefully in our 26ft class c.  I'd imagine some of the huge 5th wheels would have trouble managing in some of the sites.

Oregon State Parks now charge a 25% surcharge for RV spots (not tent sites) for non-Oregonions.  Sites are reservable on oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com.  Those without reservations can take empty sites for one night at a time.

Some sites are electric and water only, and some are FHU for $3 more.  There are also hiker/biker sites at $8, and yurts (one is pet friendly for $10 more).

Free dump station and potable water across the hwy at the day use area.

They have recycling here, and they take glass, aluminum, tin, and paper, and empty propane bottles, but not plastic.

They have free showers and firewood for sale.

Zero cell service here with our Verizon and ATT phones.

    Seal Rocks RV Cove

    It's All About the View

This was our second time here, and we enjoyed the first so much we decided to spend a month over Christmas to watch storms and hopefully see the whale migration. As Seal Rocks RV Cove is right off US-101, you take the second left at the sign if you are coming from the south. Per our instruction email, we headed straight to back-in site 18 with FHUs. Since we were going to be here a month, we fiddled more than normal to position our 40’ 5th wheel into position. Otherwise, this is a fairly easy back-in. Most of the positioning was to get more center on the gravel pad because there are tall hedges on both sides. This is a nice privacy feature in most sites. The water pressure was around 60 psi, so we used a reducer. Water and electric are more centered on the site. Site 18 has a great view of Seal Rock and the ocean. Another great feature of these sites is that the utilities are on both sides for back-ins like us, and Class As and Bs can pull in forward. We needed about 15’ of sewer hose with the back-in connection. The $45 nightly rate was based on an off-season monthly rate, and we did not have to pay extra for electricity. We had one bar on Verizon, which was usable for phone calls. We got a clear shot of the NW sky for Starlink. There wouldn’t be a problem for a southern shot as well. There’s a fire pit and picnic table at the back of the site. There’s a small fenced dog park and a beach trail path that leads out of the RV park to Hwy 101 to get to the beach trail. The park WiFi was pretty good, but there were not many campers here this time of year. The park managers are friendly and accommodating, and they enforce their rules. Two in particular were dogs on six-foot leashes and no LED lights at night. We were lax with our dogs because the park was empty, but they quickly reminded us of the rule. As you are right off US-101, there is road noise, but it quiets down at night. Seal Rocks RV Cove doesn’t have a laundry, but there’s one nearby in Waldport and two in Newport. There is so much to do and see in this area. We spent a month and still didn’t get everything done we wanted to do."

Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park Campground

    Decent place to stay.

Can't make reservations, it's first come first serve. Quiet. No or spotty cell service with at&t. SUPER close to beach, just a short hike on their trail. Rocky/hard sand beach. Pet friendly. Smaller campgrounds.

Guide to South Beach

South Beach sits near the center of Oregon's coast, nestled between the ocean and Yaquina Bay just south of Newport. The region experiences mild year-round temperatures averaging 45-65°F with significant rainfall from November through March. Cell reception varies dramatically throughout the area, with Verizon typically providing the most reliable coverage in most RV parks South Beach, Oregon has to offer.

What to do

Crabbing and fishing: Port of Newport RV Park & Marina offers convenient access to both activities. "We love this spot for a quick stay when we're heading through Newport. Picturesque view of the bridge, walk to Rogue Brewery's headquarters, and not to far to the beach and downtown Newport. You can also try you luck at crabbing or fishing off the pier!" notes Blaine B.

Beach access: Seal Rocks RV Cove provides direct beach access across Highway 101. "We had a fantastic view of the ocean from our site and the beach is easy access. We appreciated the extra precautions that they are taking to protect us during this time of Covid-19," shares Errolyn T. The beach access point requires crossing the highway.

Boat rentals: Coyote Rock RV Resort & Marina provides equipment for water activities. "There is a great little store for all your camping needs, so many fun things for kids to do, boat rentals, crabbing packages, and the best fishing around," reports Hailey.

What campers like

Indoor amenities: Thousand Trails Whalers Rest offers multiple facilities for rainy days. "We've been here a few times. It's aleays very relaxing. The facility is clean, there is a nice workout room, two lodges with store, pool and hot tub and mini golf. Kids enjoyed playing on the playground and walking to beach from trail," explains Nicole R.

Clean facilities: Many campers appreciate the maintenance standards at area campgrounds. "This is a Thousand TrAils campground and well maintained. The campground is divided into a north and south side. We stayed on the south side with concrete pads that were nestled in between trees. We were here during significant rainfall and appreciated not being in mud," shares Ella T.

Close to attractions: Sea and Sand RV Park offers proximity to coastal attractions. "Had a nice one night stop at this RV Park that had about 12 sites that were lined up along the coast. Had a couple other levels with direct views of the ocean, but you were packed in side by side with other RV's," reports Brandon K.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most South Beach Oregon RV parks require advance planning. "They allowed us to stay in overflow even though all the sites were reserved. They still charged us full price but we were just happy to land somewhere for the night and get hot showers!" reports Jenebi L. about Whalers Rest.

Site spacing: Many campgrounds feature close quarters. "The sites next to each side of us were very close about 3 feet apart. There were two parking areas for extra rigs," notes Robert D. about Sea and Sand RV Park.

Weather preparedness: Oregon coast storms can impact camping experiences. "We stayed during the rainiest five days I've ever camped....but still had a great time. We were able to bike to town and the staff was fantastic," shares David & Sue C.

Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: Premier RV Resort offers family-focused amenities. "My family and I really enjoyed this very well maintained beautiful RV resort for a quick getaway for the weekend. The host was very helpful and friendly. We woke up to an amazing view and enjoyed a few drinks watching the sunset in the evening," writes Edel P.

Kid-friendly activities: Several parks provide programming for younger campers. "We love the Whaler's Rest. So many good areas for kids to play and the staff really does a great job planning activities for the whole family," notes Neil B.

Wildlife viewing: Waterfront RV parks provide opportunities to observe coastal animals. "We had an okay time at this site. It's very open, but not unpleasant. They have full hook-ups, cable tv and boat rentals. The cell service wasn't great. They also have cabins for rent. It's right on the river and there are cute little otters that like to show off for the guests," describes Christie U. about Coyote Rock RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity considerations: Internet access varies by location. "Beautiful campground just across from the Ocean. We're listening to the surf right now. Heavily treed but able to get good Starlink reception with download speed around 200 Mbps," mentions Richard B. about Whalers Rest.

Backing into sites: Site configuration can present challenges. "Whalers has some great amenities. The pool, mini golf, play ground and other fun games. I was disappointed with the quality of the sites including the size. Many sites you will need to be skilled at leaving your trailer. Also be very skilled at backing in as they can be at less then ideal angles," advises Josh K.

Free dump station: Certain parks offer complimentary services. "This place offers a regular RV park for something around $80/night, or dry camping for about $40/night. The dry camping area is literally a parking lot, but you have a nice view of the marina and also it's really nice to be this close to town so we stayed here for a night," explains Laura M. about Port of Newport RV Park, adding "There were dumpsters (no recycling), and a free dump station for campers."
