Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

    Bad experience

Stayed here on Saturday night of July 4th weekend. Arrived after hours without a reservation. No information on how to self register or which campsites were available even though some sites are first come first served. Found an open site, set up and went to bed. There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn’t mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party. At 12:30am we moved campsites because we couldn’t sleep. We saw sheriff patrolling the campground - don’t know why they didn’t quiet the offenders.

The campground is large with many sites so the probability of inconsiderate people is higher. I won’t be returning.

    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Big, beautiful lake!

Great park! Sites are spacious and level. Very clean park. There are several full hook-up sites. Electric sites near the lake. We stayed at site #96. New Bathrooms are under construction. Campground is flat and great for bike riding. Nice playground for kids. Dog park nearby. Camp is near beach & marina. Also many shops and restaurants within a 10 minute drive. We will definitely be coming back to Mosquito Lake!

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

    1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

    2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

    3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

    4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Great State Park Campground

We just got back from our first trip to Mosquito Lake State Park Campground. All in all, it was a great experience.

We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others. There is some woods between this site and the sites on either side, but other sites are visible. The fire pits and picnic tables were staggered, so it created some distance to make it feel more private.

The campground as a whole, was very quiet. We stayed from Wednesday to Friday. The group next to us seemed a little rowdy when we first pulled in, but by 10:00 there was no noise anywhere near us.

Most sites seemed pretty level from side to side, but where we were, several had a slope from front to back. Away from the waterfront, most sites looked pretty level. The amount of space between sites varied from site to site. Some sites had woods on both sides, while others were pretty open. Some had nice large grassy areas, others were much smaller. Sites from 214-224 are in a cul de sac and are water front, but they were pretty close together with very little privacy between sites, if any. They are very close to the water though.

There are bathrooms and water scatter about, but from what I saw there was only 1 shower house.

Wal-mart and other shopping and restaurants were about 3 miles away. Park was easy to get to, only one turn for us off the highway. Lake was great for kayaking and paddleboarding. Very nice dog park in a different part of the park. There is a boat launch accessible from inside the campground.

Dump station has 2 lanes which was nice when checking out. Fresh water fill up was also located near the dump station.

Guide to New Franklin

Camping near New Franklin, Ohio offers diverse experiences in the eastern Ohio woodland terrain. The area sits at elevations ranging from 950-1,200 feet, creating varied landscapes for campers to explore. Winter camping options are available at select locations, with Evergreen Park RV Resort operating year-round with heated accommodations for cold-weather visitors.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Mill Creek Camping provides multiple fishing spots along Berlin Lake. "We had our own private little beach which our dog loves. Which is another plus, we have a Rottie mix and they allow her in," notes Sarah K., highlighting the pet-friendly shoreline access.

Trail connections: Explore the Buckeye Trail from Countryside Campground, which offers direct access to hiking paths. "A nice short walk takes you to Mogadore reservoir, no luck for us fishing from shore," shares Joe F., who appreciated the natural setting despite not catching fish.

Water activities: The waterpark at Clay's Resort Jellystone Park features multiple water-based activities. "The activities here are endless! Fishing, volleyball, basketball, kayaking, zip lining in water with swimming (15 break every 45 min), mini golf, bounce trampoline pad, cornhole, etc!" writes Chelsea M., emphasizing the variety available for all ages.

What campers like

Private sites: West Branch State Park Campground offers secluded camping spots with lakeside options. "Great site! Shades lots of space semi private area. Right off the water with area to tie boat for easy water access," says Katelyn P., describing the waterfront advantages.

Clean facilities: Cleanliness receives consistent praise across several campgrounds. "This campground is large with a water park that has Ziplining and other great activities for the family," writes Linda R. about Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, highlighting both amenities and maintenance standards.

Budget-friendly options: Some camping options provide good value. "Low cost for staying ($18 for a waterside, spacious site for up to 8 people, 2 tents at no additional costs)," shares Katie about Mill Creek Camping, noting the affordability for group camping.

What you should know

Site conditions: Watch for uneven terrain at some campgrounds. "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches," explains Andrea F. about her experience at West Branch State Park.

Reservation requirements: Most sites require advance booking, especially for premium locations. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises Alisa G. regarding West Branch State Park Campground.

Seasonal operations: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA operates from May 1 to October 15, while others have different schedules. "Only open in the summer," notes J M. about Mill Creek Camping.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated children's facilities. "The game room was small but the kids loved it," shares Traci F. about Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, adding that despite its size, it was a hit with younger campers.

Activity planning: Schedule around peak usage times for popular areas. "The lake was over crowded to the point that they ran out of life jackets, which are required to swim," warns Tim U. about Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, suggesting early arrival for water activities.

Entertainment options: Evergreen Park RV Resort provides indoor entertainment for all weather conditions. "The game room was nice as well as the indoor pool. The park is in Amish areas so there is plenty of shopping to do," writes Andrea F., highlighting both on-site and nearby attractions.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Choose sites based on your specific needs. "We stayed on site LV27. Great location, but not even close to level. Seemed to be the only site with this issue," notes Chuck E. about Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, indicating that site research is important.

Year-round options: For winter glamping near New Franklin, Ohio, consider Evergreen Park RV Resort. "We camped here the second weekend in December and had the park mostly to ourselves. There were only 3 other campers there. It was a great place to stay," shares Andrea F., describing the quieter off-season experience.

Site spacing: Consider how close neighboring sites are when booking. "The only negative for me was the campsites are very close to each other," mentions Doug K. about Evergreen Park RV Resort, noting the proximity factor that affects privacy.
