Best Glamping near Lake Texoma

Our big group has gone to Eisenhower twice. The park is on Lake Texoma. We went to kayak and camp. They have good hiking trails, great campsites, and lots to do.

Loved our stay here in the tent section. Trees provided much needed shade, yet enough for solar to stay charged. Restrooms were close, showers were a little bit of a walk. Each tent site has a table and fire pit. Lovely views of lake Texoma. Great hiking and rock climbing opportunities. The marina store is a short walk away and you can rent kayaks and canoes!

We go all the time for day trips for picnicking, boat rentals and also for camping. It's less than an hour from my home. The trails are great and the Rangers are friendly and share a lot of knowledge. Cool beach with caves. New food trailer with great food. Great fishing on beautiful Lake Texoma. Bathrooms are always clean. Fellow campers are very friendly. We love Eisenhower state park.

Nestled along the banks of Lake Texoma. I've stayed in the screened shelters and love this state park. There is not much of a beach area, and what there is, it's hard to get to, having to go down many steps. You are very likely to see deer in your visit. Very quiet in the daily picnic area. Facilities are very well kept and the restrooms are clean. Good place to hammock in the fall.

We loved the proximity to north Dallas. It makes for a nice getaway weekend. We enjoyed exploring the different areas of the park. We noticed most of the trailer/tent sites are almost in pairs. So two sites, have a common grassy area. Makes this park great for camping with friends or for making new friends, as we did! The store are the marina was a great break for ice cream on a hot day. Our friends have a boat on Lake Texoma and their home was only a 15 minute drive from the park.

I didn't like it because there isn't campsites near waters edge. #179 is the only campsite where you get a good view of the lake. But it is high on the cliff and you can't get down to the water. The only place to get down is at the swimming area which has a very long stair path. It wears you out. The cliff formations and little caves are kinda cool. But it cost too much to camp there because you have to pay an entrance fee and camping fee. Don't bring your boat and expect to be able to bring your near where your camping. You have to go in and out of the marina. They don't give out of state Vets or disabled a discount. Whereas if you drive 4 miles across the dam on Oklahoma side of Lake Texoma the campsites are better. You can camp on the lake shore and don't have to pay an entrance fee per person if your camping. I'll never go there again.

Lake Texoma State Park has a few different campgrounds. We stayed at Catfish Bay for a quick little weekend getaway. 

The campground was nice, quiet, and clean. There were a lot of families and about 50/50 RVs and tents, although most of the tents were in a separate area further down the peninsula.

The RV section has both full hookups and water/electric hookups. The prettiest sites are the ones without sewer, and the next time we go for just a weekend we'll pick one of those. Most of the RV sites have nice, level concrete pads (except the one we choose ... spot 11 ... crushed granite). The full hookup sites are packed in like a row of dominoes but there's plenty of room for awnings and slide-outs.

The park has a marina where you can get ice, beverages, chips, etc. You can also rent boats and tubes for the day.

All-in-all it was a nice weekend and we will probably go back.

We stayed in Ben’s Campground in Lake Texoma State Park June 25-28 2020 and were so underwhelmed by all that went on that I can promise we will never stay here or this state park ever again. First of all we were met first thing by the camp hosts checking to see who we were and if we had paid. Then they saw a tent on our site and wanted to know how we were paying for that. First, I want to say I have never, ever been charged to have a tent with us on our RV site. These people acted like we were trying to steal something. I was completely pissed especially how crappy the facilities were taken care of in this park. Then the whole campground was over crowded with some family reunion going on with live music fireworks and general pandemonium going on the whole time we were here. It was fairly quite during the day while it was sweltering heat but after it got dark no consideration for anybody else until after 11:00 pm. Camp hosts were nowhere to be found after they made sure they got your money....they sure weren’t anywhere around to get the music turned off by quite hour. It was terrible for my family that was looking forward to a quite weekend. It was jam packed here like a mini rock festival. How disappointing to drive about four hours to get here.

I decided to visit Eisenhower State Park during the last part of November, just before Thanksgiving when the leaves were putting on their final showcase of the season and casting their amber and red tones everywhere. It was absolutely breathtaking to pull into the park and start to see this area unfold around me.

Eisenhower is named for our former president, Dwight D Eisenhower, who was born in nearby Denison, Texas. Opened in 1958 to tourists as a Texas State Park, the area is divided amongst lake activities and wildlife preservation. In more recent years they have added ATV trails to accompany the bike and walking trails, the swimming beach and the outdoor amphitheater and pavilion.

Day use here is only $5 or for those camping you can easily find a perfect fit for your needs between $12 and $25. I noticed depending on the loop of camp you are enjoying amenities do vary as to site sizes. All sites except primitive and a single specialty reservation lot were equipped pretty standardly with a metal picnic table and fire ring with grill. The biggest differences were in that some had electricity and water while others had neither. (You can book your campsite online by clicking HERE )

I really enjoyed the spacing of the campsites, though the area I was visiting for the day had neighbors the spacing managed to mask any noise that might come from their camp. The tree coverage in the area was amazing and shady, I can only imagine this to be a necessary feature during the hot Texas summers.

Since I was only able to enjoy the park for a day, after enjoying one of the campsites for a lunch, I took to the hiking trails and explored the many areas there are to check out. I was most excited about the swimming beach, it reminded me of the beaches I had seen in Nevada nestled along the Colorado River in groves of mountainous rocky mountains. It felt secluded and while the beach area itself was a mix of rocks and sand, it could be a great retreat on a warm day for some fun with the family. The steps down to the beach captured my attention, I later noticed the same steps repeated by the marina and also by the amphitheater. They were unlike poured concrete and made for a more organic feel to the landscape. Created by bags of concrete hardened then used as pavers the surface provided a perfect step that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

A few things to remember about Eisenhower:

In this area throughout camp and other parts of the property you might see bats, armadillos, beavers, coyotes, deer, opossums, rabbits, bobcats, raccoons, foxes, squirrels and roadrunners. In addition, during warm months you can see a variety of snakes hiding on rocky surfaces so always be aware of your surroundings and remember to keep your food items secured inside your vehicle.

• The Lake is a BIG draw. This is one of the more popular stops along the massive Lake Texoma. Overall I would give the State Park a 4 of 5 stars. I feel as though the park is large enough to accommodate large groups, essential during the busy lake season including holidays such as the 4th of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day. With the spacing it provides, not only can it accommodate crowds but it can make for a still enjoyable experience when visiting on these busy seasons.

Activities vary for those seeking non-lake related things to do, this is of great interest to me as a traveler who does not often hit the lake on one of my adventures. I like that there is an option for someone like myself to be able to if I choose however it isn’t the sole focus of the site.

We stayed here in October at an RV site right on the water. It didn’t have a sewer hookup, which was kind of disappointing but we made it work. We took a nice hike and took the boat out for the day. Bathrooms could use an update but that’s par for the course in Oklahoma.

Got a great spot right on the water for our weekend camping trip. Plenty of space at our camp site for two full size tents. Great fishing, we caught 3 catfish and and 2 crappie. Water was much clearer than other lakes I have been to in Oklahoma. We decided to forgo a power hookup for a better view of the lake and ended up spending $14/per night, which I’m glad we did. They also have site with full water and power hookup. Turner falls is just down the road, where you can enjoy the view of some amazingly formed natural waterfalls, and if you’re up to it they allow sliding and swimming in the waterfalls. Some great spots for hiking are available in all levels of expertise as well. This place is a great stop if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy the Oklahoma outdoors.

I’ve been at this campsite a few times and I can honestly say that it’s one of the best in Oklahoma! My husband and I stayed in one of the trailer/RV sites during our most recent visit. The area was clean, spacious, and very close the the restrooms and the lake. We will definitely be back!

This is one of our favorite tent and trailer camping locations in Oklahoma. It is quiet with all the hookups you need plus restrooms and showers within in a close walk on Loop C where reservations are required. Great sunset views over the Lake of the Arbuckles, great hiking in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, and close shopping in Sulphur.

While traveling through Oklahoma, we wanted to find a good, clean campsite and after reading nightmarish reviews of lake Thunderbird, we decided to go here instead. And boy am I glad we did. The bathrooms were large, clean, and very well maintained. They even have a nice shower. It’s quiet, heavily wooded, private enough from other campsites, and felt very safe. We slept great! Bonus, they’re are fireflies everywhere!

This is my favorite campground in the state of Oklahoma. The sites are nice size and some of them back up to the water. Plenty of room to spread out. Bath house is super clean. Lake of the Arbuckles is beautiful for water recreational activities. Some in our group kayaked. I'll be trying that the next time I go. Lots of shoreline to walk, if you're so inclined. Camp host was helpful and on top of things. For a busy campground (it was full when we went) the noise level wasn't bad. No issues with unruly campers. Can't wait to go visit again.

Can’t beat this site for $29/night. The sites where we were at are a bit close together. It definitely would have been better to be further on the peninsula or at Cedar Cove or Elephant Rock But we were just happy there was a last-minute cancellation on their website allowing us to be here otherwise it was all booked up for the weekend (I just kept refreshing the booking page).

Bathrooms good. Access the water was close. Lake Murray is one of the more clear lakes in Oklahoma.

The golf course, which was beautiful & close, has super twilight hours (after 6pm) which made it very affordable $16pp w/cart.

Great visit. Will be back!

We stayed in Loop C, site 48. Had to book about a month in advance, and didn’t have but 3 spots to pick from. Camp site was clean, and although far from the C comfort station, it was a short walk to the D comfort station.

Site had a picnic table, fire pit and lantern hook, with a nice flat area for any tent camping. We were in a teardrop, so the 2 parking spots made it really easy to back the teardrop in and park next to it. Campsites are pretty close together, so you can definitely hear your neighbors, but the trees do provide lots of screening. Easy walk to the lakeshore for some shoreline fishing, and campground itself is a quick 10-minute drive from town and the main park area.

Definitely a beautiful area of Oklahoma, and an easy campground to stay at. Would recommend to anyone.

I spent a very relaxing week at The Point Upper Campground at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. Because my reservation was for seven days, I didn't have a very good choice of sites, but mine was clean, level and had good utilities.  The dump station was easily accessible. Only one complaint is that the wash out hose did not have a threaded hoses connection to attach to my tank flush on my trailer. No big deal, but it would have helped. The Park Service personnel kept the area clean and mowed and had a very good presence in the campground. I checked in on a Sunday and was pretty much alone except for one other site near me until Friday evening when the place filled up QUICK. I'm glad that I checked out the next morning because it was really busy with traffic, kids in the road having fun, and lots of background noise. The Main area of the Rec Area is right off of the main thoroughfare in Sulphur OK where there is a nature center, trails, waterfalls and great swimming holes on the creeks. The Bison herd was in the East pasture and was easily accessible from the Veterans Trail. The herd is small now, but they were expecting some "red dogs" and mamas in the next few days when I was there. Glad to have a new bison herd in Oklahoma. 

The Point Campground is close (5 miles) to fuel, groceries, beer, ice and of course a Wal-Mart. I would recommend this campground. There are several others in CNRA too, and the whole experience is worth the cost of the campsite. Be sure to visit the Nature Center Area, it is located near the waterfalls and creeks. A good side trip, along with the Bison Herd nearby.

We've wanted to check out Lake Murray since visiting there years ago. Didn't really think we'd be able to find a spot for Memorial Day Weekend, but apparently someone cancelled and one opened up a few days earlier. We stayed at Buzzads Roost without knowing anything about it and we we weren't disappointed. We didn't get a waterfront site but it was still a nice stay. The campgrounds were clean and quiet. It appeared that all the RV sites were level concrete pads with picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. Our was nice and wide. We don't have slideouts but they wouldn't have been a problem.

We were able to get out and kayak twice. On Saturday the boat ramp for the campgrounds was crazy busy so we drove up the road to Tipps Point and launched from there. They have a nice beach area along with some camprounds there as well. On Sunday we got up with the sun and beat everyone else to the boat launch area. If you're in the tent camping area there are plenty of places to launch a kayak but if you're driving down and don't want to walk throught people's campsites there is a small area on the left side of the boat ramp that is a easy place to launch and land a kayak. Parking can be tough at the ramp area. There's not a lot of spaces and many of them were taken by folks who have boats at the marina.

The trip over to Tucker Tower is quick and there are coves on both sides with glassy water. The tower has a dock if you want to take the tour (we were there before they opened, so no tour for us). Oklahoma is often known for its red/brown lakes, but Lake Murray is an exception. Green/blue waters that were clear enough to see the tip of my paddle when stuck straight down 4-5 feet. 

The water and surroundings were beautiful and even for a busy holiday weekend it didn't feel too busy or crowded. Lake Murray is definitely on our return list.
