Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

    Bad experience

Stayed here on Saturday night of July 4th weekend. Arrived after hours without a reservation. No information on how to self register or which campsites were available even though some sites are first come first served. Found an open site, set up and went to bed. There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn’t mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party. At 12:30am we moved campsites because we couldn’t sleep. We saw sheriff patrolling the campground - don’t know why they didn’t quiet the offenders.

The campground is large with many sites so the probability of inconsiderate people is higher. I won’t be returning.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

    1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

    2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

    3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

    4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

Guide to Solon

Punderson State Park Campground sits on glacially formed kettle lakes in northeast Ohio, with a unique mix of wooded and lakefront camping options. The park features distinctive "hill sites" requiring campers to hike 20-100 feet up or down to reach secluded wooded areas. Winter camping options exist at several locations near Solon, offering year-round access to the region's diverse terrain and wildlife.

What to do

Disc golf adventures: Punderson State Park Campground has an on-site disc golf course that attracts enthusiasts of all skill levels. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," notes Rebecca G., highlighting the diverse recreation options available within walking distance of most campsites.

Archery practice: The dedicated archery range at Punderson State Park provides a structured environment for target practice. One visitor mentioned, "Large beautiful park with lots of amenities. Boat ramp, disc golf, trails, kayak rentals, archery range and more," emphasizing the comprehensive recreation facilities available on-site.

Fishing expeditions: Kool Lakes Family RV Park offers excellent fishing opportunities with waterfront sites. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs," reports one family, demonstrating the diverse aquatic activities available.

What campers like

Private beaches: Mill Creek Camping offers select lakefront sites with personal beach access. "We book a lakefront site and it is just gorgeous! We have our own private little beach which our dog loves," shares Sarah K., highlighting the special waterfront camping experience.

Clean facilities: Despite being an older facility, American Wilderness Campground maintains high cleanliness standards. "Also the park has older shower and bathrooms however there always clean and well taken care of every few hours staff cleaning!" reports Andrew V., noting the regular maintenance that enhances the camping experience.

Secluded tent sites: Countryside Campground features spacious tent sites set apart from the RV section. "The 9 tent sites are very large and spacious. It is mostly an established RV Park," says Tommy K., pointing out the distinction that gives tent campers more room to spread out.

What you should know

Site levelness varies: Many campgrounds near Solon feature uneven terrain. At West Branch State Park Campground, "our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches," according to Andrea F., who recommends bringing extra leveling equipment.

Reservation timing: Popular sites book quickly, especially waterfront locations. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises Alisa G. about West Branch, emphasizing the importance of advance planning.

Water quality issues: Some campgrounds use well water with varying mineral content. At Woodside Lake Park, one camper noted "iron & sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park," recommending travelers verify water sources before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Countryside Campground offers numerous structured activities for children. "Kids trick or treated and all campers were very friendly. Due to cooler temps pool was closed. The small putt putt course was still open for kids to play. Playground was a hit for our 8yr and under kids," reports Joe F., highlighting seasonal programming.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Several campsites offer close encounters with local fauna. At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, "Every night we were visited by raccoons, they stole our trash on the first night but the other nights we kept everything out of their reach," shares Traci F., suggesting secure food storage practices.

Hammock-friendly sites: Punderson State Park features numerous trees suitable for hammock camping. "Most sites have enough trees that hammock camping would not be an issue especially the sites that you park and go back from road about 20 ft with good privacy," notes Joe I., providing insight for alternative sleeping arrangements.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variability: Electric service varies significantly between campgrounds and even within the same park. At Punderson State Park, "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close to level," warns Coy, suggesting checking specific site amenities before booking.

Pull-through accessibility: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA offers spacious pull-through sites for larger rigs. "We spent a long weekend in a pull thru site. The bathrooms were clean, the showers were nice and the pool was well kept. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition. The pull thru sites were a tad small but nice and long," reports one RVer.

Site width considerations: Several campgrounds near Solon offer wider-than-average sites, important for RVs with slides or awnings. "It's always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sites were wide," notes Jennifer H., highlighting the practical spacing at Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA.
