Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park Campground

      Kids kids and more kids

Another huge Oregon state park campground. We were in loop H, which is the farthest loop from the entrance. These sites were closer together than the previous state park campground were we stayed, but our site was still fairly private with shrubs on one side and trees on the other. We arrived about 10 minutes after the 4pm check-in time, which was a first for us, and there was a short line to register. People also had to wait for us to back into our spot, but nobody was rude or anything. As this park is inside the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area, it was a point of entry for people to take their ORVs out and run around on the dunes. I was a bit worried that the sounds of motors revving and racing about wasn't going to stop, but it did. The last noise I heard was probably around 9pm. This park is very family oriented and kid friendly. We took our toddler to the playground, which she loved, but there were a lot of bigger kids there who were not being supervised so it was a little bit hectic. We finally had to leave to avoid our child getting bowled over by some elementary age boys who were not respecting or paying attention to other people's space. There was another family with a little guy too who left the playground shortly before us. I realize that the campground/state park can't control what ages of kids play at this playground and all kids are welcome to play there. Just be aware if you have toddler age littles, there is no separate area for smaller kids and not everyone supervises their children. This was a very nice campground and if you are a person who has ORVs, this would definitely be a great destination.

Exploring History and Nature: A Serene Retreat at Musick Guard Station, Ore

My visit to Musick Guard Station in southwestern Oregon was a truly memorable experience. Nestled in the remote Umpqua National Forest, this historic site offers a fascinating glimpse into Oregon's mining past. Built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the guard station and its outbuildings stand as a testament to early fire protection efforts in the Bohemia Mining district.

Situated atop a forested ridge between Fairview Peak and Grouse Mountain, the location provides breathtaking views and ample opportunities for hiking. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the trails around the station, immersing myself in the serene beauty of the surrounding wilderness. What made my stay even more enjoyable was the ability to listen to music offline, thanks to Spotify MOD

In such a remote area with limited internet access, having offline access to my favorite songs enhanced my hiking experience. It allowed me to relax and unwind amidst nature while enjoying my preferred music tracks. The Musick Guard Station itself offers a unique lodging experience, steeped in history and surrounded by tranquility. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it serves not only as a cozy retreat but also as a gateway to outdoor adventures.

Whether you're interested in history, hiking, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, Musick Guard Station in the Umpqua National Forest is an ideal destination. I highly recommend visiting Musick Guard Station for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and history while enjoying modern comforts like offline music streaming with Spotify MOD. It's a place where past and present converge, offering a truly unforgettable retreat in Oregon's wilderness.

      Tight and little privacy

We stayed here because no state parks were available in the surrounding area. It was our first time at a KOA, and usually we do not stay at RV parks. The people at checkin were super nice and welcoming. The sites are tight, although perhaps if you pay a premium you can get a water-facing or larger site. The restrooms were a bigger disappointment to me. The only bthrooms are 6 combo shower/toilet stalls for the entire campground. If people are showering there are no toilets available. Also, the bathrooms, while appearing somewhat clean are dated. The white shower curtains and one piece fiberglass shower surrounds were not as nice as some Oregon State Parks we stayed in. The campground was quiet with a very narrow trail down to a beach area on the Alsea river. Our neighbor's picnic table was about 4 feet from the side of our Class B. It was OK, and if you don't mind RV parks, it may be a good stop-over place (which is what we did). We won't choose this place again and will definitely think twice about booking another KOA (even though we bought a package to save 10%). For $83 not worth it in our book.

Clean showers, private, lots of trees, clean site, hiking, swimmable water (3 seconds was freezing but easily adjusted), inner tubing, agate hunting in the river, 9 miles away from Safeway. If you have Verizon, you will likely have WiFi Connect. AT&T had poor connection. Super beautiful site.

Amazing group camp across the road from Fall Creek

Wonderful group camp that can sleep all your friends and relatives!  Fun little bunk houses for the kids and a big covered area for cooking and hanging out.  Big field for tents, frisbee, drum circles, etc.  There is a great swimming hole right across the street and a good jumping platform just up the road at the next pullout.  The hike from the campground up to the butte is great too.

Nice Campsites But Noisy And Bathrooms Are Gross

This last camping trip was my first to Honeyman.  The campsites are pretty nice.  Large enough, and most have at least some privacy by virtue of trees and bushes .  There's a walking trail that goes to some dunes.

On the downside it was pretty noisy there.  One night I had a lot of trouble sleeping between the freeway noise and noise from huge campers, it wasn't a great situation.  Also, the bathrooms were not well maintained.  Both sinks were clogged and there was no soap.  The showers were a welcome amenity, but they too were poorly maintained.

I would consider coming back someday, just for something different, but prefer other places, like Beverly.

      Fun With Family

Stayed in H Loop with our RV while other family was close by in G Loop. Second year coming for the big family trip. Sites are roomy and clean. Bathrooms were adequate but the showers are only push button and can’t be adjusted. Garbage dump is pretty far from our site but not a big deal. Lots of kids playing and having fun everywhere.

      Horrible managemet

They say there's long term permanent spots. Yet they will move you from spot to spot tell you one thing then it be another. Don't trust them with your background regardless of what it is, it will be left out and your privacy will be violated and everyone in their park will know. Personally happened to me. And if you have a problem or an issue with something the management will ignore your phone calls purposely to not have to deal with whatever it is your calling about. I know this for I personally have watched it done by management. The management will yell at each other in front of customers of the park. And they are hardly ever in the office to be there if their needed. There showers and bathrooms are hardly clean with multiple people complaining about them they keep the bathrooms even during winter at 68°. There's black mold in the showers. The owners wouldn't allow the bathrooms to be fixed properly just painted. They are running to many washers and dryers in there bathroom the wiring ain't right and it keeps blowing fuse, the driers breaking down or the washers don't cycle through all the way and don't wash your clothes or they flood. Not only that but you won't get your mail there they love sending it back. No matter what it is if you end up having a problem with management. We had checks sent back, legal mail. Do Not Trust Shelly Allen the management

      Quick Stop Over

We used Honeyman as a one night stop heading to California to get some winter sunshine. We were very familiar with the park and it is an easy drive from our home in the Seattle area. Where on our previous trip we had a site with a small river running through it in April, this site was beautiful and private, close enough but not too close to the restrooms and showers. The showers were wonderful - individual units. I would definitely book this site again if we return sometime.

The campground is nice, but everyone is crammed in tightly together, very loud. If you like camping with lots of people this may be the place for you.

No beach access but does have a small lake next to a Dune. Was very crowded since it was small and lots of folks use it.

Nice for a one night stop

Yes, you can walk to the beach. A "nature trail" leads down to Alsea Bay. We had the beach to ourselves the night we stayed. You are almost beneath the Hwy 101 bridge that crosses the bay. Nice clean beach with rocks and driftwood.

The campground itself is tidy with a nice office/gift shop and helpful, friendly staff. Pricey though. We don't go to a KOA for privacy. The sites are packed together like at most KOAs. We go for the facilities - clean showers and maybe use the laundromat. Some sites are bigger with chairs and fire pits. We had a smaller one with full hook ups and a picnic table.

      A family favorite

I love coming here, our campsite was close to others but there are so many options for different campgrounds, view the pictures of the site before booking. After experiencing really disrespectful fellow campers in bigger campsites, after quiet hour we had a neighbor try to hide their generator up in the woods above our campsite, I was happily surprised to call the help desk and ask if they could come address this, and they did! The ranger was an angel, he politely told them to turn it off despite them being completely drunk and disrespectful. He then checked back 3-4 times to make sure they followed the rules. Our night would’ve been ruined if it wasn’t for him. For fire safety as well… it wasn’t okay to run a generator deep in the woods. They handled it very well. Thank you!

    • Plan for downtime: Bring games and activities for quiet times. A family at Alsea Falls Recreation Site enjoyed "lazy shallow rivers and beautiful waterfalls," which can be great for relaxing.

    Tips from RVers:

    • Check site sizes: Make sure your RV fits the site. A reviewer at Albany-Corvallis KOA noted, "We had to unhitch and park at an angle to fit," so be mindful of space.
    • Wi-Fi issues: Be prepared for spotty internet. A camper at Deerwood RV Park mentioned, "Wi-Fi shows but no Wi-Fi," which can be frustrating if you need to stay connected.
    • Dump station availability: Check if the campground has a dump station. A visitor at Baker Bay Campgrounds & Marina mentioned, "You are allowed to dump at the facility up the road for no cost," which is handy for RVers.
