Best RV Parks & Resorts near Lake Wallula

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Lake Wallula offers several established RV campgrounds along the Columbia River. Umatilla Marina & RV Park provides full hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on level gravel pads suitable for larger motorhomes. "The campground was very quiet. We had a good spot facing a big empty green field and no one camped next to us so it was pretty private," noted one visitor, though they mentioned bathroom maintenance issues. Horn Rapids RV Resort in Richland accommodates big rigs year-round with 50-amp service and propane fill availability. Columbia Sun RV Resort features 145 sites with full hookups and maintains a market on-site, while Pilot RV Park in Stanfield provides basic RV accommodations with hookups.

Reservations are recommended during summer months when Columbia River recreation attracts more visitors. Most RV parks in the area maintain sanitary dump stations, though not all smaller facilities offer this amenity. Road navigation generally presents few challenges with major highways providing access to most parks. Winter visitors should note some seasonal restrictions, particularly for water hookups during freezing temperatures. According to one camper, "The park is clean, well maintained, and has water, electricity, and a dump station." Pet policies vary, with most parks allowing pets but imposing restrictions. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, making remote work possible while traveling in motorhomes or travel trailers.

    Coyote Run RV Park

    Great place for a night

I was skeptical about this place because it is part of an RV storage area and very close to the highway. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It is very well maintained, very neat, irrigated grass for each site. The campground is one loop with back in sites on the perimeter and pull-through sites on the "infield." I had a pull through site that was easy to navigate. Hookups are well maintained. Good Verizon cell service (3 bars). Many long term residents but with well-kept rigs. The town is sleepy at best! Be aware that on Sundays, every restaurant is closed! There is road noise audible inside the rig from accelerating/decelerating trucks but not awful. I did not look at the bathrooms and laundry but they looked very nice.

    Pioneer RV Park

Home is where you park it.

Great park for overnight, short term or long term. Moved in 11/25/19, today is 03/22/20. Full hook ups, incl water, sewer, garbage. Electrical is extra. Great people in the office. Park is paved grass at every sight. Close to town, convenient store close by. Showers, restrooms and laundry available for campers.

    Wine Country RV Park

    Quiet Overnight in Wine Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as an “along the way” stay — grounds that you seek out for a night or two as a place to simply stay the night along your journey to regroup and get some sleep. Ratings for this category are based on: Cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, level ground, accessibility): 4 Noise: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Layout: 4 Customer Service: 5

We only stayed at Wine Country RV Park as an overnight along our way, however, this could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area and this park is in the midst of them all.

The staff is quite friendly and they offer tastings from local wineries in their community room frequently. It’s worth mentioning that mask-wearing seems to be finished here. To each their own, but I know it’s still very important to some.

The grounds are mostly well-kept though we did see some dog poop as we were walking around and some long term residents that took up more than their own space. The grounds are big-rig friendly and there is some grass between spaces. Premium sites have concrete pads while the lower cost sites are just gravel. The pads are mostly level, but slope upwards in some spots so unhitching can be just a little tricky. There is no privacy between sites, but the sites are wide enough for slide outs and chairs. Hookups were good, wifi was good enough for streaming (the park was only about 1/4 full while we were there). There is a pool and hot tub, both of which were closed for winter, and a small playground and basketball hoop for kids.

Price is reasonable, if a little high, for being in the middle of a bunch of wineries, and they take Good Sam and other membership discounts. The area is quaint with lots of farms (and some of the smells that go along with it). There is a cute bakery just over the bridge in the historic area of town called Jade’s. Give them a visit! Also, for runners/walkers/bikers... there is a very long path system that goes from Prosser and along the highway for miles into Sunnyside! It’s accessible about 1/2 mile from the park. Also walking distance is Vintner’s Village with a series of tasting rooms to visit.

A nice find for both passing through or staying a while longer if you’re into wines!

Good stop for a long drive - very friendly and helpful staff

We stayed here for one night on July 26, 2018.

The park is tight with very narrow spaces but well maintained. We were only stopping for one night on the way home and having a level, nice pull-through site, with hookups was nice. We never even unhooked the trailer but was spot on level. The park is pretty packed with many long-term residents visible through more permanent porches, 100 gallon propane hook up, and lots of potted plants.  Since we were traveling and the park was so clean, it didn't bother me at all but others have made note of that.

There is both dumpsters onsite but also site pickup of garbage by the park. That’s a nice unexpected service. The pool and laundry closes at 8pm but the showers are open 24 hours. The greeter was very nice and helpful, couldn't ask for any more.

    RV Resort Four Seasons

    Lots of hookups

This site was right next to Fort Walla Walla, with a park and dog park. Not much else here but weird animal statues and long-term RVers. Lots of hookups for RV and trailers. No tent or car camping. The bathrooms were still closed June 2021, need to use your own hookups.

    Boardman Marina Park

    Beautiful spot on the Columbia

Campsites are large. And level. There’s lots of grass picnic tables fire pit. there’s a walking trail along the river and it’s close to town. There are clean restrooms with free showers and paid laundry facility. Seems to work pretty well.

    Columbia Sun RV Resort

Great place even though in town

Although you can hear the traffic going by still a nice park. This is the trade off with being close to town but being close to civilization allowed us to go get items we needed and not have to rely on the usually overpriced camp stores. Enjoyed the pool and event centers. ALOT of full timers which doesn't bother me - not sure if we bothered them. No firepits but we knew that before going - brought a propane fire pit with us. Wifi was being upgraded but cell service with Verizon wasn't an issue. Will go back.

    Pasco Tri-Cities KOA

    Good 2nt wtop

    KOA Pasco/Tri Cities

    Pasco, WA

    #221, New section

    Gravel, easily leveled,  pull Through

Grass area between sites with picnic table.

Plenty long enough, did not have to disconnect

WIFI.... there but not very strong

    V 4g/3b, ATT 4g/2b ( no booster)

2nt stop to visit a friend in Walla Walla, which was busy with their Fall Fair and had no RV spots open.

Escorted to our sight. Nick was very helpful with local info on where to find what.

There is some road noise. We didn't hear it in our rig with the AC on, but you will hear it if outside.

Nice pool area,  playground for the kids.

Laundry is a little small for a park this size,  but it wasn't busy and we didn't have to wait.

Did not use the new bathrooms.

Access from the highway was good, and new section roads are easily navigable in a larger rig.

They do water at night, so don't leave anything out that can't get wet.

We would stay here again when in the area.

    Coyote Run RV Park

    Nice overnight stop

Not much around here but if you are driving by this place is clean and reasonable. They have a very wide road through the park which is nice and long pull-through sites. They only have 50 amp & we needed 30 but mgr let me borrow an adapter. Would stay again if passing by.

Guide to Lake Wallula

Lake Wallula stretches along the Columbia River at 340 feet elevation, spanning both Washington and Oregon sides of the water. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F during July and August, with frequent strong winds across the reservoir. Campgrounds in this area often fill quickly during weekends from late spring through early fall when water recreation peaks.

What to do

Water activities: Umatilla Marina & RV Park offers direct river access with a marina and boat launch. "The marina has a large parking lot and spots to clean fish. There is a nice park and swimming area for kids," notes one visitor at Umatilla Marina & RV park.

Winery exploration: Set up base camp at Wine Country RV Park for vineyard touring. "This could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area and this park is in the midst of them all," reports a camper. The park even offers "tastings from local wineries in their community room frequently."

Fishing: Multiple access points along the Columbia River provide excellent fishing opportunities. One camper staying at Horn Rapids mentions its proximity to the Yakima River: "Great spot, clean facilities, horse trails and boat ramp. I've stayed here many times and feel it's under utilized."

McNary Dam visits: Learn about river management at the McNary Dam. "The McNary Dam and Fish window are a few miles down the road and well worth a visit (when open)," advises a camper from Umatilla Marina.

What campers like

Riverside locations: Several campgrounds provide water views and swimming access. At Umatilla Marina, campers appreciate that "it's nice down by the water you can swim or fish. It also has a nice view of the sunset."

Well-maintained grounds: Many campgrounds maintain tidy facilities. One visitor to Horn Rapids RV Resort observed, "This RV park is the best maintained park I have ever seen. The lots are not real big, but the landscaping is pristine (think golf course) and overall the park is meticulously maintained."

Convenient travel stop: Pilot RV Park offers easy highway access for overnight stays. "They took our reservation from the road so we could drive right into our pull-through space. Since we were stopping for a weather delay, we just hooked up electric and used their restroom and shower," states a reviewer.

Recreational amenities: Larger resorts offer additional facilities. At Horn Rapids, campers enjoy "a really nice pool and hot tub, laundry room, showers, and a very nicely stocked store that includes hot food available."

What you should know

Highway noise: Several campgrounds experience traffic noise due to interstate proximity. At Umatilla Marina and RV Park, one visitor noted, "During the night, some people camping in their truck would start the engine every hour to keep warm plus the truck traffic over the I-82 bridge was noisy."

Seasonal conditions: Weather varies dramatically between seasons. A camper at Umatilla Marina shared their October experience: "This was in late October 2020 during a cold snap."

Pet restrictions: Some campgrounds limit pet sizes. Wine Country RV Park enforces a "40 POUND LIMIT" for dogs according to one disappointed camper.

Bathroom maintenance varies: Quality of restroom facilities differs between parks. At Pilot RV Park, visitors found "the facilities were immaculate," while others reported maintenance issues at different locations.

Reservation needs: Many parks accept drive-up visitors but reservations provide security. "We made reservations and have loved the staff! They are great and helpful," notes a camper at Columbia Sun RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Look for swimming areas: Some campgrounds offer kid-friendly water access. "There is a nice park and swimming area for kids," mentions a reviewer at Umatilla Marina.

Outdoor movie opportunities: Check local schedules for entertainment. A family staying at Umatilla Marina and RV ParkPublic shared this experience: "The field next to the campground set up an outdoor movie night with free popcorn. The kids loved it and it was a great memory maker."

On-site activities: Some parks provide recreational facilities. Horn Rapids includes "a pool and hot tub, laundry room, showers, and a very nicely stocked store," making extended stays more comfortable.

Bring entertainment backups: Limited internet can complicate digital activities. One family noted, "The only annoyance I had was poor internet service: I needed to download more kid shows for the next stretch of our drive and the signal kept dropping."

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Most rv sites near Lake Wallula offer full services. At Driftwood RV Park, campers find "tables at each spot make it easy to cook and bathrooms are clean."

Site leveling: Check site conditions before setup. One RVer at Umatilla Marina noted, "We had a grassy area next to our RV but it wasn't level."

Sprinkler awareness: Move gear when irrigation starts. One camper warned, "Just move your stuff out of the way of the sprinklers! We had to do a late night dash outside to rescue books and such!"

Off-season value: Consider shoulder season visits for better availability. A November visitor to Wine Country RV Park found "we had more than adequate space but that is due to few campers. Would be a typical rv park spacewise otherwise."

Alternative fire options: Some parks prohibit wood fires. A Columbia Sun visitor shared their solution: "No firepits but we knew that before going - brought a propane fire pit with us."
