Best RV Parks & Resorts near New Plymouth, OH

RV parks in the Hocking Hills region accommodate travelers with a variety of hookup options and site configurations. Hocking River RV Park in Logan provides electric hookups, sanitary dump, and thirty-amp service from April through October, with sites positioned along the riverfront. Lakeview RV Park in Lancaster features full hookup capability with water, electric, and sewer connections, suitable for larger motorhomes with big-rig friendly access. Hilltop Resorts and Campgrounds offers 130 sites with fifty-amp service, water hookups, and sewer connections across its property. Pull-through sites require careful navigation at several parks, particularly for larger RVs. "Stayed here 4 nights, pull through spots require a little bit of maneuvering with big rig (43' fifth wheel). There was some mud where camper wheels were situated in the spot (needs material)," noted one camper at Hocking River RV Park.

Site leveling presents challenges throughout the region's RV parks due to the hilly terrain. Several reviews mention needing leveling blocks, particularly at state park campgrounds where pads can be sloped in one or more directions. Most campgrounds maintain shower facilities and restrooms, though quality varies significantly between private and public parks. Cell service fluctuates dramatically across the area, with spotty reception in valleys and near rock formations. Campground selection becomes particularly important during fall foliage season when occupancy rates peak and advance reservations become essential. Propane service is limited, with only select locations offering refills. Pets are generally permitted at most RV parks, though some may have breed or size restrictions. Winter camping options narrow considerably, with Lake Hope State Park Campground among the few offering year-round access for RVs with thirty-amp service.

    Hocking River RV Park

Scenic, easy in/out and on the river

Stayed here 4 nights, pull through spots require a little bit of maneuvering with big rig (43’ fifth wheel). There was some mud where camper wheels were situated in the spot (needs material). Fire rings are not near RV but behind across the road on the river. Bath house is just ok - not great, not gross. Close proximity to lots of hiking but Hocking Hills itself has become so crowded… don’t come if you want to get away from people.

    Hocking Hills KOA Holiday

    Great first time KOA experience

We have never stayed at a KOA before and were very happy with this campground. The staff were friendly and professional, the sites were clean, and there were a wide variety of sites to choose from. From primitive tent sites tucked back in the woods to large RV sites with water/sewer/electric/cable hookups. We are first-time owners of a 29 ft Fifth Wheel and got a pull-through site. It offered little in the way of privacy, which was the only negative about the whole experience. Our site included a fire ring and a picnic table, along with all the hook ups. The night we arrived we were too tired to cook so ordered a pizza from the front office and they delivered it to our site. They also deliver wood directly to you. They escort you directly to your site so you don't get lost or go down a one-way road the wrong way. There was a nice little pool, but it wasn't open for the season yet. The shower houses were immaculate. The front office includes a little gift shop, ice cream, and pizza. This campground was also located close (within a few miles) to all the main hiking trails, and about 12 miles from Logan. The little road going up to the campground is VERY bumpy. It's not the campground road, it belongs to the Township, so its completely out of their ability to make improvements. This was only our second time out in our fifth wheel camper so it was a little scary, but we just drove slow and our truck handled it just fine. We will definitely be back to this wonderful campground as we love Hocking Hills.

    Hocking Hills State Park Campground

    Great Ohio State Park Campground

Amazing trails walkable right from the campground. Old mans cave, upper & lower falls. Bathroom was clean. Showers were ok. My site 108 was not deep, but was wide. Great for my 5X9 travel trailer, but probably not good for a big rig. Shaded & right near the shower house was a plus.

    Big Sycamore Family Campground

    Great small family campground

We enjoyed our 3 night stay here! Some sites are full hook up, some sites are electric and water, and some are primitive. The dump station is easily accessible if you need it. 5 acres with everything we could need. The owners were amazing. Very friendly and helpful! They had only owned the campground for 2 weeks and were in the process of making several improvements. The shower house and bathrooms were clean and adequate. There is a small playground for kids. It is pet friendly. There is a nice sized pool for summer (we camped in October so it was closed for the season). Located within a short drive (about 10 miles/15 minutes) from everything Hocking Hills has to offer. There is even a restaurant close by that will deliver to your campsite. Kroger and Walmart are within 5-7 minutes driving for supplies. The only downside is that it is close to a highway so at night you can hear the traffic. This didn’t bother us so much but might be a problem for some.

    Sun Valley Campground

Beautiful campground with sites for RVs and tents.

This campground has a lot to offer with electric and water hookups for RVs with back-in and pull through sites. They have a dump station as well as an onsite bathroom/shower house. The owners are very friendly. I highly recommend.

    Burr Oak Cove Campground

    Nice little campsite

Cool little campground. First come first served with no reservations accepted. The sites are clean with picnic tables and fire rings and can accommodate small RVs. There are a couple of vault style outhouses, dump stations and a couple of water stations as well. No electric or water hookups, though. Came on a Thursday and there were only two sites occupied so it was nice and quiet even though there is a bit of road noise from the nearby roads. There’s also an easy 1 mile trail down to Burr Cove proper. The sites are $15 ($10 in the off season when the water is turned off) and you pay at an honor box at the entrance once you pick your spot.

Guide to New Plymouth

Campgrounds near New Plymouth, Ohio offer rural retreat options within the Appalachian foothills, with elevations ranging from 700-1000 feet. The region experiences seasonal temperature swings with summer highs averaging 85°F and winter lows dropping to 20°F. Most campgrounds in this area close seasonally, though Lake Hope State Park Campground maintains year-round RV camping with limited winter services.

What to do

Kayaking and canoeing on the Hocking River: Visitors can enjoy water activities directly from their campsite at Riversedge Campground. "We chose rivers edge for our annual father son getaway and we were not disappointed. The tent sites are right next to the water and there is a beach and dock nearby also... If you decide to rent a kayak they will even drop you off upstream to start your trip," reports Ken P.

Hiking nearby trail systems: Hocking Hills State Park Campground offers direct access to numerous hiking trails. "Great hiking trails. Very busy on holiday weekends so I think it is best to go when that is not the case or even through the week," advises Renée C. The park connects to miles of trails featuring rock formations and waterfalls.

Family recreation activities: Hilltop Resorts and Campgrounds offers multiple recreation options beyond hiking. "There is a nice sized sand ground play set with swings and 2 slides, an air pillow (blob) putt putt, a trail to the lake, a dog run, poop pickup stations, an A/C'd game room and very pleasant staff," notes Mitchell C.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Some campgrounds offer more secluded options than others. At Lake Hope State Park Campground, "We stayed in the walk-in family campground, not the main campground. The sites are mostly far apart from one another and the area is fairly dense woods leaving you feeling a peaceful solitude," explains Kate W.

Direct river access: Many campers appreciate riverside camping options. "Our tent was right on the river and Kelli was the best host ever! On our last day she brought us warm cinnamon rolls and coffee. We enjoyed them by our fire as we watched the mist gently float over the water," shares Eric S. about Riversedge Campground.

Clean facilities: Several campgrounds maintain high standards for their bathroom facilities. "The bathroom/shower facility are private individual units and are the cleanest we have ever seen!" reports Tiffani C. about Hilltop Resorts and Campgrounds.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many RV sites in this region require additional equipment for proper setup. At Lake Hope State Park Campground, "Camp sites are very small and very unlevel, had to raise back of camper and put front about a 1/4" off ground to get close to level. Site around is sloped in all directions," warns Daniel.

Walk-in site distances: Some tent sites require significant hiking with gear. At Hocking Hills State Park, "Make sure to pay attention to 'walk-in' sites. It's more like 'hike a half mile with your gear' sites! All in all we had a blast and a good laugh about our trek with all our stuff!!" shares Amanda P.

Seasonal variations: Campground experiences change dramatically with seasons. "We had some issues with someone else using our spot when we arrived tried to call the park office to get a resolution with no result. had to use another open spot," reports Tanner G. about Hocking Hills State Park during a busy period.

Tips for camping with families

Choose campgrounds with recreational facilities: For families with children, select sites with activities. "Great campground outside of Columbus. Perfect for a quick weekend away that you don't want to spend a whole day driving. Plenty of things to do including: jump pad, mini golf, basketball, hiking, fishing and kayaking. Our 5 year old had a blast!" recommends Tiffani C.

Consider campground layout: Look for campsites with convenient bathroom access when camping with kids. "The campsites are so close together, which you think would at least mean the bathrooms were close, but no, they were a serious hike. Not good with kids," cautions Jenny K. at Hocking Hills State Park.

Look for educational programs: Some parks offer nature programs for children. At Ashland RV Park, "While an RV park, you can also tent camp with the amenities, making it really nice. Electrical hookups and water at your site, plus clean bathrooms and a shower house on the property," notes Jackie D., making it suitable for families who want tent camping with amenities.

Tips from RVers

Pull-through navigation: RV camping near New Plymouth, Ohio can present challenges for larger rigs. "Staff is very friendly and we got a nice pull through site for a quick stop over my way to upper Michigan. There's a really nice pond and has water activities if you stay longer. Easy in/out," mentions Bucky W. about Lakeview RV Park.

Site selection based on size: Larger RVs need to research site dimensions. "The RV sites were a bit narrow, but otherwise nice and shaded. We took a couple of the hikes down by the lake and it was great," reports Kevin F. about Lake Hope State Park Campground.

Seasonal road conditions: Winter RV camping requires preparation. "While the site we stayed in with the motorhome was fairly level, sites are mostly small and tight on hilly terrain. That said, I would still recommend this as a nice weekend getaway," advises Marshall P. about Lake Hope, one of the few year-round options for RV camping near New Plymouth, Ohio.
