    Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins

    Family Friendly

Great campground with lots to do! RV sites are a little small and close together, but comes with a picnic table and fire pit. There are back in and pull through RV spots - along with nice shady spots for rent camping. Cabins are also available. Great spot to camp if interested in tubing/canoeing/kayaking down Mohican river. When you arrive everyone in the vehicle checks in, and then someone on a golf cart takes you to your spot. Campground has an indoor pool and hot tub. Also has pond with paddle boards and paddle boats that need to be reserved at additional cost. Quite a few playgrounds available and mountain bike trails. Small creek runs along the campground. All guests are given a wrist band that gives you a discount at the Trails End restaurant and at Mohican Adventures across the street.

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Winter Time But No Snow

We stayed on a full hook up site (turned off for the season) that had a nice concrete level pad. There was also a nice side pad that kept our chairs clean. A little further back in the campground to be close to the shower house that was open. Then found out that comfort station next to us was open - nice! Also close the water which was full and rushing all weekend.

The camp store was open on the weekend and the staff was nice to chat with. They had wood, but it was slab cut which doesn’t burn very well. We decided against it. Lots of snacks and other items still available.

Some sites were really close to the water, almost too close as the water flooded a few spots. The campground is nice to walk if you like to get in a little workout. They also have small camper cabins and them much bigger cabins which a few are pet friendly.

We went on a hike by the covered bridge to one of the waterfalls. Lots of trials to choose from.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Unexpected Treat in Central Ohio

As part of a nearly 200-mile bikepacking ride, this was our last stop! We spent 2 nights in their "Class B" area down in the Mohican River Valley and loved it.

The oddly named “Class A” camping area offers everything from full-hook up camping slots for campers large and small, as well as just electric sites and 10 “walk-in” primitive sites, and cabins -- all of which are reservable. This area has all the bells and whistles of a modern campground with an environmental learning center, a nice outdoor pool, clean showers and bathrooms, an extensive playground and hiking and mountain biking trails right out the front door.

The “Class B” area offers 25 primitive sites on a first-come, first-served basis. It is almost 6 miles by road from the “A” services, but only a 2-mile flatish hike along the river trail. At these sites, there are only pit toilets and a water pump. Each site has a picnic table and a small fire ring. There is also a large group camping area just a few miles away from the primitive “Class B” area.

Tubing and canoeing are available within the park, but there are also several canoe outfitters in the area which provide rental / pick up services. The sheer number of these businesses makes me think that summer time can be crowded!!

Beautiful shaded trails meander all throughout the park and they boast some of the most challenging mountain biking in the mid-west, so read your trail maps. Hiking, equestrian and winter snowmobile trails also offer some great opportunities to get out and stretch your legs throughout the year. There is also a safe and convenient, bike lane / bike path into nearby Loudonville, which has a small grocery story and the usual fast-food restaurants.

Note: The only reason why this park didn't get a 5 star was due to their customer service. It was absolutely lousy, confusing, and the young folks working behind the counter acted as if they didn't want to be there and/or hadn't been trained. We almost left, but since we had cycled 42 miles to get there that day, we chose to stay and enjoyed our time in their Class B sites.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Malabar Farm State Park Campground

    Rustic

I found Malabar Farm in Lucas, OH on my way home from Mom’s house. Never heard of it before and I have been this way for over 20 years now. Louis Bromfield was a conservationist and among many other things (including winning a Pulitzer) he was in the forefront of organic and self-sustaining gardening. This place is amazing! ( and would be an excellent home schoolers camping trip!) Not your typical going hiking kinda campground (there are trails but they are not “major”) you come here to step away from city life and tour a working farm. Ohio countryside at its best. Primitive camping with a gravel parking pad and water, fire ring, picnic table and hitching post. No reservations, this is a first come campground. There’s also a small rentable cabin open year round. Definitely worth a visit and very family oriented events. ( your teenager will roll their eyes at you but probably secretly enjoy the visit)

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Great park

This is a great state park campground. We stayed at an electric site. The spots are decent sized, plenty of restrooms, pool, playground and camp store that sells ice cream! Tubing down the creek next to the campground was super cool too. Cabins looked very nice and secluded. We hiked to the swinging bridge which was newly dedicated (May 2021).

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Vacation island campground

To reach Kelley's Island, you have to take the only ferry. Our round trip roundtrip fare for 3 adults and a vehicle was a around $100. It's around 25 mins across to the island. The island has about 500 full time residents. The road that runs up the center of the island, Division Street, starts a little west of the ferry stop and ends at the State Park. There are some small shops, restaurants, miniature golf, ice cream and fudge shops. There are golf cart rentals and lots of bikers and walkers on the island. You could walk the

The state park was beautiful. Filled with boaters, families and RVers. The bathrooms were clean, the park sold firewood and ice. There was an ice cream shop across from the entrance. Our tent spot was level. Quiet hours started at 11 pm. Unfortunately, people ignored it. I kept hoping the camp host would walk around and say something. Someone's car alarm went off at 5 am and the dogs got up and our day started. I would recommend watching the sunrise from the park benches at the water's edge. It was beautiful.

There were places to put your kayaks in as well as a boat launch by the park. People were fishing off the jetting that protects the swimming area.

It will get chilly at night, the sites on the edge of the water were windier. And bring your bug spray. Beautiful island, fun brewery on the island, sites are crowded. I would easily head back.

Guide to Oberlin

Cabin rentals near Oberlin, Ohio provide convenient lodging options within a 20-mile radius of the college town. Rentals range from basic rustic units to fully-furnished accommodations with modern amenities. The region experiences four distinct seasons with warm, humid summers and cold winters, making spring and fall popular times for cabin stays.

What to do

Hiking trails: Findley State Park Campground in Wellington offers extensive wooded trails for nature exploration. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths!" notes Kimberly C. The park's paved roads also provide flat surfaces for biking and skating.

Fishing and boating: American Wilderness Campground in Grafton maintains stocked fishing ponds and beach areas. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," shares Jessica J. The campground also features beach views at sunset.

Disc golf course: Findley State Park includes a disc golf course among its recreational options. Jessica S. explains, "They have plenty of hiking trails, disc golf, a playground for the kids, a nature center and gift shop, archery and so much more!" The varied terrain creates challenging play for different skill levels.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Timber Ridge Campgrounds in Amherst receives positive feedback for its well-maintained grounds. "It's gorgeous with super large sites. Plenty of space. You're close to your neighbor but doesn't feel like it. Quiet but also great for families," according to Sarah A.

Swimming options: Kelleys Island State Park Campground provides both lake swimming and beach access. "The park has a beach and playground. You can also purchase wood. Yurts are available for rent," mentions Erin H. The island setting creates a unique camping experience with water views from many sites.

Family activities: East Harbor State Park Campground offers diverse recreational options. One visitor explained, "There are quite a few trails and a lake with a beach for swimming. It can get fairly crowded if you are here with a trailer that requires electrical hookups since there are only so many sites available with electric." The park also features a nature center with planned activities.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most cabin rentals require advance booking, especially during summer. At East Harbor State Park, Jeffrey L. advises, "Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Tent stake challenges: Some campgrounds have hard-packed ground making tent setup difficult. "Dirt in the campsites is packed super tight, it's hard to drive tent stakes. However, it's flat enough where it isn't really an issue," reports Evan D. about Findley State Park.

WiFi availability: Limited connectivity exists at most cabin locations. Kelleys Island State Park offers WiFi near the office building only, and as Mary S. notes, "Camp office now had WiFi in/near the office building." Cell service can be spotty, particularly at waterfront locations.

Tips for camping with families

Beach access: Sandusky-Bayshore KOA provides family-friendly amenities close to attractions. "Very kid friendly. Clean bathrooms. Full hookups available. My kids had a blast!" shares Angela C. The location serves as a convenient base for Cedar Point visits.

Kid-focused activities: Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park features extensive children's entertainment options. "Large campground with a nice mix of seasonal and overnighters. Clean common areas. Nice pool, camp store on site with a nice selection of camp gear. Snack bar with pizza, ice cream etc. Tons of planned activities for the kids," explains Kathryn P.

Wildlife viewing: Several cabin locations offer nature education opportunities. Crystal A. from Findley State Park reports, "The campground office was super nice and friendly in switching the sites to accommodate me. Site 118 had water 2 sites down, an outhouse 5 sites down and nice clean rest rooms just a short walk away maybe 9 sites down, playground and camp store/nature center isn't too far away."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: East Harbor State Park Campground offers varied RV sites. "The key is site selection at East Harbor...we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park. Section C was nice, though in hot sunny days there is very little shade to protect you. The other sections of the park have tall shade trees that work out great," advises Mark S.

Hookup availability: RV cabins near Oberlin vary in utility offerings. "About half the sites are for tent or dry camping. Half have electric and a few of those have full hookups," reports Kimberly C. about Findley State Park, noting the need to check specific site details when booking.

Camp store access: Most cabin and RV locations maintain on-site stores for basic supplies. Ro B. from Sunset Lake Campground shares, "The camp hosts were super friendly about helping get us arranged and everything we needed. Many long-term residents here and they seemed friendly and kept the place looking nice."
