Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

    Bad experience

Stayed here on Saturday night of July 4th weekend. Arrived after hours without a reservation. No information on how to self register or which campsites were available even though some sites are first come first served. Found an open site, set up and went to bed. There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn’t mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party. At 12:30am we moved campsites because we couldn’t sleep. We saw sheriff patrolling the campground - don’t know why they didn’t quiet the offenders.

The campground is large with many sites so the probability of inconsiderate people is higher. I won’t be returning.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

    1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

    2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

    3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

    4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

"Beautiful scenery, very large park, fishing, boat rentals, man made beach, loooong floating boardwalk, lots of trails, unique sites and tons of history," writes Daniel U., highlighting the variety of activities.

What campers like

Private, wooded sites: West Branch State Park Campground offers secluded camping spots under tree cover. "West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days," shares Alisa G.

Family-friendly activities: Woodside Lake Park provides organized recreational options for children and families. "We stay here a couple of times per year and every time it's a blast. The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," James S. observes about the campground environment.

Lake access and views: Multiple campgrounds feature water access, particularly valued by reviewers. "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site. Beach is right next door too! Great trails, clean facilities, no complaints," writes Rino S. about their West Branch experience.

Clean restroom facilities: Campers consistently mention bathroom cleanliness as a highlight. "The bathrooms were clean, separate showers verizon works well here," notes Joe I. about West Branch State Park, where individual shower stalls provide privacy for campers.

What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Many campgrounds have uneven terrain that requires preparation. "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches," warns Andrea F. about their West Branch experience.

Water quality differs by location: Some parks have challenging water systems. "I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything," cautions Jerry L. about Woodside Lake Park's water supply in certain areas.

Reservation timing matters: Popular weekends fill quickly at all campgrounds. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises Alisa G. regarding West Branch State Park's reservation system.

Weather preparedness essential: Countryside Campground and other locations experience significant seasonal variations. "Due to cooler temps pool was closed. The small putt putt course was still open for kids to play," notes Joe F. about their fall experience, showing how amenities change seasonally.

Tips for camping with families

Look for themed weekends: Family-oriented campgrounds often schedule special activities. "Overall Super Clean! Great activities for all ages with proper Covid19 precautions. The owners were super friendly and true cares about their campers and safety," reports Heather C. about Country Acres Campground.

Consider tent site locations: Some campgrounds have designated family-friendly areas. "We tent camped here. The sites are pretty far apart and you feel secluded but, at the same time, the bathrooms are close by. There is a lot of hiking and things to do around the area and even a playground for the kiddos," recommends Jenny K. about Punderson State Park.

Check recreation schedules: Many campgrounds offer supervised activities. "An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend," mentions Alisa G. about the regular programming at West Branch State Park.

Verify swimming options: Water features vary significantly between properties. "The campground is large with a water park that has Ziplining and other great activities for the family," writes Linda R. about Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, noting its extensive water recreation.

Tips from RVers

Bring leveling equipment: Uneven sites are common throughout the area. "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground," cautions Coy about Punderson State Park.

Check hookup specifications: Electrical service varies widely between campgrounds. "We were in a 29'TT, 3 kids, 2 dogs. Well kept smaller campground. Kids trick or treated and all campers were very friendly. Due to cooler temps pool was closed," reports Joe F. about Countryside Campground, noting the accommodations for their larger setup.

Consider proximity to attractions: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provides convenient access to regional points of interest. "We were in the area for medical visits in Cleveland. This spot was convenient and a great location to do a little sightseeing. Sites were gravel and level. We enjoyed full hookups," notes Sharon J. about the campground's practical location for travelers.

Verify seasonal availability: Operating dates differ significantly among area campgrounds offering yurt camping near Stow. "We chose this campground based on its proximity to Brandywine Falls, Cuyahoga falls and Chagrin falls. Very clean and well maintained," shares Heidi C. about Streetsboro KOA's location advantages.
